28-Sept 2014 - CBC PREMIER - Broadbent and Foster doubles help Riverside and The Park to first wins - A Luke Broadbent doubled helped Riverside to their first ever top flight victory at home against Woodhouse Angel, and a Nat Foster (left) double helped The Park to their first win of the season against Brinsworth Whitehill. Full back Kyle Mitcham scored his third of the season to win it for The Vine against Redmires, while a Joe Appleyard header made it twenty eight league games unbeaten for Oughtibridge WM as they drew a real thriller at Bulls Head.

A Luke Broadbent double helped Riverside to their first ever top flight victory at home against Woodhouse Angel, and a Nat Foster double helped The Park to their first win of the season against Brinsworth Whitehill. Broadbent’s angled drive gave Riverside the lead and only a terrific Luke Browse save stopped them extending the lead, but Angel hit back before the break when Tom Goodall scored from a Sam Comer corner. After the break Christian Rowe restored Riverside’s lead with a terrific solo goal, but when Nick Hague stopped another Riverside attack , a quick break followed and Chris Towey hit a second equaliser. Riverside weren’t to be denied though and Broadbent scored the winner from the edge of the penalty area.

Nat Foster gave The Park a sixth minute lead and just before the break Aidy Tomlin doubled their lead. Brinsworth pull one back through Ross Johnson soon after the break, but a second from Nat Foster, followed by another from Joshua Foster gave The Park a 4-1 victory and their first points of the season.

After James Mitcham had set Matt Ellis up to give The Vine the lead with a first time shot, Redmires equalised with a shot into the top corner on his debut, but the points went The vine’s way when a Joe France corner was forced home by full back Kyle Mitcham for his third goal of the season.

The game of the day came at Bulls Head where they shared eight goals with an Oughtibridge WM that has now gone twenty eight league games unbeaten. An Alan Mowforth penalty gave Bulls Head an early lead, but Danny Clinton volleyed home an equaliser after being set up by Dale Watts. Oughtibridge then took the lead when Ross Brown drove home from the edge of the area and a Callum Hawley free kick put Oughtibridge 3-1 up at the break.

Bulls Head came roaring back after the break when a Liam Bonnick bullet from a tight angle pulled one back before a tap-in by Dave Stacey drew the sides level. Another tap-in by Adam Sui then put Bulls Head ahead, but Oughtibridge grabbed another equaliser with a Joe Appleyard header and although both sides had chances to win it, they had to settle for a point each.

DIVISION 1 - Danny boy's double puts Oaks back on top as three unbeaten records tumble - Norton Oaks 'A' are back on top of Division One after a Danny Reet double helped them to victory over the previously unbeaten Handsworth Turf. Reet put Norton ahead with a lob over the advancing keeper and their lead was doubled when Robbie Aspinall’s pace took him clear before he fired into the corner. Turf hit back when Mario Esposito headed home a Tom Crosby corner and they were level by half time when Danny Leesley took Perry Jackson’s pass in his stride to score. Jackson almost gave Turf the lead in the second half, but when Leesley gave a penalty away Reet stepped up to take it and even though Liam Richardson saved his penalty, Reet followed up to hit home the rebound and end Turf’s unbeaten record.

Intake Old Boys unbeaten record also fell at home against The Pheasant. Lewis Fothergill (first two pictures below) and Darren Richardson gave The Pheasant a two goal half time lead and although Matt Hunter pulled one back and Carl Andrews missed the chance to restore The Pheasant’s two goal lead when he missed a penalty, but just two minutes later Andrews made up for it by hitting his side’s third. Adam Clayton reduced the arrears again for Intake, but Andy Dawson’s deflected shot ended any hopes of a comeback.

Aston Swallownest also lost their unbeaten record as Loxley claimed their first win of the season. Loxley had to play Geoff Mayfield as a stand-in keeper, but his defence gave him great protection and when a flick on by Anthony Marshall led to a mix up between the Aston keeper and centre back, Mick Smith nipped in to score the game’s only goal.

Another side to get their first win of the season was Dam House Bar after they came from behind to beat Hare & Hounds. The game’s stand-out player Harry ONeill finished off a slick move to give Dam House a first half lead, but soon after the break it was cancelled out by Stefan Rankine. Ross Eckhardt then beat the offside trap he put Hounds ahead, but ONeill drove home an equaliser for the home side and they won it when Gary West’s cross was met by a brave diving header by Danny Barnett.

Ecclesfield Players Lounge beat Ranch 2-0 despite having two penalties saved by Ranch's stand-in keeper Connor Brunt. Mark Groves and Danny Turner goals won the game for Ecclesfield and the winning margin would have been more had it not been for Brunt’s penalty saves from Groves and Andy Baxter, but Ecclesfield keeper James Abramski also made terrif saves to stop Tom Hartley and Chris Wajs efforts.

DIVISION 2 - Keeper scores as Phoenix keep their perfect record, but Hallam stay top - Phoenix keeper Kieran Osbourne scored from the penalty spot as his side kept their perfect record in Division Two with a 4-0 victory over Cobden View. Dave Savage played a one-two with Chris Knowles to give Phoenix a half time lead and in the second half Karl Fox met Josh Aston’s cross to head home. Osbourne then had his moment of glory to make it three and another Aston cross was put away by Joe Jackson to complete the scoring.

Phoenix have still to drop a point and concede a goal, but they stay second after Hallam’s 4-1 victory Sharrow Vale kept them at the top of the table. Craig Williams was first to a rebound from a free kick to give Hallam the lead and a fumble by the home keeper allowed David France to double the lead. John Matterson swept home a cross to pull one back for Vale, but an Alex Fearn strike restored Hallam’s two goal lead by half time. Sharrow Vale gave it a good go to get back into the game in the second half, but the Hallam defence held firm and Danny Milner added their fourth in the final minute.

City Taxis stay third after Jordan Marshall's header midway through the second half proved to be the game’s only goal against Colley. Chris Fowler, Josh Connor and Matt Meaney all had chances for Colley, but Taxis held out.

Fox & Hounds Rangers are up to fourth after an Ash Peet double helped them to a 3-1 victory at Steelers. Craig Begbie thumped home a free kick to give Fox the lead before Peet headed their second. An Alistair Gears volley pulled one back for Steelers, but Peet volley his second to put Fox 3-1 up by the break. Steelers pressed for much of the second half, but the Fox defence kept them at bay.

After Crookes & District had squandered some early chances, Gareth Morley finally made one pay to put them ahead at home to Norton Oaks ‘B’, but just a minute later Jamie Marshall had the Crookes defence under arrest when he cancelled it out. It looked as if they would be the game’s only goals until Joe Beachell crossed for Oliver West to volley Norton’s winner with just thirty seconds remaining.

Chapeltown RBL gained their first win of the season, 4-1 against Laycock Sports. Liam Gibson put the home side ahead after just two minutes and they doubled their lead before the break with a spectacular overhead kick by Dale Shaw. Josh Savage made it three after the break and although Steve Morris pulled one back for Laycock, Ben Palmer hit fourth for Chapeltown following good work by Shaw.

22-Sept 2014 - County FA new phone number - The Sheffield & Hallamshire County FA now has a new phone number - 0114 261 5500

22-Sept 2014 - Sunday Senior Cup draw - Round 2 of the Sunday Senior Cup has thrown up two all-Blades Super Draw ties, with Bulls Head entertaining Redmires and Oughtibridge WM at home against Woodhouse Angel. Of the rest, only Riverside has a home tie, against AFC Masons. The full list of ties involving our clubs is: Bulls Head v Redmires, Crookes v Brinsworth Whitehill, Oughtibridge WM v Woodhouse Angel, Riverside v AFC Masons, Swallownest Miners Welfare v Sheffield Civil Service, SWD v Stannington Village, The Abbey v The Park, Woodhouse Junction v The Vine. All ties to be played on Sunday 12 October.

21-Sept 2014 - Great Yorkshire Run Traffic Problems on 28 September - All clubs should be aware that the Great Yorkshire Run is being held in Sheffield on Sunday 28 September and roads around the City centre right through to the end of Penistone Road at Hillsborough will be closed to traffic. Make sure your players set off early enough to follow any diversions, particularly if your game is anywhere in the Hillsborough vicinity. The games at Winn Gardens (Riverside v Woodhouse Angel) and the Niagara Sports Ground (The Park v Brinsworth Whitehill) are likely to be the most difficult to get to and players who live in the Hillsborough area will also have have to plan their routes to avoid problems. Make sure you plan a route that does not involve going on Penistone Road in particular. Routes to other games are likely to also be affected, so plan your routes and set off early. Details of the event including the course can be found by visiting the Great Yorkshire Run website.

21-Sept 2014 - CBC PREMIER - Clinton treble as Oughtibridge snatch it in late drama against The Park - The CBC Premier also provided a couple of thrillers with both Oughtibridge WM and Stannington Village having hat-trick heroes as they came from behind to pick up vital wins. Oughtibridge WM’s home game against The Park started well for them with Danny Clinton scoring from a tight angle after latching onto Ross Brown’s through ball. Although their lead was soon cancelled out by The Park’s Adi Tomlin, Oughtibridge were in front at the interval with a Justin Westoby strike.

The Park looked more determined at the start of the second half and Nat Foster rose to head their second equaliser and it looked like they might end Oughtibridge’s twenty six game unbeaten run when a terrific Mark Townsend free kick put them ahead. Oughtibridge responded and when Clinton was felled in the area by Jordan Bletcher, Clinton picked himself up to rifle home the spot kick. It looked certain to end all square until the very last action of the game saw Oughtibridge awarded a second penalty after an unnecessary challenge that saw Bletcher red carded and Clinton complete his hat-trick with his second spot kick (pictured right).

After drawing with Redmires the week before, Stannington Village second clash in eight days with them started badly for the champions. Gavin Davis missed a golden opportunity after just thirty seconds and they were soon behind when a foul on Matt Reay saw a penalty awarded and Reay picked himself up to score from the spot. Redmires quickly doubled their advantage when Dave Knaggs met a Dale White cross to score and despite Stannington reducing those arrears when a Davis shot could only be parried by the Redmires keeper and Jack Mylnek (left) headed home, Redmires took a two goal lead into the break after Knaggs grabbed his second from a Jon Wall cross.

The second half started better for Stannington and they pulled one back when they were awarded a penalty and Mylnek rifled home the spot kick. There equaliser had a bit of luck about it as Lee Johnstone’s cross evaded everyone to find the net. Stannington were well on top at this stage and they got their noses in front when Mylnek completed his hat-trick from a tight angle and they made certain of the points and a return to the top of the table when Davis hit a real cracker from the edge of the area.

Bulls Head recorded their second successive victory with an impressive 4-0 victory over Riverside. Callum Chambers hit a post in an early chance for Riverside and they were having plenty of possession, but it was Bulls Head that took the lead when Nick Ash finished off John Kentzer’s through ball. That lead was doubled by the break when Mark Bryant pounced on a mistake by the keeper and Adam Sui made it three soon after the break. Riverside were still having plenty of possession, but without ever really threatening the Bulls Head goal and instead it was the hosts that showed them a master class of finishing when Alan Mowforth curled home their fourth from the edge of the area.

Last season’s runners-up Civil Service also recorded their second win in as many weeks, 2-0 over a The Vine side that finished just a place below them last season. After Civil keeper Luke Herriott had made a good save from Matt Ellis, Civil took the lead when Josh Corker’s low free kick was dummied by new signing Calvin Thomas and defender Chris Brooke forced the ball home at the back post. James Mitcham should have equalised for The Vine when he squandered an open goal and Civil took advantage to seal the points when Danny Wattam fed Andrzej Gordon-Hines and his cross was headed back across the keeper by Danny Fowler (right) on his return to the side after a long injury lay-off.

DIVISION 1 - Senior moment saves Ecclesfield - With most teams involved in Sunday Junior Cup ties there was just one Division One game and although newly promoted Intake Old Boys lost their perfect record they remain unbeaten and climbed to the top of the table with a 1-1 draw at Ecclesfield Players Lounge. Joe Knight hit a post for the home side in the first minute, but after Ecclesfield’s new keeper James Abramski had made a couple of good saves, it was Intake that went in front when Shaun Garwell scrabbled the ball home. Ecclesfield’s bad luck with goalkeepers struck for a third time when Abramski had to give way to injury and Mark Groves took over in goal, but Intake’s cause was helped when John Higgins was red-carded and despite a terrific rearguard action by the Intake defence in the second half, Craig Senior (left) grabbed a deserved equaliser for Ecclesfield.

DIVISION 2 - Howsham double sees Hallam win thriller with Laycock Sports - Hallam FC are Division Two’s early leaders after they twice came from behind to win a real thriller with fellow newcomers, Laycock Sports 4-3. Hallam’s first ever home game didn’t start well as Laycock Sports took an early lead when Scott Lyons converted Steve Morris’s cross, but Hallam were level just two minutes later when they were awarded a penalty and Joe Howsham scored from the spot (pictured right). Hallam’s celebrations were cut short though as they were level for less than a minute, with Laycocks going straight to the other end and restoring their lead with a reall stunner from the edge of the area by Tyler Revell.

Hallam then put the Laycocks defence under severe pressure and hit the woodwork three times, but with James Green outstanding and keeper Grant Parkin making a couple of good saves, the visitors held onto their lead until the break. The second half started in much the same way with Hallam continuing to put the vistors defence under extreme pressure. Parkin was called into action again and Jack Waddle hit a shot narrowly wide.

The pressure finally told when a second penalty was awarded and Howsham confidently put away his second spot kick. After that the Hallam barrage of their visitors goal continued and after striking the woodwork another three times they finally got their noses in front with a Rob Gent strike. It didn’t take them too long to double that advantage with Danny Milner scoring a real scorcher from the edge of the area against his old club (first picture left below - all pictures by Mick Moat).

Laycocks didn’t give up though and veteran Andy Register helping to stem the flow, his young team began to get back into the game. Their efforts were rewarded when Paul Asdams grabbed a deserved third goal and they had Hallam rocking a bit at this stage, but they gathered themselves enough to hold out to secure a win in that historic first ever home game.

Laycock Sports: Grant Parkin, Tony Johnston, Robert Brookfield, James Green, Ricky Williamson, Dellis Plumtree, Steven Morris, Paul Adams, Brendan Wilson, Scott Lyons, Tyley Revill, Subs: Chris Plumtree Jack Robinson Andy Register

SUNDAY JUNIOR CUP - Turf and Norton Oaks A both hit double figures on good day for our clubs - In the Sunday Junior Cup both Handsworth Turf and Norton Oaks ‘A’ hit double figures on a good day for our clubs. Super Mario Esposito (right) scored eight as Handsworth Turf beat Ecclesfield Red Rose 14-0, while Perry Jackson had to settle for just two after missing a penalty. Turf’s others came from Matt Jackson, Ollie Grady, Tom Smith and Tom Crosby.

Norton Oaks ‘A’ also won 14-0 against an Athletico Forum that just couldn’t cope with Norton’s slick play. Along with a Robbie Aspinall strike, Sam and Billy Ireland netted two each to give Norton a five goal half time lead and in the second half Billy Ireland (left) added three more to his tally. He still had to settle for second billing though as Danny Reet entered the game to hit Norton’s other six.

Norton Oaks B also went through as the Division Two side won their all-Blades Super Draw tie at Division One Hare & Hounds on a penalty shoot-out after a thrilling 3-3 draw. After Rankine had given Hare & hounds the lead, Oaks levelled when Oliver West put Richie Pearson in to score. Oaks then went in front when Ste Reynalds cross evaded everyone to find the net, but a Hayes strike had the hosts level by half time. Oaks went back in front in the second have when Reynalds set West up to score, but a second goal for Rankine to the game to extra time. No more goals came though so it went to penalties and after a couple of misses by the home side it left Ash Holland to crash home the winning penalty.

Phoenix triumphed in the other all-Blades Super Draw tie at their fellow Division Two rivals Steelers, with Karl Fox, Joe Jackson and Sam Firth goals giving Phoenix a 3-1 victory. Blake Owen hit Steelers consolation goal.

Cup holders The Pheasant went through at Castle Inn, with two from Matt Turner and one each for Carl Andrews, Shane Andrews, Dean Williamson and Lee Grocock giving The Pheasant a 6-2 victory. Last season’s beaten finalists Southey Social didn’t do so well though and despite an Ashley Matthews goal early in the second half, they fell at the first hurdle, 4-1 at Red Lion Bombers. Chris Cottyn’s goal wasn’t enough to stop Crookes & District also going out 3-1 against New Bohemians, but Southey and Crookes were the only two losers against teams from other leagues as a total of thirteen clubs made progress.

Steve Davis and Danny Barnett both scored twice as Dam House Bar beat The Royal 6-0, while a Craig Begbie penalty and one from Ash Peet saw Fox & Hounds come from behind to win 2-1 against Sheffield Sportsman. Two from Mike Walker and one from Mark Hoyle in the first half gave Cobden View a comfortable 3-1 win at Hollybush, and Chapeltown RBL’s goals from a Will Jones penalty, skipper Paul Dawson and John Matteson’s solo effort for their 3-0 win at Mosborough U21 also all came in the first half.

A double from David Primhak along with one from John Matteson gave Sharrow Vale a deserved 3-1 win at Jaunty Park, while Breon Fogarty, Tom Hartley and Connor Brunt strikes gave Ranch a 3-0 home win over Ecclesfield Red Rose U21. The most unlikely scorer of the day was Loxley’s secretary Dominic Ambler (right). He made a very rare appearance as his side cruised to a 6-1 victory at New Barrack Tavern. After falling behind, Ambler accidentally set up Tim Pitt for the equaliser with a shot that was going so far wide it turned into the perfect pass. Geoff Mayfield headed Loxley in front soon after the break and as Loxley took charge Carl Macrury and Mick Smith increased their lead. Next came Ambler’s moment when a Smith shot was parried out by the keeper only for it to hit Ambler and trickle over the line. Pitt completed the scoring with a more conventional header.

18-Sept - STEVE GEE MERIT CUP FINAL - Cup shock as Aston land the Merit Cup  - A first half Ian Draper looping header and a David Sills strike after the break saw Division One Aston Swallownest beat CBC Premier Brinsworth Whitehill 2-0 in the Steve Gee Merit Cup Final, played at Stocksbridge Park Steels stadium.

Both teams started high tempo game but Brinsworth (pictured right) were the first to settle into the game, keeping possession of ball, but for all of that possession, they didn't look like breaking down Aston's well organised defence, with right back Adam Smith snuffing out several attacks. Aston looked to hit them on the break through their strike partnership of David Sills and Ian Draper and in one such break Aston broke the deadlock when a high left wing cross from Smith was met by Draper and his looping header from the edge of the area gave the Brinsworth keeper no chance.

The lead was nearly cancelled immediately from the kick-off as Brinsworth raced down pitch and despite an inviting cross across face of goal by Ross Johnson, no one could get the important touch. Just before the break, Brinsworth went close again with another cross, this time from Joe McGuiness but yet again no one was able to get a touch.

The second half started with Aston having more of the ball and Sills looked certain to double their lead until a great goal line clearance by Matt Langley kept the ball out. Brinsworth then had a strong appeal for a penalty turned down by referee Pete Henger before a terrific save by Aston keeper Scott Hall stopped Cory Goodwin from equalising. ton continued to have more of the ball this half and they took a stranglehold of the game when a swift move fell to man of the match Sills outside the area and he smashed an unstoppable shot into the top corner

Brinsworth tried to respond and after another great save by Hall stopped them pulling one back they came even closer in in the final minute. A corner caused a scramble in the Aston goalmouth and after the ball was only half cleared off the line, a second attempt saw McGuiness's shot come back off the crossbar and when the ball came back out a third time, Simon Dungworth hit a great volley, but again the ball smashed against the crossbar before it was finally cleared. Aston deservedly held on to claim their first Final victory.

Aston Swallownest: Scott Hall, Adam Smith, Scott Macormac, Ross Edwards, Andrew Pearson, Ben Winter, Danny Wilcox, Billy Evans, David Sills, Ian Draper, Lee Milburn Subs: Sam Llewellyn, Konna Payne, Matt Wilton, Tom Connelly.

Brinsworth Whitehill: Richard Dowell, Danny Johnson, Jed McGowen, Josh Turner, Adam Halloub, Ryan Watson, Matt Langley, Lewis Watson, Joe McGuiness, Danny Willis, Ross Johnson Subs: Liam Faval, Cory Goodwin, Nathan Roebuck, Jack Armstrong, Simon Dungworth

Referee: Pete Henger Assistant Referees: Phil Jones and Adrian Roebuck

14-Sept 2014 - CBC PREMIER - Brinsworth's late show leaves Vine in a tangle - Three goals in the last nine minutes saw Brinsworth Whitehill come from two down to get their first ever top flight win at the expense of hosts The Vine. A Matt Langley shot that took a big deflection off Dan Simpson to give Brinsworth an early lead, but Craig Woolley and Rikki Davidson combined to set up Matt Ellis to bring The Vine level by the break. The Vine then went in front when Liam Peelo’s cross was headed home by Kyle Mitcham and they looked certain to take the points when Mitcham grabbed his second, but when The Vine’s Andy Marsh received his second yellow card the game changed.

Ross Johnson’s chip pulled one back and Lewis Watson’s bullet header brought Brinsworth level. The Vine’s defence was all over the place by this time and when Joe McGuiness crossed, Danny Willis took advantage to snatch a very unlikely winner for the newcomers to the top flight.

Bulls Head also found themselves two down at The Park after two Scott Ellis strikes had put the home team in charge, but The Park then had a player dismissed and soon after a handball allowed Sam Britton to pull one back from the penalty spot before half time. The sides were level fifteen minutes into the second half when Nick Ash crossed for Mark Bryant to tap in and although The Park looked to be hanging on after that, a Sam Newton solo goal gave all three points to Bulls Head.

Civil Service also fell behind at Riverside when Callum Chambers raced clear to score with a low finish, but Civil levelled when Wes Bamford took advantage of a corner that wasn’t cleared. Bamford then set up Gary Eades to put Civil ahead with an angled shot and they doubled their advantage when Eades turned provider for Daniel Campbell to score. Riverside pulled one back when Christian Rowe tapped in after a Chambers shot had been parried by keeper Luke Herriott, but Civil held on for their first win of the season.

Despite having nine of their squad missing, Redmires took the lead against champions Stannington Village when Dave Knaggs was brought down in the area and Matt Reay scored from the penalty spot. It was almost two when Hegel Noubissie hit a post. Gavin Davis also hit the woodwork for Stannington, but they did eventually level after the break when Dan Green headed home a Rob Shelley corner. Jack Mylnek then wasted a good chance to win it for Stannington and they had to settle for just a point.

A Scott Birch hat-trick and a Mitch Savage double helped Stocksbridge Park Steels to an 8-2 victory over Woodhouse Angel leaving Steels as the only CBC Premier side with a perfect record. George Orrell was put through by Savage to give Steels the lead before Birch smashed his first into the top corner from the edge of the area. Birch then grabbed his second before Savage netted his first to give Steels a four goal half time lead.

Birch completed his hat-trick with a cool finish before Brad Williams hit Angel’s first. With Joe Cloves outstanding for Steels they further increased their lead when Savage hit his second with a free kick (the final two pictures below). Jake Mitchell and Jamie King headers took Steels total to eight, although the final goal went Angel’s way when Jonno Williams scored a real contender for goal of the season. DIVISION 1 - Super Mario takes Turf to the top, while May double keeps Intake just behind - New signing Mario Esposito scored twice as Handsworth Turf took over at the top of Division One with a 4-0 victory at Dam House Bar. Ben Shackshaft’s bullet header from Tom Crosby’s corner gave Turf a half time lead and after the break Esposito latched onto Perry Jackson’s pass to lob the keeper. Esposito went past three defenders before hitting his second before his new strike partner Sam Atkin headed home from a Robert Pratt cross to complete the scoring.

Just behind them is newly promoted Intake Old Boys after a Kavan May double helped them to a 4-1 victory over Ranch. May pounced on a Paul Turner cross to put Intake ahead, only for Tom Harley to head an equaliser from Breon Fogarty’s corner. Intake went back in front when Liam Parnell headed home after John Higgins’ free kick came off the bar and after Parnell and Adam Clayton had combined to get the ball to him, May curled home his second from the edge of the area. Clayton then completed the scoring  after Stuart McGregor and Turner had combined to set him up.

Aston Swallownest maintained their unbeaten record by inflicting a second successive defeat on title favourites The Pheasant. Dave Sills unselfishly squared the ball for Ian Draper to give Aston a half time lead and although Lee Grocock levelled the scores in the second half, Aston won it when Scott McCormack leapt highest to meet Adam Pursehouse’s cross.

Ecclesfield Players Lounge's 2-1 victory over Southey Social gave them their first points of the season. Ash Matthews missed an open goal for Southey before Gavin Hunter crossed for Craig Senior to head Ecclesfield in front by half time and Senior and Hunter combined for Andy Baxter to double their lead after the break. Danny Lindley pulled one back for the visitors and only the woodwork and three terrific saves by keeper Paul Bashforth stopped Southey from equalising.

Loxley also took its first point of the season with a home draw against Hare & Hounds. A long throw allowed Ralph Clarkson to head Loxley into the lead, but ten minutes later George Rudd converted Rob Troughton’s cross to give Hounds a share of the points.

DIVISION 2 - Leaders beaten by Stafford tap in, but Knowles double sees Phoenix home - Early Division Two leaders City Taxis suffered their first defeat as a Josh Stafford strike gave Norton Oaks 'B' their first win of the season. Oaks had to start the game with just nine men after car problems and although they still only had ten men by half time, they had coped well with the City Taxis onslaught. More players arrived at half time and they then got into the game more and took an unlikely three points when Stafford tapped home a corner that wasn’t cleared (see the picture first left - all photos by Mick Moat).

That left Phoenix as the only club to win all its games after a Chris Knowles double gave helped them to a 3-0 victory over Crookes & District. After a goalless first half, Knowles first was a bullet header and his second came at the end of a flowing move. Matt Winthrow’s cross saw Sam Firth head home the third.

Michael Kay went from zero to hero by scoring Hallam FC's equaliser at Steelers after his deflection had put Steelers in front. Hallam dominated the first half but only took the lead in the final minute of it thanks to John Howsham’s glancing header. Blake Owen levelled for Steelers after the break and they went in front when Fraser Glossop’s shot was deflected into his own net by Kay. It was nearly three when Owen hit the bar, but Kay grabbed a deserved equaliser for Hallam in the final minute.

A single Ridha Miladi header from Ritchie Whitworth’s corner was enough to give Colley victory at Chapeltown RBL, while an Ash Peet double gave newcomers Fox & Hounds Rangers their first points with victory at Cobden View. Peet’s first was a venomous volley early in the game and his second from a tight angle came ten minutes from the end.

10-Sept - Crookes & District home ground has tractor and ride-on mower stolen - Will people please keep their ears and eyes open as the Oughtibridge pitch where Crookes & District play has had its ride on mower and tractor stolen from the changing rooms. The tractor is a Blue iseki 2160 and the ride on mower is a black McCulloch. Please contact the police if anything is known about this theft.

9-Sept - KITLOCKER CUP - Kitlocker Cup draw sees a repeat of last season's final - The draw for Round 2 of the League Kitlocker Cup was made at Bramall Lane today by the League Chairman and Blades Super Draw Promotions department's Jude Foster (pictured right with the draw) and it remarkably brought a repeat of last season's final with holders Redmires at home to the team they beat at Bramall Lane, The Park. Two other all-CBC Premier ties see Oughtibridge WM entertain neighbours Stocksbridge Park Steels and Woodhouse Angel entertain The Vine. Former holders Civil Service have an intriguing home tie with League newcomers City Taxis, while the other three newcomers all have home ties. The full Round 2 draw is: Civil Service v City Taxis; Colley v Riverside; Crookes & Dist v Handsworth Turf; Fox & Hounds Rgs v Norton Oaks ‘B’; Hallam FC v Chapeltown RBL; Hare & Hounds v Brinsworth Whitehill; Laycock Sports v Aston Swallownest; Loxley v Bulls Head; Norton Oaks ‘A’ v Ecclesfield PL; Oughtibridge WM v Stocksbridge PS; Ranch v Cobden View; Redmires v The Park; Southey Social v Dam House Bar; Stannington Village v Phoenix; The Pheasant v Intake OB; Woodhouse Angel v The Vine. All ties to be played on Sunday 5 October.

7 September 2014 - CBC PREMIER - Jack's the lad as Champions get off to a winning start - Jack Mylnek (left) scored twice as Stannington Village got their defence of the League title off to a winning start with a 3-0 victory over Woodhouse Angel. A mistake in the Angel defence saw Mylnek go clear to open the scoring, but Angel should have levelled when they were awarded a penalty, yet Gareth Simons spot kick was easily saved by John Grayson in the Stannington goal. The home side doubled their lead just before the break when Lee Johnstone’s corner was powerfully headed home by Bill Green. Stannington clinched the victory in the second half when Mylnek was in the right place to head home when the ball was spilled by the keeper.

Last season's runners-up, Civil Service, crashed to a 2-0 defeat at Cup holders Redmires. Both goals came in the first half with Jon Wall opening the scoring from an acute angle and Yianni Giorgiou marking his debut with a twenty five yard goal. Service tried to get back into it after the break and Dave Ward in the Redmires goal saved well from Wes Bamford and Adam Firth, and when Ben Sanderson did beat Ward his effort was cleared off the line.

The Vine's Matt Ellis started where he left off last season with his side's winner against Bulls Head. Ellis was the CBC Premier’s leading scorer last season and when Phil Miskell played him in he showed he will once again be a real threat as he turned the defender and shot into the bottom corner. Only a terrific Matt Coates save from a Danny Seaman free kick stopped The Vine adding a second and with Lee Godwin holding The Vine’s defence together the nearest Bulls Head came to equalising was when Adam Siu headed over.

After Kev Davies had headed Stocksbridge Park Steels into a first half lead (pictured 1st left below), newly promoted Brinsworth Whitehill hit back after the break when Danny Johnson scrambled the ball home from a Matt Langley corner. Joe McGuiness blazed over the bar when he should have put Brinsworth in front, and his side paid for it when Scott Birchmet Davies cross to put Steels back in front. Birch then completed the scoring from the penalty spot after George Orrell was felled by the keeper, but the final 3-1 scoreline didn’t really reflect how close the game had been.

The other two promoted sides, Riverside and Oughtibridge WM fought out a 2-2 draw. Danny Clinto put Oughtibridge ahead from the penalty spot after he had been brought down, but Riverside were level by the break when Josh Jones headed home from Tom Goodison’s free-kick. Ollie Black restored Oughtibridge’s lead after the break, but with the Riverside keeper refusing to be beaten again, Christian Rowe earned his side a point when he beat two defenders before slotting home.

DIVISION 1 - Shackshaft double helps Turf see off Ecclesfield - Handsworth Turf got their bid for a swift return to the CBC Premier off to the best possible start as a Ben Shackshaft double helped them win 4-1 at an Ecclesfield Players Lounge relegated with Turf last season. Robert Pratt set Tom Smith away for him to cross for Shackshaft’s first and Turf doubled their lead when Jordan Lodge marked his debut with a goal from Frazer McNeil’s cross. Lodge then crossed for Shackshaft to get his second and Matt Jackson headed their fourth after the break from Perry Jackson’s corner.

Norton Oaks perfect start came to an abrupt end with a 3-0 defeat at newly promoted Intake Old Boys. A quick turn  saw Matt Hunter hit a left foot shot into the corner to give Intake the lead before Dan Humberstone met John Higgins free kick with a towering header to make it two - see the first three photos below. Hunter set up Adam Clayton to score Intake’s third and clinch a deserved victory. All photos by Mick Moat.

Another newly promoted side, Hare & Hounds, needed a last minute Rob Troughton penalty to give them a point at Aston Swallownest. Aston had lead with a Billy Evans header, but they were left regretting missed chances when Stefan Rankine was pushed over in the area for Troughton to score.

Last season's Division Two champions and Sunday Junior Cup winners The Pheasant crashed to a surprise 2-1 home defeat by Ranch. After a goalless first half, player manager Richard Honeyman headed Ranch in front from Ben Hartley’s corner and he then played a one-two with Tom Hartley for Hartley to double their lead. Craig Mawhood pulled one back for The Pheasant, but it was Ranch that went nearest to scoring after that when Steve Batty’s effort was saved.

The closest game of the day saw a John Mellor double help Southey Social to a narrow 4-3 victory at Loxley. Skipper Lee Wilson’s overhead kick put Southey ahead and Mellor found the bottom corner to double their lead. A Simon Stones penalty got Loxley back into the game and he hit a second to level before half time. Mellor headed Southey back in front from Danny Lindley’s cross and Lindley added a fourth. Geoff Mayfield pulled one back from a second penalty for Loxley, but they couldn’t grab an equaliser

DIVISION 2 - Howsham treble helps get Hallam's Sunday life going - A Joe Howsham treble was the backbone in Hallam FC’s 5-1 victory as they got their first ever Sunday season off to a winning start at Cobden View. Jack France and Rob Gent netted Hallam’s others, while Mike Walker netted Cobden’s consolation. The early leaders though are City Taxis after a Tom Stubbs hat-trick helped them come from behind to beat fellow newcomers Fox & Hounds Rangers 8-1. Jordan Marshall, Scott Westney, Scott Wellum, Flo Fadiga and Donovan Reid hit Taxis others.

Another newcomer, Laycock Sports, could only take a point at home to Colley Faisal Miladi gave Colley a half time lead and they had several other chances to put the game to bed. Laycocks should have levelled when Steve Morris missed from the penalty spot, but they eventually grabbed a point when Luke Glaves scored from the edge of the area..

KITLOCKER CUP - Phoenix cruise past Steelers, while a lucky break sees Norton Oaks 'B' through at Sharrow Vale -

Josh Aston set up two goals as Phoenix cruised into Round 2 of the League Kitlocker Cup at Steelers. Karl Savage met Aston’s cross with a bullet header to put Phoenix ahead and Karl Howden doubled their lead when he scored his first goal for eleven years after a rampaging run and a one-two with Joe Jackson. Matt Winthrow made it three before the break when he was first to a rebound off the keeper and Kieran Cull’s corner was headed home by Chris Knowles to make it four in the second half. Aston’s through ball allowed Brad Clarke to lob the keeper for Phoenix’s fifth, while Lee Slingsby netted Steelers consolation.

Norton Oaks ‘B’ also went through, but only a very unlucky own goal gave them a narrow 2-1 win at Sharrow Vale. Jamie Marshall put Oaks ahead, but Sharrow hit back to level with a David Primhak strike before half time. It could have gone either way after the break, but it finally went to Oaks when James Siddall turned the ball into his own net when he couldn’t get out of the way of Mark Turton’s cross.

4 September 2014 - DIVISION 1 - Norton make it two wins out of two - Norton Oaks 'A' are Division One's early leaders after making it two wins out of two at home against Ranch. Dale Kay opened the scoring with a header and Danny Reet scored his third goal in two games to double Oaks's lead with barely ten minutes on the clock. It stayed like that until the break and although Ranch gave it a good go in the second half, Robbie Aspinall completed the scoring with Oaks's third when he raced through before toe poking it past the Ranch keeper.

3 September 2014 - Referees for all September now shown - The County FA has now released the referee allocations for all September and the referees allocated to our games are now shown in the Fixtures section. ALL HOME CLUBS SHOULD IMMEDIATELY CONFIRM THEIR GAMES WITH THE REFEREES FOR THE COMPLETE MONTH. Let Keith know if any referees are not available for the dates listed.

31 August 2014 - DIVISION 1 - Reet good start for Norton, while Aston and Ranch take a point each - A first half Danny Reet (left) double set Norton Oaks 'A' on their way to an impressive start with a 5-1 home win against Loxley, while a late Oliver Whittaker goal left Aston Swallownest and Ranch all square.

Oaks took an early foothold with those two Reet strikes, but just before half time Loxley got back into it with an Anthony Marshall penalty. Oaks needn't have worried though as they dominated the second half and after an Alex Hughes header made it 3-1, they added two more with a Dom Jolly poachers finish and a thirty yard screamer by Billy Ireland. It might have been many more though as Oaks twice hit the woodwork and failed to convert a number of chances inside the six yard box.

Aston Swallownest took a first half lead when David Sills latched onto a Billy Evans through ball before chipping the keeper and despite dominating play they missed several good chances to increase their lead. Ranch's new player manager Richard Honeyman changed things round at half time and the introduction of Oliver Whittaker, Shannon Marshland and new signing John Naddin helped them get back into the game and they got their reward when Honeyman crossed for Whittaker to head home the equaliser from twelve yards out.

DIVISION 2 - Oaks Culled by Phoenix, while City Taxis Stubbs out View - A Kieran Cull double helped Phoenix got off to a flying start with a 5-0 win Norton Oaks 'B', while a Tom Stubbs (right) double helped City Taxis start their life in the League off by coming from behind to beat Cobden View.

Phoenix got their season flying when Joe Jackson's pinpoint cross was met by a diving header from Chris Knowles and Jackson marked his debut with a terrific thirty five yard finish to a flowing move to double Phoenix's lead by half time. Cull Made it three after the break with a free kick that the keeper could only stand and admire and Matt Winthrow made it four with a finish under the keeper after a swift break out of defence. Cull completed the scoring with a chip over the keeper that Eric Cantona would have been proud of.

City Taxis got a shock when Paul Griffiths gave visitors Cobden View the lead, but Taxis soon levelled with a Nicky Young header from a corner. Another corner saw new signing Tom Stubbs give Taxis the lead and just before the break Jordan Marshall doubled their lead with a shot from the edge of the area. The second half didn't start well for Taxis when a defender received a red card for a second booking, but they continued to dominate and Joe Lavery made it 4-1 with another header. Tom Stubbs made it 5-1 with his second from the edge of the area before Mike Walker grabbed a second consolation for Cobden.

18 July 2014 - Important notes about pre-season friendly games - If any club intends to play a pre-season friendly against another club affiliated to play on Saturdays, or midweek, you must first gain permission from the Sheffield & Hallamshire County FA before playing the game.

If you are playing a club that is affiliated to play on Sundays you do not need to gain permission from the County FA, but you must make sure they have affiliated to the County FA.

Also, please make sure that any triallist you have playing for you is not currently under any suspensions by the FA.

If you do not follow these procedures and someone gets injured etc, it is likely that any insurance you have will become invalid.

12 July 2014 - 2014-15 Fixture Grid published - The Fixture grid for the 2014-15 season is now published - see below. The following notes need to be taken into account alongside the grid:

Because the fixtures will be subject to change each month to fill the gaps left by teams playing either the ‘Spare’ numbers or cup ties, the grid must therefore be used only as a guide as to when you will be playing at home or away and…

UNTIL YOU ARE NOTIFIED OTHERWISE, YOU SHOULD ASSUME THAT YOU WILL HAVE A GAME EVERY WEEK

you must IMMEDIATELY notify the people who manage your pitch, all the dates you are listed as being at home, even where it currently shows you playing a spare number

Any club wanting to not play on a particular date should give at least 5 weeks notice and they must make the request before the League publishes the fixtures for the month containing the date in question. Clubs should also try to avoid making a request for any cup dates.

IF YOU INTEND TO CHANGE YOUR PITCH AFTER YOU HAVE RECEIVED THIS GRID, YOU MUST CHECK WITH EITHER KEITH OR PAUL HEATH FIRST.

Please also note the following:

LEAGUE CUP

Some Division Two, games listed for 7 September will become League Cup ties - this draw will be made at the August League meeting. This will reduce the number of teams left in the cup to 32, ready for the next round, which will be played on the first Sunday in October.

The fixtures on the first Sunday in October and the first Sunday in November shown will be used as the framework for the League Cup draw, ie teams due to have a home game will go into the home half of the cup draw, teams due to play away will go into the away half of the cup draw. Teams not sharing pitches may be moved from one half of the draw to the other if required.

COUNTY FA CUP

If you are subsequently drawn at home in the County FA Cup on a date you were due to play away, you must notify your ground manager and the team you share your pitch with that you now have a home fixture on that date. If the team you share with is also drawn at home in the County FA Cup and they were already due to be at home, their game will take preference over yours and you will need to get another pitch to play your cup tie. The only exception to that is if you are in the Senior Sunday Cup and they are in the Junior Sunday Cup.

If you are out of the County FA Cup and the team you share with are drawn at home in the County FA Cup on a date you were due to be at home, their game will take preference over any game you might have. This only applies to County FA Cup ties. If this happens, please notify Keith immediately.

The actual fixtures for September will be published in the next few weeks.
