23 SEP - Reminder about the League Meeting on Monday 25 Sept - All clubs are reminded that it is the next League meeting on Monday 25 September in the John Street stand at Bramall Lane, starting at 7:30pm All clubs must be represented.

21 SEP - STEVE GEE MERIT CUP FINAL - Redmires pip Cobden to win the Steve Gee  Merit Cup Final - The League's Steve Gee Merit Cup Final between last season's CBC Premier Runners-up and Sunday Senior Cup semi finalists Redmires and last season's Division Two Runners-Up Cobden View took place at Stocksbridge Park Steels Look Local Stadium, and it was Redmires that came out on top of a real thriller 3-2 to lift the trophy for a second time.

Redmires started the quicker and John Pedder almost gave them the lead with a shot that struck the outside of the post. More good work by Pedder almost broke the deadlock and the pressure finally told when a cross from the right was slammed into the bottom corner by Redmires' skipper Ben Graney. Cobden eventually got a foothold in the game and one attack ended with shouts for a penalty for handball and soon after a dangerous cross evaded everyone in the box. Redmires ended the half strongly with Jake Gamban's shot saved by Josh Delaney in the Cobden goal and soon after Delaney had to make an even better save from Pedder's low drive.

Cobden looked a different side in the second half and were soon on level terms when they carved Redmires right side open and when the cross came in Tim Pitt was on hand to roll the ball home. Pitt thought he had added a second soon after, only to see it ruled out by the assistant referee's flag for offside. Delaney then saved to stop Redmires from re-taking the lead, but it was Spencer Bingley in the Redmires goal that next had to make an even better save to stop Aaron Ellis's deflected shot.

Josh Limbrick then shot just wide as Cobden continued to drive forward, but it was Redmires that got their noses back in front when Jake Gamban scrambled the ball home from a corner. They quickly doubled their advantage when Gamban's through ball found Tom Whiting and he slid the ball home. Cobden didn't give up though and only a brave piece of keeping by Bingley stopped Pitt from scoring a second, before Cobden's Ben Bell volleyed just wide.

They were rewarded soon after though when Pitt pounced on a mistake to advance and roll the ball past the onrushing Bingley. It then needed another terrific save by Bingley to stop Pitt from completing a hat-trick. Redmires were hanging on at this stage and only two more saves by Bingley stopped Cobden from equalising before referee Matt Tyers whistled for full time. It had been a terrific effort by both sides and a great advert for the league and both clubs.

The squads: Redmires: Spencer Bingley, Matt Hanson, Hamed Arezzo, Conal Jacklin, Dave Knaggs, Ben Graney (C), George Rudd, John Pedder, Andy Bath,Jake Gamban,Jake Schofield, Jake Sawyer, Dan Callow, Chris Cottyn, Tom Whiting, Danny Turner

Cobden View: Josh Delaney, Ben Mayne, Scott Needham, Andy Jacobowski, Joe Tayloe (C), Aaron Ellis, Josh Limbrick, Alex Butt, Ben Bell, Tim Pitt, Rich Higgins, Lee Mansell, Will Cutler, Mike McVay, Adam Beresford, George Wilson-Bland

17 SEP - twentytwo League Cup Round 2 draw - The draw for Round 2 of the League twentytwo Cup, made by Sheffield United's media team of Kevin Cookson (right) and Mark Woollas, saw holders Handsworth Old Crown pick up a home tie against the Division 1 Cobden View side they share their Hillsborough College pitch with. Last season's beaten finalists, Norton Oaks A, also have a home tie against early Division 1 leaders Woodhouse Village. There's just one all-CBC Premier tie, with Wickersley Youth enetertaining former holders Redmires, while Hallam FC look to have a tough task at league newcomers Royal Earl. The full draw is as follows : Oughtibridge WM v Forum,  Norton Oaks B v Chapeltown RBL,  Handsworth Old Crown v Cobden View,  Mosborough Whites v Southey Social,  Brinsworth Phoenix v Mosborough Reds,  Civil Sports A v Cotts FC,  Wickersley Youth v Redmires,  Royal Earl v Hallam FC,  Intake Old Boys v Shakey,  Boynton Sports v Woodseats Club,  Norton Sportsman v Killamarsh Juniors,  Colley v Penistone Church,  WB Pheasant v Ranch,  Norton Oaks A v Woodhouse Village,  Steelers v Stannington Village,  Crookes FC v Civil Sports B. All ties will be played on Sunday 15 Oct, with an 11am kick-off.

17 SEP - SUNDAY SENIOR CUP - Penistone win a thriller at Civil, while Redmires and Stannington both ease their way through - In the all CBC Premier tie, Penistone Church overcame Civil Sports A 3-2 at Green Lane. George Orrell gave Church the lead but Leon Howarth equalised to send the sides into the break level. Goals from Sam Scrivens and Tom Adams put the visitors 3-1 ahead and although Howarth scored his second of the morning with two minutes left, Civil couldn’t find the third goal needed to force extra time. Last season’s losing semi-finalists Redmires suffered an early surprise when their hosts Birley took the lead after just fifteen seconds! John Pedder’s sweet volley brought Dave Knaggs’ men level before Andy Bath (right) scored his first of the game to put them ahead. In the second half Bath added his second and Redmires’ third on a one on one and George Rudd sealed the deal with their fourth of the morning.

CBC Premier champions Stannington Village are also in the hat for round two as they recorded an 8-1 away at Brampton Rovers. Two strikes from Alex Torr (one a penalty) led the individual scoring tally whilst there were singles from Hobson, Flynn, Smith, Middleton and Grayson. Danny Smith’s effort being the pick of the eight when he cut inside from the wing, beat a defender and powerfully found the far corner of the Brampton net.

SUNDAY JUNIOR CUP - Eleven go through, but eight go out - Twentyone of the First and Second Division clubs were in action in the Junior Cup and eleven of these have safely negotiated the opening round. However, like the Senior Cup five of them came at the expense of other clubs in the league. Leading the way scoring wise were Division Two newcomers Forum FCCO as they recorded an impressive 9-1 home win against Division One Cotts FC. Jamie Smith (left) led the scoring with a hat-trick, Josh Gibson scored twice whilst Antony Holmes, Jav Sherratt, Jav Hefferan and Danny Higgins also netted for the home team who had a man of the match performance from Joseph Kazmierkiewicz. Cotts sole reply came from Salem Hiram.

Also defeating fellow member clubs were Royal Earl and they were also in the goals with a 7-0 win over Colley. Former Woodhouse Angel striker Mike Towey (right) scored twice as did Jack Hargreaves against an understrength Colley side. Tom Roebuck, Steve Brammer’s penalty and an own goal ensured Earl would be in seventh heaven. In another all Blades Super Draw tie, Norton Sportsman and Mosborough Reds were locked at 1-1 after extra time: Luke Fogg putting Reds ahead only for Joe Mores to head in the leveller from a Jack Waymouth corner. In the resultant shootout, stand-in keeper Josh Furniss saved two Mosborough penalties as Sportsman won 4-1 with Sonny Wilson netting the decisive kick.

Also defeating a fellow member club were Division Two Mosborough Whites as they recorded a 4-1 win at Division One Cobden View. Tim Pitt gave Cobden the lead when he raced onto a through ball and coolly lobbed the Mosborough keeper only for Jack Bennett to level matters. Two goals from Danny State, one a brilliant free-kick, and one from Jordan Meadows saw the visitors make round two. The final all-Blades Super Draw tie saw Division One Norton Oaks B defeat Division Two Woodhouse Juniors 2-0 at Tapton School; both goals coming from Jack Peake of which one was a penalty kick.

The most exciting tie saw Tyrone Gunter and Matt Jacobs doubles help Ranch win an eleven goal thriller at Middlewood Rovers, while a Liam Cartledge treble helped Crookes FC to a comfortable win at New Bohemians. A Jake Ballinger treble helped Boynton Sports through at Sheffield Legends, while Brad Gray and Jordan Sambrook doubles saw Woodseats Chantrey through at Brierley Cubs U21 and Ryan Whitney and Josh Sugden doubles helped Southey Social go through at The Kop End's expense. A Jack Hawkes double helped Brinsworth Phoenix through at Thorncliffe, but for Crookes & District, Wadsley Horse & Jockey and Civil Sports B it was the end of the road.

Ranch went through as they came out on the right side of an eleven-goal thriller. Tyrone Gunter and Matt Jacobs both scored twice, whilst Jack Jones and Michael Vella also netted for them. Woodseats Chantrey recovered from going a goal behind to secure their place in round two as they defeated Brierley Cubs 4-1 away from home. Brad Gray capped a man of the match performance with a brace whilst Jordan Sambrook also added a brace of his own as Chantrey bounced back from last week’s heavy league loss.

Liam Cartledge’s ten-minute treble helped Crookes FC to a 6-0 away win at New Bohemians B; with Matt Cohen, Peter Smith and an own goal making up the tally. Also scoring six goals away from home were Boynton Sports at Sheffield Legends, Jake Ballinger scored his second hat-trick in as many weeks to put the game beyond their hosts. Marcus O’Malley, former Stannington Village defender Marc Peacock and a Ross Thomson penalty were also on target for Boynton. Southey Social were in total command of their tie against The Kop End and went nap with a 5-0 win. Ryan Whitney and Josh Sugden both were at the double for a Scott Ellis inspired Southey side whilst Callum Sugden also found the net for the home team.

Brinsworth Phoenix also made the next stage as they recorded a 4-0 away win at Thorncliffe; Jack Hawkes scored a double and single efforts from Richard Ellin and Jordan Smith ensured a successful path. Oughtibridge WM are our final team through but without kicking a ball in anger as opponents Charnock Ridgeway U21 sadly folded operations before the game. Three Blades Super Draw sides did exit at the opening round. Crookes and District were dispatched 8-1 by visitors Bolsover Town; Johnnie Butler scoring Crookes sole strike just before half time. Wadsley Horse and Jockey are also out, defeated 4-2 at Eckington U21’s despite goals from Danny Barnsley and James McCormac. Civil Sports led their hosts Wincobank Crown Inn 2-1 at half-time but the second half was a different story as Crown turned it around to secure a 6-3 win; James Greenwood scored twice and Joe Taylor once for David Firth’s team.

17 SEP - CBC PREMIER - First Premier wins for both Intake and Killamarsh, but an Owen double helps keep Woodseats Club top - The CBC Premier's top two met and  Woodseats WMC stayed on top after a thrilling 3-3 draw at Wadsley Bridge Pheasant. Nick Owen (left) gave them the lead from the spot after a deliberate handball which also sent Pheasant down to ten men. Then the game really came to life. An own goal and a Jordan Turner goal put the hosts 2-1 ahead only for a superb solo effort from Liam Bryan and Owen’s second of the morning to restore Club’s lead with three minutes to go. However, Pheasant got a share of the spoils thanks to a penalty of their own, converted by Joe Slater.

A last gasp winner from Mark West saw Intake Old Boys come from two down to claim their first ever CBC Premier victory, 4-3 at Hallam FC. Goals from Dan Fox and David France had Hallam FC 2-0 ahead against CBC Premier newcomers Intake Old Boys but Jack Heald pulled one back from the spot after a handball in the penalty area. Intake were back on parity when Jonny Roper’s cross to the far post was tapped home by debutant Mark West. West's cross created a scramble and Harry Groombridge poked home Intake’s third of the game, before France’s second of the game made it 3-3 with quarter an hour left, but the visitors took the spoils in added-on time when West took advantage of some slack home defending to cap an amazing debut. Wickersley Old Village took the lead at Killamarsh Juniors when Adam Daughtrey netted after good work from Joe McGuinness. Daughtrey thought he had doubled the lead but saw it chalked off for an apparent offside. Matt Stead, with a penalty, and Jon Packman put the home team ahead and the game still had time for more controversy as Wickersley had two claims for penalties waved off and then McGuinness was felled at the edge of the area the referee awarded the free-kick Killamarsh’s way as the home side were preparing to set up a wall. The resultant counter saw Montel Kamara brilliantly bring the ball down, beat a Wickersley defender and drill the ball home. Former Vine stalwart Rikki Davidson’s first Wickersley goal with two minutes left made a one goal game but Killamarsh held on.

DIVISION 1 - Ryan is dead-Lee to send Village top - Debutant Ryan Lee had a game to remember for Woodhouse Village George as they brushed aside Steelers 7-0 in the only First Division game. Lee scored an incredible five times whilst there were also goals for Chris Salt and Theo Wilson as the result was more than adequate to see the hosts ascend to the top of the table against Steelers side lacking a cutting edge and waiting for their first points of the season.

10 SEP - CBC PREMIER - Bryan at the double to send Woodseats top - Four teams lead the way after two games gone in the CBC Premier. Two Liam Bryan (pictured right)) strikes and one from Dan Hoyland were good enough for Woodseats Club to overcome Hallam FC in tricky conditions at Tapton School. It was definitely just the trick for last season’s Division One runners-up as they now find themselves at the head of the top flight albeit on goal difference.

After upsetting Twentytwo Cup winners Handsworth Old Crown last week, Civil Sports A took the lead with quarter of an hour left in their home match against Wickersley Youth Old Village when veteran Gary Eades set up Stacy Sharif for the opener. But within five minutes, Wickersley levelled thanks to a well taken strike from Cory Goodwin. There were no further goals after that and both sides shook hands on a draw which was a fair result in the end.

Also with four points from two games are Norton Oaks and 2015-16 CBC Premier champions Wadsley Bridge Pheasant who won their respective home games 2-1 each. Norton had to come from behind to overcome newly promoted Killamarsh Juniors who were in the lead thanks to Matt Stead, and a much-improved show in the second half saw Jordan Marshall level matters with a powerful strike into the corner. Ste Scott (left) proved to be Norton’s matchwinner with a toe poke from six yards out and shatter Killamarsh’s hopes. Jordan Turner gave Pheasant the lead early doors against Handsworth Old Crown, and Lewis Fothergill extended that with a second half strike when Old Crown threatened an equaliser. A superb solo effort from full-back Mike Golland pulled one back for the visitors but that was as good as it was and the Cup holders are still searching for their first points of the season.

Penistone Church got their first points in the top division in the division’s remaining game, as they defeated fellow top flight promotee Intake Old Boys 3-1. Mitch Savage gave Church the lead but a left foot strike from Jonny Roper had the Old Boys back on terms. Penistone then missed a penalty which Old Boys custodian Steven Booth saved before Sam Scrivens scored twice from opposite corners of the box in the final fifteen minutes to give his team a maximum return.

DIVISION 1 - Chambers made for Oughtibridge, while Jack's the lad for Phoenix - In the battle of the top two in Division One, David Hudson’s Oughtibridge WM crushed an understrength Colley 11-2 at the War Memorial Ground. Callum Chambers topped the individual tallies with four goals whilst Matt Harrison grabbed a treble himself. Also on the scoresheet for the home team were Ross Brown (right), Sam Kassim, Chas Tunnard and Evan Watson whilst Colley gained some late respectability thanks to goals from Ragen Dempsey and Christopher Onjia.

Another team to score freely were Brinsworth Phoenix as they beat another understrength team in Civil Sports B; this time the score being 7-1. Jack Hawkes scored a hat-trick whilst there were further strikes from Daniel Commander with a brace, and single strikes from Karl Fox and Dale Savage. Dan Hall was Civil’s only goalscorer. Skipper Todd Guest gave Southey Social the lead at newly promoted Cobden View but Josh Delaney levelled matters with a tremendous overhead kick. Additional strikes from Ryan Whitney and Josh Sugden secured the points for Social where they could have had more thanks a string of saves from the home keeper; whilst Jack Dickens was inspirational in the visiting ranks.

Despite having to field top scorer Brad Bowland (left) in between the sticks as an emergency goalkeeper, Norton Sportsman edged Norton Oaks B by the odd goal in five. Michael Peake gave Oaks the lead as early as the fifth minute but that didn’t last long before James Archer was brought down in the area and then picked himself up to net the equaliser. Peake restored the lead again for the visitors before debutant Harry Mitchell tapped in a Chris Winters header for 2-2. Mitchell scored his second and the Sportsman winning goal just before half time, and then both teams had chances to score more but were denied by some solid defending and goalkeeping with Bowland drawing praise from his team for his stand-in role.

Chapeltown RBL enjoyed their trip to Steelers and were seven goals to the good by half time. Keenan Gibson started the rout with an absolute bullet of a header and then Niall Smith made it two goals in two games with a comprehensive finish beyond the home keeper. Veteran Dale Shaw scored number three before Andy Simpson celebrated his birthday with an exceptional scissor kick to make it four. Smith and Shaw then scored their second individual goals of the game whilst stand-in captain Tom Duty made it seven. Only one goal came in the second half, and Joe Moorhouse was the man who scored it: capping a well-deserved Man of the Match award with it.

The Woodhouse derby concluded the Division One action with Woodhouse Village George coming out on top 2-1 at Cotts FC. It was the home team that took the lead when Gareth Scarlett headed home well from a corner before a penalty, converted by skipper Perry Jackson, had the teams level going into the half time break. The visiting team went ahead when Ryan Lee crossed for Ollie Grady (right) to head home, and then had to brave a Cotts revival with three late saves from keeper Josh Tomkins securing the points for Village.

DIVISION 2 - Danny is top Jockey and Ballinger treble hits Cadbury, while a Smith double holds Crookes  - In the big game in Division Two, Crookes FC and Forum FCCO shook hands on a 2-2 draw. Forum player-manager Jamie Smith twice gave his team the lead but headers from Tom Islip and Max Pemberton ensured a share of the spoils in a well contested game between last season's Premier champions of the Meadowhall and Imperial leagues.

Wadsley Horse and Jockey are second in the table as four goals from Danny Barnsley helped them to a crushing 7-1 win at home to Woodseats Chantrey. Further strikes from Danny Bent, Reece James and Mitchell Gabbitass completed the rout, while Chantrey's sole reply came from Ben Raynes. Not far behind them on goal difference are Boynton Sports as they won their first game, 5-1 at home to Cadbury. Jake Ballinger scored twice and Paul Costello once saw the hosts 3-0 ahead at half time, Grant took advantage of some Boynton sloppiness to pull one back for Cadbury before Ballinger completed his treble and Connor Smith rounded off an excellent team move with a superb finish for the nap hand.

Lying in fourth are Mosborough Reds as they defeated Shakey 4-1 after a goalless first half. Andrew Redfern gave the visitors the lead just after the hour but Mosborough then rallied to score four unanswered goals in thirteen minutes and kill the match off. Joe Harris scored the first and last, whilst goals within a minute of each other by Alix Sorsby and Scott Williams made up the tally.

Finally, it took a brace of penalties to give Royal Earl the points in a seven-goal thriller with Mosborough Whites. Conor Chapell opened the scoring for Earl and then Olly Beaumont finished a fine move to make it 2-0 at the break. Steve Brammer scored the first of his penalties to extend it to three before Mosborough then produced a fine comeback to restore parity with three goals in a twenty-five minute spell; Chris Calcott with two and one from Jordan Meadows. However, with just five minutes to go, Earl were awarded a second spot-kick and Brammer duly obliged to net what turned out to be the match winner. Action from the game is shown below - pictures by Mick Moat.

8 SEP - STEVE GEE MERIT CUP FINAL - Redmires to face Cobden View in Merit Cup Final - The League has invited last season's CBC Premier Runners-up and Sunday Senior Cup semi finalists Redmires and last season's Division Two Runners-Up Cobden View to contest the Blades Super Draw League Steve Gee Merit Cup Final at Stocksbridge Park Steels Look Local Stadium on Thursday 21 September with a 7pm kick-off. Both sides had terrific season's last season, scoring 157 League goals between them. They achieved their success whilst maintaining very good discipline and Sporting records - something both sides have achieved for a good few seasons. This made them the League's choice for the final, although a couple of other clubs also came under serious consideration. Both sides made a winning start to this season, so it promises to be a terrific contest. Entrance to the game is free, so come along and support the teams at what is arguably the best non-league ground in the Sheffield area.

3 SEP - CBC PREMIER - Stannington off to a winning start, while Redmires start with a magnificent seven - Last season’s CBC Premier Division champions Stannington Village got their new season off to a winning start as they disposed of top flight newcomers Penistone Church with a 3-0 away win. The visitors took the lead when a Danny Smith corner was bundled home by the prolific Alex Torr (left) at the far post before Piers Bond doubled the advantage with a cross-cum-shot from fully forty-five yards out which found the home net. Two goals to the good at the break, Stannington made the game safe in the second half when Smith found Charlie Hobson and he in turn laid the ball off first time to Sean Flynn who calmly slotted the ball into the bottom corner.

Leading the way though are 2016-17 runners-up Redmires as they came away with an excellent 7-2 away win at Hallam. Ben Graney gave them the lead when he found the net from a corner by debutant Jake Schofield, Greg McMillan hauled Hallam after a well worked move before Andy Bath converted the first of two Redmires penalties in the game after Jake Gamban was fouled in the area to restore the visitors lead. Gamban made it 3-1 before half time and Bath scored his second of the morning to extend it to 4-1, with Schofield again being the provider. Dan Fox hauled Hallam back within two but Redmires kicked on again and scored three more times thanks to a brace from substitute Mikey Taylor and a spot kick this time converted by Stephen Parry.

There was a surprise in store as Twentytwo Cup winners Handsworth Old Crown started life under new tutelage with a 2-1 home loss to a determined Civil Sports A. Civil were ahead on the half hour when Wes Bamford saw his shot saved by the home keeper but younger brother Thomas tapped home the rebound. A decent home move saw Russell Hobson open his account for the season with the equaliser, and in the second half Old Crown saw Jordan Stocks and Matt Ellis both hit the woodwork. Yet Civil had the final say when Andrzej Gordon-Hides picked up a ball over the top and slotted past the advancing keeper for the match winning goal.

The remaining CBC Premier games saw an amazing statistic though; each one of the three ended in a 2-2 draw. CBC Premier newcomers Killamarsh Juniors and Intake Old Boys were the first to share the spoils, Intake had led 2-0 at the break thanks to goals from Dale Wood and Oliver Sullivan but Killamarsh had the better of the second half and strikes from Joe Glover and Man of the Match Josh Batterham gained them a point. Action from the game is shown below - pictures by Mick Moat.

Also sharing a 2-2 draw were Wickersley Youth Old Village and 2015-16 CBC Premier champions Wadsley Bridge Pheasant. Lewis Fothergill gave Pheasant the lead early doors and it stayed that way for a while until Drew Houghton set up Joe McGuinness for the equaliser. The home side continued to dominate after that but Adam Clayden restored Pheasant’s advantage following a swift counter. Just as it looked enough, the home side got a deserved point with an equaliser in the final minute; McGuinness being put clean through and he rounded the visiting custodian for an equaliser and his second of the game.

Finally, the final newcomer to the top table Woodseats Club also had a 2-2 draw in their opener with Norton Oaks A. Sam Read gave them the dream start but Jordan Marshall and a superb free-kick from Alan Mowforth had Oaks in the lead at half time. Ten minutes into the second half, Keith Cronin headed home Woodseats’ leveller but neither side could get a winner despite Aaron Liles going close for Norton with a shot that rattled the Club crossbar.

DIVISION 1 - Colley off to a flyer and there is also wins for Cobden and Oughtibridge - Early leaders in Division One are Colley after a great 4-2 away win at much fancied Southey Social. Christopher Onjia opened the scoring for Colley after they had made a bright start to the game, and after a bit of home pressure, Faisal Miladi (right) scored on a visiting breakaway to add a second. Regan Dempsey extended this to 3-0 before two goals from John Mellor in ten minutes ensured a thrilling final twenty. Yet any hope Southey had was wiped out when Josh Buxton scored the fourth for Colley and they saw the rest of the game out with ease.

Close behind them are David Hudson’s Oughtibridge WM as they recorded a 3-1 away win at newly promoted Norton Oaks B. Sam Kassim had gone close for the visitors but he teed up Ross Brown for the opener. Oaks levelled thanks to a debutant strike from Sam Smedley and went close a few times but further strikes from Kassim and a penalty ten minutes from time by Callum Chambers gave Oughtibridge a winning start.

Two more of the promoted sides shared five goals at Green Lane as Cobden View came out on top against Civil Sports B. A Joe Taylor penalty gave the opposition the lead but the real scoring came in the second half as both sides scored twice. An Alex Ward penalty and Joe Taylor (the Civil namesake) scored for David Firth’s men but strikes from George Wilson-Bland and former Loxley stalwart Tim Pitt gave Cobden the three-point haul.

Like the CBC Premier, the remaining three Division One games all ended in draws. Chapeltown RBL came from a two-goal deficit to salvage a point with Cotts FC. Luke Kingswood and Tom Hunt had given Cotts the lead but strikes from debutants Joe Long and Niall Smith ensured a 2-2 draw, Gav Butler also missed a penalty for the home team. Norton Sportsman took a fifth minute lead at Ranch when Mark Fereday stabbed home from a Jack Waymouth cross but Tyrone Gunter equalised for Ranch in an entertaining game which the hosts played with ten men after a red card ten minutes from the end.  Finally, Brinsworth Phoenix and homesters Woodhouse Villlage George shared six goals. Ryan Simmonite, Theo Wilson and a long range strike from Perry Jackson netted for Woodhouse whilst a double from Karl Fox and a superb solo effort from Daniel Commanda were on target for Phoenix.

DIVISION 2 - Crookes get off to a Shakey start - There was just one game in Division Two and newcomers Crookes FC had the perfect start with a 3-1 away triumph at The Shakey. Matt Cohen scored a couple of headers and Max Pemberton notched the third for one of the league new boys; Shakey put up a great performance though against last season's Meadowhall Premier champions and levelled before half time with a terrific Didici Sergiu strike. Shakey keeper Jack Veall (pictured left) was in inspired form with a string of unbelievable saves, but the ten in front of him also made sure that Crookes didn't have it all their own way in a game that was a terrific advert for Division 2.

LEAGUE TWENTYTWO CUP - Earl Toweyed into Round 2 as the new boys rule - It was also the first round of the TwentyTwo Cup and both Royal Earl and Mosborough Whites dished out 11-0 defeats to their opponents. Earl scorched to theirs at Cadbury; with former Woodhouse Angel striker Mike Towey marking his debut splendidly with a superb individual 5 goal performance. Steve Brammer added a brace (one a penalty) as did Gary Simons whilst Paddy Carrog, who opened the scoring and veteran Ryan Hindley were on target against a spirited home team. Mosborough Whites also hit the eleven mark, against a plucky Crookes and District. Danny State and Sean May both plundered four goals apiece whilst Callum Congreave with two and one from Levi Williamson made it the double figure score. Despite the score, Crookes kept a great attitude but couldn’t break through for a goal those efforts deserved.

Forum FCCO also hit the goal trail as they brushed aside fellow league newcomers Wadsley Horse and Jockey 8-0. Jamie Smith (right) scored a hat-trick, Lou Jackson and Josh Gibson each grabbed a brace and Carter Mupwaya as the home side recovered from a slow start to seal their place convincingly. Two goals from Jermaine Modest in the second half helped another league newcomer in Boynton Sports make round two at the expense of Woodseats Chantrey. Simon Marsden gave them the lead with a header from a Ross Thompson corner; which they held onto until the interval. Thompson then set up Marcus O’Malley to double the lead before Modest’s double put the game beyond doubt. Finally, Mosborough Reds are also in the second draw after a 3-0 win at Woodhouse Juniors: their scorers being Josh Smith at the double and a long range daisycutter from Alix Sorsby that trickled its way into the home goal.

28 AUG - It's the big kick-off this Sunday 3 September - It's the big kick-off this weekend when optimism of success will be at its highest for many teams. It's almost the start of a new era, with seven teams joining the league, including last season's Meadowhall Premier champions Crookes FC, Meadowhall Division One champions Mosborough Reds and last season's Imperial champions Forum. Also joining from the Meadowhall League is one of the areas oldest and most successful clubs, Royal Earl along with Meadowhall Premier Mosborough Whites. Another highly rated Imperial side, Boynton Sports, also join us along with a completely new team, Wadsley Horse & Jockey.

All these teams will make our Division Two probably the strongest it has ever been, but all of them except Crookes FC begin with a League twentytwo Cup tie. The best of them could well be Wadsley Horse & Jockey's visit to Forum, while Boynton Sports might also have their work cut out at Woodseats Chantrey. Royal Earl will be expected to progress at Cadbury, as should Mosborough Whites at home to Crookes & District, and Mosborough Reds at Woodhouse JFC. Crookes FC start with a Division Two game at a Shakey side boasting several new additions to their squad, so it should be an interesting test for both.

In the CBC Premier Division, last season's Division One champions Penistone Church, couldn't have a more difficult start as they play host to CBC Premier champions Stannington Village (pictured right), while last season's CBC Premier Runners-up Redmires also have a tricky away game at Hallam FC. Two newly promoted sides clash at Killamarsh Juniors as they entertain Intake Old Boys, while the other newly promoted side, Woodseats Club entertain last season's League Cup finalists Norton Oaks A. Last season's League Cup winners, Handsworth Old Crown, entertain Civil Sports A, while Wickersley Youth Old Village begin life at their new ground with a visit from Wadsley Bridge Pheasant.

Division One sees last season's Division Two champions Norton Sportsman travel to Ranch, while two other newly promoted sides clash with Civil Sports B entertaining Cobden View. Woodhouse Village George begin life in Division One with a very difficult home game against a Brinsworth Phoenix looking for a swift return to the CBC Premier and the same could be said of Norton Oaks B who entertain Oughtibridge WM. Another promoted side, Colley, travel to Southey Social, while the day's final game sees one of the title favourites Chapeltown RBL entertain Cotts FC, although this game might not go ahead due to Chapeltown's normal pitch not being available yet.

The full draw is: Cadbury v Royal Earl; Forum FCCO v Wadsley Horse & Jockey; Mosborough Whites v Crookes & District; Woodhouse JFC v Mosborough Reds; Woodseats Chantrey v Boynton Sports. The two Division 2 sides not involved in Round 1 are Shakey and Crookes FC, and they will meet each other in a League game.

14 AUG - Spartans take Bronze - Three of the Spartans players, Paul Stylianou, Jake Sharp and Sam Hayward, took a glorious Bronze medal in the football tournament at the Special Olympics in Sheffield, while another Spartan player, Matt Stokoe's team came 4th.

Group matches were played over 3 days and despite losing all their matches on the first day, the Yorks & Humber side improved significantly on the 2nd day, and a last minute equaliser in the last group match put them into the Bronze Medal match against SE Region on the last day. South East region, had beaten Y&H during the group stage and they took an early 2 goal advantage, but Y&H pulled back a goal in the first half and added 2 more to lead in the second half. SE equalised to take the match into extra -time and would have won it but for 2 crucial saves by Paul Stylianou late in the game. Spartans player Jake Sharp put Y&H ahead deep into added time of the first period of extra time and the team added 2 more goals during the second period of added time. The Y&H defence marshalled by Sam Hayward made sure there was no way back for SE. Wild emotional celebrations ensued that were witnessed by TV cameras from ITV Calender news who were filming the match . It was a tough week physically, emotionally and mentally, but lads proved that despite their disabilities that football is a level playing field for all. Pictured left with their Bronze Medals is Jake Ford, Sam Hayward and Paul Stylianou. The 4th player in the middle photo is Matt Stokoe, while the 3rd phot shows the whole Y&H squad.
