26 Nov 2013 - MACRON CUP - Stocksbridge Park Steels to face Southey Social on Wednesday 4 Dec - The delayed Macron Cup tie between Stocksbridge Park Steels and Southey Social will now be played under floodlights at Stocksbridge Park Steels' Look Local Stadium at Bracken Moor on Wednesday 4 Dec. Entrance will be free to anyone wanting to go along and watch the game. If Stocksbridge win the tie, their quarter final tie with Ecclesfield Players Lounge will take place at Stocksbridge on Sunday 15 December, but if Southey win the tie, their quarter final with Ecclesfield will be scheduled in January.

24 Nov 2013 - CBC PREM - Villa turn the tables upside down as three of the top four are beaten - On his return to the club, Ben Dronfield (pictured right winning the ball at full stretch) was a rock at the centre of the Hemsworth Villa defence as they turned the league tables upside down by coming from behind to claim their first three points of the season and knock Stannington Village off the top. Stannington started quickest and it looked like it would be their day when after just five minutes, Gavin Davis put them ahead with a shot that took a deflection past keeper Dean before going in off the post. Dean then had to make a terrific save and Kev Symington cleared off the line to stop Villa falling further behind.

Villa began to get into the game more and when Craig Foster was brought down just outside the area Sam Britton showed his talent by rifling the free kick past the Stannington keeper to send them in level at the break. With Dronfield marshalling his back four superbly, Stannington found it hard to threaten the Villa goal and for once Villa got the kind of lucky break that has deserted them so far this season when the Stannington keeper mis-kicked his clearance straight to Foster who chipped the ball back over him into the empty net for Villa’s winner. More action from the game is shown below - pictures courtesy of Mick Moat.

Despite a Kevin Davies goal, third place Stocksbridge Park Steels also slipped to a last minute defeat at home to Bulls Head. Bulls Head took the lead when Davies brought Liam Bonnick down in the area to give away a penalty that was put away by by Alan Mowforth, but Davies made amends for his error when he curled home the equaliser from the edge of the area. Mitchell Savage then had chance to put Steels ahead, but it was snuffed out and the scores remained level at the break. Both sides were finding it hard to break the other down and it looked like they would share the points until the final minute when Nick Ash and Mowforth combined to send Lee Smith down the wing and his cross was met by a flying header by Chris Peel to win it for the visitors.

Fourth place Woodhouse Angel also crashed to defeat at the hands of a The Vine side beginning to push themselves into the title race. The Vine took the lead when Matt elliss’s shot could only be parried by Spencer Starkes in the Angel net and Rikki Davidson was first to react to score. Angel responded to level through Chris Towey, but he was later to blot his copybook by seeing red and The Vine reclaimed their lead when man of the match Liam Allott crossed for Ellis to score. Allott was again the provider when his cross was headed home by Craig Woolley to double The Vine’s lead and they almost added another when Danny Seaman’s effort crashed against the bar.

Those three results were music to the ears of Civil Service who took advantage to go to the top of the table with a 4-1 victory over Handsworth Turf. Turf made a lively start and almost went ahead when Tom Crosby’s cross was headed onto the bar by Ty Wilson, but they shot themselves in the foot when a defender turned the ball into his own net to gift Service a half time lead. Service stepped up a gear after the break and Wes Bamford (right) doubled their lead with a twenty yard shot that dipped over the keeper, before Andy Bath made it three from close range. Jimmy Hughes reduced the arrears for Turf after good work by Ryan Taff and Ryan Foster and Carl Bowler both had efforts cleared off the line before Tom Stubbs made the result certain with Service’s fourth.

The Park missed the chance to move into the top three when they let a two goal lead slip in a 2-2 draw at Redmires. The Park led at half time after James Galloway had headed home an Ali Mitchell corner and another Galloway header doubled their lead within three minutes of the restart, but just a minute later Mikey Taylor crossed for Jon Wall to pull one back. Taylor then thought he had beaten the offside trap to level, but the referee ruled otherwise, but Redmires did get the point their gritty performance deserved when Wall found Dave Knaggs in the middle of the penalty area and he made no mistake.

Handsworth Old Boys kept their recent form going though to move into the title race with a 2-0 victory over Ecclesfield Players Lounge. Handsworth made a whirlwind start and after Chris James had given them a fifth minute lead, Dalton Kershaw doubled it soon after. Both teams had golden opportunites to score in the second half as both were awarded penalties, but Craig Senior saw his spot kick saved by Handsworth’s stand-in keeper Liam Shipstone, while James missed his chance to score his second from the spot.

DIV 1 - Oughtibridge beat the leaders to keep winning run going, while late goal saves Norton - Despite Injuries to key players Tom Fletcher and David Sheakey and missing the influential James Baker, Oughtbridge WM kept up there record of winning every league and cup game this season by ending Division One leaders Players Lounge Athletic’s unbeaten record by coming from behind to record a 2-1 victory.

The game started off at a frenetic pace and from the start it was evident it was going to be a game of very few chances. Oughtibridge had the first real chance when a mistake by a Lounge defender allowed Justin Westoby to nip in from the right and although he had Sean Lee free at the far post, Westoby failed to see him and shot tamely at the keeper.

The next chance fell Lounge’s way when Danny Parker put in a dangerous cross and Alex Evison got in front of his marker to meet the cross but sent his header over from close range. Lounge were getting on top at this stage and Chris Adnett produced a superb save to deny Danny Clinton and a scramble in the Oughtibridge area saw Matt Dodd clear off the line to keep the scores level. Oughtibridge skipper Joe Appleyard also made vital headers to thwart more Lounge attacks, but Lounge deservedly got their noses in front when an Oughtibridge defender was caught in possession and Clinton darted inside before firing in a shot that Adnett could only parry and although Danny Parker had plenty to do he forced the ball home at the back post.

Clinton thought he had doubled Lounge’s lead when he turned Parker’s pass home, but referee Alan Streets (right) ruled him offside. Oughtibridge tried to get their passing game going but came up against a determined Lounge back four, but an equaliser almost came when Dan Connolly went charging through the midfield only to lose control at the edge of the box. Strachan Sampson also went close and Callum Hawley hit a free kick straight at Lounge keeper Stefan Peat.  Oughtibridge finally got their reward just before half time when Sampson whipped in a free kick on the right and Appleyard just got enough on it to equalise. Half time 1-1

Oughtibridge showed their attacking intent at the start of the second half by pushing centre half Matt Dodd up front and Justin Westoby to his normal position on the wing and straight away the change started to work as Westoby started to cause problems with his trickery. Sampson and his midfield partner Matthew Cundy (left) began to have more influence on the game as Oughtibridge started to gain the upper hand, but Ashley Donohue was keeping the Lounge back four solid and with their pace up front, Lounge were always dangerous on the break and Oughtibridge keeper Adnett had to make a superb double save from Clinton and Evison’s follow up.

The game looked like heading for a draw until Cundy and Lee linked up in the penalty area and when Cundy was brought down referee Streets pointed to the spot. Makeshift striker Dodd took the responsibility and sent Peat the wrong way to put Oughtibridge in front. Players Lounge tried to respond, but David Buckley won a couple of great headers to keep them at bay and the visitors almost added a third when Sean Lee went through. It wasn’t needed though and Oughtibridge held on for the victory that makes them firm favourites for the Division One title.

While Oughtibridge WM were beating leaders Players Lounge Athletic, Norton Oaks 'A' also dropped points when they needed a last gasp Billy Ireland goal to rescue a point at a Loxley side that gained their first point of the season. Loxley shocked oaks early on when a great move was finished off by Mick Smith and it quickly got worse for Norton when Danny Reet saw red, but the ten men battled back to go in level at the break thanks to a Billy Ireland (left) strike. New signing Danny Abdulla put Loxley back in front after the break, but they were pegged back again by a Scott Stringer goal. With man of the match Tom Storey causing Oaks problems, Loxley looked as if they had won it when Steve Mayfield headed them in front for a third time, but in the final minute of injury time Ireland grabbed yet another equaliser to earn his side a 3-3 draw.

Fox & Hounds made no mistake though to extend their unbeaten run when player/manager Liam Boswell headed the game’s only goal at Anston Athletic with his first touch of the game shortly after coming on as sub ten minutes into the second half. Brinsworth Whitehill also moved back into the promotion race after coming from behind to beat Aston Swallownest. David Sills gave Aston the perfect start, but it was cancelled out by Danny Simpson in the first half before Ross Johnson won it for Brinsworth after the break in a match that referee Pete Selby described as a pleasure to take.

Old Blue Ball’s challenge faltered though as they slipped to a 3-1 defeat at Ranch. Taurean Fogarty volleyed Ranch into the lead from the corner of the penalty area only to see it cancelled out by another long range effort from Christian Rowe. Ranch went back in front when Joe Denby’s free kick was flicked on by Richard Berry for Richard Honeyman to score and although they made hard work of it, they made certain when Tom Hartley was brought down in the area and the referee pointed to the spot. Berry stepped up to take it and his shot hit the post, but player/manager Carl Pearce spared his blushes by being first to the loose ball to score his side’s third.

DIV 2 - Schofield double helps Hounds to end The Pheasant's run, while Glossop treble helps Sharrow to first win - In Division Two, a Jake Schofield (right) double helped leaders Hare & Hounds come from behind to win 3-2 at a The Pheasant side that had yet to drop a point. Joe McKernan volleyed the home side in front after just four minutes, but Hounds’ soon levelled when Schofield met Adam Cawood’s cross with a diving header. Hounds took the lead before the break when the referee saw Sam Rudd’s shirt being pulled in the area and Schofield netted his second from the penalty spot. After the break, Carl Andrews brought The Pheasant level and they pressed for a winner, but with skipper Daz Mitchell holding his side together it was Hounds that looked very dangerous on the break and they took advantage to take all three points when George Rudd charged forward to finish with a thundering shot past the keeper.

Phoenix remain in second place with a well deserved 4-1 win at Colley. Nathan Darwent headed home Matt Edwards corner to give Phoenix the lead, but Colley hit back to level when Brendan Drew closed the keeper down  and the clearance rebounded off him into the empty net. Faisal Miladi twice and Josh Connor once both squandered chances to give Colley the lead before Phoenix went back in front when Daniel Commander finished off another Edwards cross. Commander then pounced for his second after the keeper couldn’t hold a Russ Brown header and Brown completed the scoring after being played in by Brad Hardy.

Crookes & District climbed to third with a 4-2 victory over Chapeltown RBL. Chris Cottyn (left) headed home Lee Wharton’s corner to give Crookes a first minute lead and it was doubled when the keeper could only turn Paul Jackson’s inswinging corner into his own net. Man of the match Wharton made it three before the break and although Ky Ugrader scored two penalties for Chapeltown in the second half they came either side of a penalty scored by Cottyn.

Liam Garrett and Leighton Buck both scored twice and Blake Owen, Sam Wright and Kaiden Simpson one each as Steelers climbed three places to fifth with a 7-0 hammering of Pen Nook, but Intake Old Boys lost ground when they let a two goal lead slip before drawing 2-2 at home to FC Spartak. Tom Gabbitas put Intake ahead and Liam Parnell doubled their lead with a cheeky backheel from Daniel Meadows’ cross, but Spartak fought back to take a point with goals from Stefan Ziga and Jan Sandor.

Norton Oaks ‘B’ also lost more ground as a Nick Glossop treble helped Sharrow Vale to their first win of the season at their expense. Although Tom Wray’s early goal for Sharrow was cancelled out by Jamie Marshall, John Matterson provided the perfect through ball for Glossop to put Sharrow back in front. Matterson then pulled the ball back for Wray to strike his second and Matterson was again the provider for Glossop to hit his second. An own goal gave Oaks a glimmer of hope, but that man Matterson again provided the perfect pass for Glossop to complete his hat-trick to give Sharrow their first win of the season.

Taylor&Emmet JUNIOR SUNDAY CUP - Last 16 draw see two all-Blades Super Draw ties - The draw for the last 16 of the Sunday Junior Cup saw Division One Southey Social drawn at home against Division Two Intake Old Boys, while Fox & Hounds will entertain fellow Division One side Old Blue Ball. Oughtibridge WM will entertain Rose & Crown Darton, while The Pheasant travel to Wath Tel Star. All ties scheduled for Sunday 15 December. There are several other fixture changes caused by Cup ties on 15 Dec - check the Fixtures section for detail.

17 Nov 2013 - Fixtures changes on 1 Dec & 15 Dec - There are a number of fixture changes in December. On 1 December, because Southey and Stocksbridge won't have played their Macron Cup tie by that date, the possible tie between Southey and Ecclesfield PL cannot go ahead so Ecclesfield will now play  a CBC Premier match at Stannington Village. On 15 December, there are changes in both Divisions 1 & 2 due to teams that will still be involved in Round 5 of the Sunday Junior Cup, but all games, including the revised ones, could still be subject to further change after the Round 5 draw is made. Please see the Fixtures section for detail of the changes.

17 Nov 2013 - CBC PREM - Turf eight-en by Service, while The Park complete double over Steels and Joe's the Wright man for Angel - Civil Service stepped up their CBC Premier title challenge as Andy Bath (left) scored twice in an 8-2 victory at Handsworth Turf. Although Ben Shackshaft had scored to draw Turf level by the break, they had Mark Jones dismissed after the break and Service took full advantage. In addition to Bath, Danny Wattam, Wes Bamford, Tom Stubbs, Luke Parwana, Ben Brown and Paul Billard all found the net, making Ryan Foster’s first ever goal for Turf little consolation.

Stocksbridge Park Steels missed their chance to return to the top of the table when a second half Ben Hetherington strike saw The Park complete the double over them and put them firmly back into the title race.Mitchell Savage and Kev Davies both hit the woodwork for Steels and referee Craig Grundy turned down their appeals when Tom Cadzow went down in the area. Davies also had one cleared off the line in injury time, but The Park held on.

Joe Knight gave Ecclesfield Players Lounge the lead at home to a Woodhouse Angel they had beaten in the Macron Cup two weeks ago, but this time Angel hit back and held on to their lead to go home with the points. Angel levelled after the Ecclesfield keeper failed to deal with Dave Kippax’s free kick and Matt Parkes turned to volley home and they won it with a Joe Wright goal.

DIV 1 - Anston get first point, while Players Lounge extend their lead and Norton gain revenge - Anston Athletic climbed off the foot of Division One when they gained their first point of the season at home to Cobden View. Rich Lowery turned the ball into his own goal to gift  Anston the lead, but it was cancelled out by Jamie Simpson. Scott Hyndman then looked like he had won it for Anston until Simpson grabbed his second a minute from time, but the point was enough to lift Anston off the bottom.

Alex Evison scored twice as Players Lounge Athletic came from behind to beat Ranch and extend their lead at the top to three points. Carl Pearce converted Breon Fogarty’s curling cross to put Ranch ahead, but just before the break Danny Parker’s cross headed home by Evison to level. After the break another Parker cross was met by a glancing header by Evison to put Lounge ahead and despite David Ibbotson seeing two yellows, they clinched it with a Danny Clinton lob over the keeper.

Norton Oaks 'A' went second as Robbie Aspinall scored twice in a 5-0 victory over a Brinsworth Whitehill side that had beaten them just a week earlier. Danny Reet gave Oaks a half time lead and Billy Ireland extended it after the break, but they weren’t having it all their own way as Brinsworth hit the woodwork three times. Any thoughts of a comeback were squashed though when Coel Fulton grabbed Norton’s third before Aspinall headed a fourth and chipped a fifth.

DIV 2 - Primak strike points the way for Sharrow and a Connor treble lifts Colley, while Hare & Hounds get early Xmas present - In Division Two, in a real see-saw game, David Primak's late goal at Chapeltown RBL gave Sharrow Vale a repeat of their 4-4 draw of last season and their first point of the season. Neil Oldrey gave Sharrow an early lead, but it was cancelled out by Liam Gibson before Ky ugrader hit one from thirty five yards to put Chapeltown in front. Richard Cooper then turned and finished to bring Sharrow level and they went back in front with a Matterson strike. The second half saw a calamitous own goal gift Chapeltown an equaliser and despite having Ben Palmer dismissed, they looked to have won iyt with a Sam walch goal, but Sharrow had the final say when Primak headed home.

A Josh Connor treble helped Colley to a surprise 4-2 win at Steelers. Connor met Ian Sharland’s free kick at the back post to put Colley ahead and although Liam Garrett levelled for Steelers Colley went into the break ahead after Brendan Drew carved out the chance for Connor’s second. The second half saw Connor complete his hat-trick from the penalty spot and Drew netted their fourth before Sam Wright pulled a lae goal back for Steelers.

Leaders Hare & Hounds received a very early Xmas present when the Crookes & district keeper palmed the ball into his own net after just fifty seconds. It turned out to be the game’s only goal thanks to some stout defending by Hounds duo Richard Brailey and John Ledger and a terrific save by keeper Ewen Laycick.

Phoenix are just a point behind them though after a Nicky Shaw double helped them to victory in a ten goal thriller with Norton Oaks 'B'.Josh Aston took advantage of a fumble by the keeper to give Phoenix the lead and although Shaw netted his first and Dan Commander scored their third, goals by Josh Stafford and Jamie Marshall meant Phoenix only had a narrow 3-2 lead at the interval. After the break Shaw netted his second, Nathan Darwent headed their fifth and Matt Edwards scored a sixth from thirty yards, but two Ian Bruce goals kept Norton in the game until the end.

Taylor&Emmet JUNIOR SUNDAY CUP - Thornton's treble is sweet news  for Ball as Loxley is the only faller - to Southey - The Blades Super Draw League will make up six of the last sixteen clubs in the Taylor&Emmet Sunday Junior Cup as only Loxley went out after losing their all-Blades Super Draw tie at Southey Social. Two from Chris Roberts and one from Danny Lindley looked to have put Southey in complete control, but it looked like Loxley would go on to win it when they levelled with two Jon Rhodes goals either side of one from Steve Mayfield. Southey gathered themselves and nicked it with a Todd Guest strike.

After Jake Rodley had given Old Blue Ball an early lead at Waverley Village, Tom Thornton added two more either side of half time. He then missed a penalty, but after the home side had pulled one back, Thornton did complete his hat-trick with a header. The home side then pulled a second goal back, but two in two minutes from Callum Chambers and a seventh from Tom Goodison gave Ball a 7-2 victory.

Division One Oughtibridge WM kept their perfect record for the season going with a 3-1 victory over Thrybergh Top Club. Justin Westoby (right) gave Oughtibridge the lead from just outside the penalty area and although the visitors briefly levelled Westoby went down the line before crossing for Strachan Sampson to score at the second attempt and restore Oughtibridge’s lead before half time. Oughtibridge stayed in control after the break and made the result save when Sampson played Sean Lee through for him to chip the keeper.

Fox & Hounds maintained their unbeaten record with an impressive 5-1 win at Manton Club. Matt Jebson, Ryan Smith and a deflected shot from Gary West gave Fox a three goal lead before the home side replied, but another from Smith and a thunderbolt from Jack Watson was Fox comfortably through.

Brothers Carl and Shane Andrews took their combined goals tally in the competition to twenty four with two each as Division Two The Pheasant thrashed Athersley Athletic 7-0. Dylan Parrott headed them in front before Ryan Gray’s through ball put Shane Andrews in for his first. Shane then crossed for Carl to smash home his first and after the break Shane beat the offside trap to net his second. With Scott Bingley outstanding, Andy Dawson added a fifth direct from a corner and Lee Gillott headed a sixth, before Carl Andrews took a forty yard pass from Dawson before lobbing the keeper for his second.

Despite falling behind early on, another Division Two side through is Intake Old Boys after a 3-2 victory over a very good Conisbrough Conyers outfit. Louie Axcell crossed for Bobby Howard to head the equaliser and Howard added a second to put Intake ahead. Conisbrough hit back to level and it looked like they would win it when John Higgins received his second yellow card, but Intake held firm and went through when Axcell set Liam Parnell up to hit the winner.

Taylor&Emmet SENIOR SUNDAY CUP - Handsworth give it their all but all four bow out - All our four of our remaining teams bowed out of the Senior Cup, with Handsworth Old Boys going closest to making progress with extra time needed to finally put them out at Brunsmeer Bradway

Handsworth Old Boys went closest to making progress in the Taylor&Emmet Sunday Senior Cup with extra time needed to finally put them out at Brunsmeer Bradway. A lively start from both sides saw Brunsmeer take the lead on 14 minutes and although Handsworth came back into the game with good chances for Mario Esposito, Carter Mupwaya and Paul Turner, the home side led at the interval. Handsworth continued their pressure after the break and a quick move saw Mario Espisito played through to equalise. This gave Handsworth momentum and on five minutes later they took the lead when a corner was only cleared to the edge of the area and when the ball was played back in, Phil Nshindano, despite being laid on the floor, hooked the ball into the net - see picture right

Brunsmeer stepped it up a gear and could have equalised on several occasions with two chances being headed off the line by Dale Moore and Danny Moore. They looked certain to level when they were awarded a penalty, but although it was firmly struck it was superbly saved by James Abramski – his third consecutive penalty save. With Brunsmeer pushing further men forward in search of an equaliser it gave Handsworth chances to counter-attack on the break, but Brunsmeer finally got their equaliser after Handsworth failed to clear their lines properly and the game went to extra time.

Brunsmeer started the extra time lively capitalising on slack defending to take the lead on 92 minutes before doubling their lead two minutes later. Handsworth rallied and could have been awarded a penalty but from the resulting clearance Brunsmeer broke away and added a fifth. Still not finished Handsworth came back into it with a smart move which left Paul Turner to fire low into the corner, but the game was put beyond Handsworth with a final goal to Brunsmeer five minutes from the end. More action from the game is below:

Bulls Head gave it a good go at Doncaster side Toll Bar, but despite goals from Liam Bonnick and Chris Peel they went out to a narrow 3-2 defeat. Dave Knaggs gave Redmires the lead against Meadowhall Premier leaders Rawson Spring, but their visitors hit back to lead 3-1. Jon Wall should have put Redmires back in the game when they were awarded a penalty but he failed to beat the keeper and the visitors went on to open up a 5-1 lead before another from Knaggs and one from Joe Keighley gave Redmires hope. It was short lived though as the visitors added two more to win 7-3. Stannington Village had their chances against one of the favourites AFP, but their visitors showed them how to take their chances and ran out 5-0 winners.

13 Nov 2013 - Referees for Sunday 17 Nov - The referees for Sunday 17 November are now shown in the fixtures section of the website. All home teams must confirm the detail of their games to the appointed referees.

10 Nov 2013 - MACRON CUP - Fletcher slices through Bulls Head - The biggest shock of Round Three of the Macron Cup came in the delayed tie at Oughtibridge WM where four Tom Fletcher (left) strikes ensured the Division One side sent CBC Premier Bulls Head packing. Oughtibridge went on the attack right from the start and Sean Lee had a ‘goal’ disallowed after just five minutes. He then hit the bar soon after, but when Fletcher set him up it was third time lucky as he put Oughtibridge ahead. Bulls Head quickly responded and levelled through Nick Ash, but they went behind again when Justin Westoby squared the ball for Fletcher to score his first. The lead was doubled when Lee became the provider with a cross for Fletcher to head home and Fletcher then completed his hat-trick when he found himself one-on-one with the keeper. The rout was completed when Aaron Lamb set Fletcher up to volley his fourth.

CBC PREM - Stannington hit back to go top - A Bill Green (right) strike saw Stannington Village come from behind to win at Handsworth Old Boys and go top of the CBC Premier. Handsworth were first to show and it was no surprise when Paul Turner put them ahead. They had other chances to add to it after that, but Stannington also had their chances in the first half. After a few strong words from manager Pete Fidler, Stannington levelled within two minutes of the re-start. James Abramski in the Handsworth goal made a terrific stop to deny Jack Mylnek, but the ball fell to Gavin Davis who drilled the ball through a crowded box and into the corner of the net.

Stannington now had the upper hand and it looked as if they would go ahead when referee Pete Henger awarded them a penalty, but Abramski made a terrific save from Dean Jepson’s spot kick. Abramski then made three more saves to keep Handsworth level, but he was finally beaten when Bill Green won the ball in midfield before advancing and smashing the ball into the top corner form twenty five yards. Handsworth responded and Chisanga Nshindano shot over when well placed, but the Stannington defence held firm. More action from the game is below:

Civil Service could have gone second with victory over The Park and it looked good when Luke Parwana and Ben Brown combined to set Paul Billard up to give Service the lead, but it didn’t last long as a handball by Gareth Griffiths in the area allowed Mark Townsend to level from the penalty spot. The Park took the lead early in the second half when Adi Tomlin fired low past Carl Whitby and it looked as if Service would suffer their first home defeat until Andy Bath put Danny Wattam through and he sidestepped keeper Sam Kirk before equalising to rescue a point.

Redmires looked to be on their way to their first win of the season when new signing Nat Foster and Nick Hickson both finished off set pieces to give them a two goal lead at home against Ecclesfield Players Lounge, but the visitors came roaring back and were level at the break thanks to Scott Whittington and Gavin Hunter strikes. Ecclesfield quickly took the lead after the break when Matt Clarke headed a corner home and they extended it when sub Joe Knight scored with his first touch when he headed home at the back post.. Foster scored his second of the game from the penalty spot to give Redmires hope, but Ryan Keeney made the points safe for Ecclesfield when he spotted keeper Karl taylor off his line and chipped in from thirty yards.

DIV 1 - Mellor makes Anston pay the penalty and Joe is Taylor made for Cobden, but Players Lounge go top - Division One also has new leaders after a Danny Clinton double helped Players Lounge Athletic to a 4-0 victory over Aston Swallownest and top spot. Although Aston had to start the game with just ten men, they looked as if they would go into the break level, but just three mins before half time Clinton scored his first. Clinton then quickly added a second and they remarkably went into the break with a three goal lead thanks to an Alex Evison strike. Aston continued to defy them in the second half and conceded just one more from Danny Parker.

Norton Oaks ‘A’ could have stayed gone level with them, but they fell behind at Brinsworth Whitehill when David Connolly took advantage of a mistake by the Oaks’ keeper. Brinsworth’s Ryan Watson was in commanding form at the heart defence, but he still found time to take advantage of any mistake by the Oaks keeper to double his side’s lead. Norton kept plugging away to get back into the game, but when Danny Reet followed up to score after Billy Ireland’s shot had been saved it was too late to get another.

Cobden View fell behind to a Tim Pitt penalty at home to Loxley, but that was as good as it got for Loxley as they were behind at the break thanks to goals from Dan Skidmore and Joe Taylor. After the break, Mark Hoyle added a third, before two more from Taylor and two from Jamie Simpson saw Cobden go 7-1, leaving Steve Mayfield’s late header for Loxley little consolation. Fox & Hounds continue to remain unbeaten despite falling behind to a Connor Brunt penalty for Ranch after Tom Hartley had been brought down. Fox hit back after the break and kept their record going with a Richard Firth equaliser.

The biggest drama came at Anston Athletic where a John Mellor (right) hat-trick, all from the penalty spot, helped Southey Social come from behind three times to gain their first win of the season. Anston took the lead when Danny Gribben finished off a quick break from defence, but a foul on Mellor allowed him to score his first penalty to level. Ben Green restored Anston’s lead after the break, but a foul on Rob Womack was punished with Mellor’s second penalty. Adam Fleetwood thundered home a thirty yard free kick to put Anston in front a third time and it looked like they would take the points until deep into injury time Mellor and Danny Lindley combined for Joel Askham to level a third time. Anston gave the ball away straight from the kick-off and when Mellor was again brought down in the area he picked himself up to score his third penalty and the winner with the last kick of the game.

DIV 2 - Connor strike holds leaders, while Crookes rise is arrested and Ziga stuns Norton- Division Two leaders Hare & Hounds had to settle for a point after letting a two goal lead slip at Colley. David Mitchell headed Jake Schofield’s free kick home to give Hounds the lead and they doubled it when a quick break saw George Rudd put Ross Eckhardt one on one with the keeper before scoring. Colley were given a lifeline before the break when Drew Pearson was adjudged to have handled the ball and Ian Sharland scored from the spot and that gave Colley the platform to level after half time with a Josh Connor (left) strike. Both sides had chances to win it after that with Carl Lomas making a terrific save in the Colley goal before Sharland was denied a winner by the woodwork.

Crookes started the day in second place but found themselves blasted aside by an Intake Old Boys that had seven different scorers. John Higgins left the Crookes defence snookered for Intake’s first and although it was cancelled out by Paul Jackson, a Liam Parnell goal put Intake back in front. Johnnie Butler drew Crookes level a second time until Daniel Nelson became Intake’s third scorer and he was soon followed by a fourth in Bobby Howard. Louise Axcell became scorer number five for Intake before Rob Acheson scored Crokkes’ third, but a second goal for Parnell was followed by one from Intake’s sixth scorer Tom Hall and after Nelson added his second, Tom Gabbitas became Intake’s seventh scorer to leave a final score of 9-3.

The Pheasant conceded a goal for the first time, but still maintained their perfect record with a 4-1 victory over Steelers. Carl Andrews headed a corner home to put The Pheasant ahead and the lead was doubled when Dylan Parrott scored from the spot after he had been adjudged to have been brought down in the area. David Fox became the first player to penetrate The Pheasant’s defence to put Steelers back into the game, but the home side’s two goal lead was restored before the break when Shane Andrews tapped in after Matt Turner’s shot had been saved. After the break, Blake Owen almost grabbed a second for Steelers when he hit the bar, but with Andy Dawson outstanding for the home side they held firm and added a fourth when Carl Andrews took advantage of a hashed clearance by the Steelers keeper.

Phoenix also took full points with a 3-0 win at Sharrow Vale. Liam Brookfield gave Phoenix a half time lead with a terrific solo goal and although Sharrow hit the bar soon after the break it was Phoenix that increased their lead when Joe Howarth headed home a Kieran Cull corner. Matt Edwards completed the scoring when he scored direct from a corner. Norton Oak's 'B's promotion drive though was blown away as Stefan Ziga scored a hat-trick in FC Spartak's biggest win of the season. Jan Horvath, Roman Pech and Anton Sebest added Spartak’s others, while Mark Turton netted Norton’s only consolation.

3 Nov 2013 - MACRON CUP - Senior and Davidson trebles keep Ecclesfield and The Vine on course for a Lane visit - Although most cup games went to form, Craig Senior's (left) treble helped Ecclesfield Players Lounge overcome Woodhouse Angel in a ten goal thriller, while third bottom Southey Social beat second place Norton Oaks 'A' in the all-Division One tie. Division Two The Pheasant gave CBC Premier The Park a real fight before going down in an eleven goal thriller and the Leagues bottom club Sharrow Vale kept their CBC Premier opponents Redmires out for over an hour before going out. The other Division Two side Phoenix also fell to CBC Premier opponents in Civil Service. Handsworth Old Boys won the all-CBC Premier tie with Hemsworth Villa and a Rikki Davidson treble helped The Vine finally overcome the stubborn Division One side Brinsworth Whitehill.

Ecclesfield, with a strong wind at their backs started the brighter and although they were finding the Angel defence a hard nut to crack, Scott Whittington wasted a good chance before Gavin Hunter missed an even better one when, with the goal at his mercy, he sidefooted wide from eight yards. Both sides looked to get the ball down and play in tough conditions and Angel’s skipper Gareth Simons (right) narrowly missed with a sweetly taken right foot volley after excellent work and cross from Matt Parks out wide on the right.

It looked like Angel’s superb defensive performance would see them heading  into the break level, but just before the break, Whittington managed to get onto the end of a long clearance from keeper Scott Touhey and turn the ball beyond Angel keeper Spencer Starkes to give Ecclesfield the lead.

The second half started with Angel determined to take advantage of the strong wind now at their disposal, but it was Ecclesfield that looked more likely to score and after leading scorer Craig Senior shot straight at the keeper and Danny Touhey had shot over when well placed, they doubled their lead when Senior produced a left foot finish to a slide rule pass between Angel’s defence.

Angel re-grouped and started to gain the upper hand with man of the match Simons the main architect of their best work. Simons eventually got his reward when he reduced the deficit with a left foot strike into the bottom left hand corner after his initial strike had been blocked.

Although Whittington shot over when well placed to restore Ecclesfield’s two goal advantage, Angel continued to pile forward in search of an equaliser and it came after an excellent run by Angel’s flying winger Kirk Briddon was ended by a clumsy tackle in the penalty area by Ecclesfield’s left back, Matt Clarke. Simons stepped up to score his second of the game, coolly sending the Touhey the wrong way.

Angel were now in the ascendancy, but Ecclesfield were always dangerous on the break and they went back in front when their man of the match Senior left the Angel defence claiming offside to produce another smart left foot finish.  The Angel pressed the self-destruct button as left winger Kirk Smith’s complaints that Senior was offside went too far for referee James Bell and Smith was dismissed, leaving his side’s already thin squad to struggle on with ten men.

If Ecclesfield thought it would be easier now they were shook rigid as an even more galvanised Angel re-grouped and took the game to the home side. Angel’s never say die attitude gained it’s reward when leading scorer Matt Parks out-muscled the Ecclesfield defence to draw his side level and it looked like Angel would get an unlikely win against the odds when they took the lead with just a few minutes remaining. Nick Hague won the ball off Senior, before feeding the hardworking Andy Lee, who in turn fed Simons and his excellent through ball gave Parks the chance to fire home in an unstoppable bullet of a shot into the top left corner from thirty yards.

With injury time looming, Angel pulled centre forward Parks back into defence with the aim of seeing the game out and this allowed Ecclesfield the majority of possession, but it appeared to be coming to nothing until another through ball saw Senior narrowly beat the offside trap and he made no mistake to complete his hat-trick. Extra time seemed certain, but Angel’s ten men were tiring fast and another swift Ecclesfield attack left Hunter with the sort of chance he rarely misses and Ecclesfield were ahead

A shell shocked Angel side then committed men forward in search of an equaliser in the dying moments of the game – only for Ecclesfield to again show the advantage of their fresher legs and their pace on the counter attack which saw Whittington net his second after another very close offside decision. On another day the game might well have finished 4-3 in Angel’s favour, but they had played their part in an exciting tie played in good spirits by two sides with good pedigree in the League Cup.

Another treble, from Rikki Davidson (right), helped The Vine finally overcome a stubborn Division One Brinsworth Whitehill 5-2. The Vine went ahead when Davidson’s speculative twenty five yard shot slipped through the fingers of the Brinsworth keeper and into the net, but the Division One side fought back and levelled with a Dave Connolly strike. The Vine went into the break in front though after Davidson scored from the spot after he had been brought down in the area. The second half saw Brinsworth level a second time with a Ross Johnson goal, but Davidson struck again when he was played in by Liam Allott to put The Vine ahead a third time. There was no way back for the visitors this time as Davidson set Matt Ellis to score a fourth before Ellis grabbed his second from a Danny Seaman cross.

The nearest thing to a shock came from the all Division One tie at Southey Social where the third bottom home side beat second place Norton Oaks 'A'. Jack Moorhouse chipped the keeper to give Norton the lead and despite Danny Lindley (left) levelling for Southey with a left foot shot, he then missed a sitter before Norton re-took the lead with a Danny Reet penalty. After the break Southey took control and levelled with a Danny Ferguson strike, before Chris Roberts set Lindley up to score his second and put Southey in front. Their place in the next quarter finals was assured when Lindley, Roberts and Rob Womack combined to set John Mellor up to score their fourth.

Division Two tile favourites The Pheasant gave CBC Premier The Park a real fight before going down in an eleven goal thriller. The Park were quickly out of their blocks and got the early boost of a goal direct from an Ali Mitchell corner. This was soon followed by a Mark Townsend (right) goal when he picked up the pieces after Calvin Thomas’s shot had been blocked and a third and fourth quickly followed from Jack Ridge and Ryan Campbell. The Pheasant finally got their act together and pulled one back when Lee Gillott headed home a long throw and they reduced the deficit still further before the break when Lewis Fothergill set Craig Mahwood up to score.

The second half started with Fothergill sliding home The Pheasant’s third and a shock now looked a distinct possibility, but in committing men forward they always looked vulnerable to a counter attack and Ali Mitchell took advantage to put The Park back in control. Townsend then struck his second of the game to extend The Park’s lead, but The Pheasant hit back when Mahwood beat the keeper to a through ball and lobbed a defender on the line. Any thoughts of another comeback were quickly quashed though when Thomas ran onto a long clearance by his keeper to score The Park’s seventh.

The Leagues bottom club Sharrow Vale went out at Redmires, but it wasn’t all plain sailing for the CBC Premier side as Vale, with the help of a terrific goalkeeping display, kept their hosts at bay for over an hour. Jon Wall finally broke the deadlock and then quickly added a second. Dale White made it three as the Division Two side tired and Dave Knaggs added a fourth at the end, but Sharrow can hold their heads high after never giving up trying to play good football against their highly rated hosts.

Division Two’s interest in the cup was finally extinguished with Phoenix going down to a 4-1 defeat CBC Premier and former holders Civil Service. Service keeper Carl Whitby was forced to make an early save at full stretch, but his side then took the lead when Andy Bath headed home a Gavin Wills. It was doubled before the break when skipper Ben Brown hit a stunner from twenty five yards and Service extended it further in the second half when Bath was floored in the area and Gavin Wills scored his seventh penalty of the season. Jake Slaughter deservedly pulled one back for Phoenix, but Service made certain when Luke Parwana met Chris Fowler’s cross to net their fourth.

Handsworth Old Boys won the other all-CBC Premier tie with Hemsworth Villa 3-1, a scoreline that would have been much larger had it not been for a superb display by Villa keeper James Dean. Chris James and Mario Esposito strikes gave Handsworth a two goal lead, but Villa got back into it on the stroke of half time when Sam Britton headed home from a corner. The second half started with James Ireland missing the chance to level for Villa by shooting wide when well placed, but Dean then performed heroics to save at point blank range. Then, as Handsworth stepped up the pressure, Dean conceded a penalty, but he redeemed himself with a terrific save. He was finally beaten a third time though by Carter Mupwaya (see first left below). More action is also shown below.

3 Nov 2013 - MACRON CUP - Quarter Final Draw - The draw for the Macron Cup Quarter Finals could see four all-CBC Premier ties. The full draw is: Redmires v Oughtibridge WM or Bulls Head, Southey Social or Stocksbridge Park Steels v Ecclesfield Players Lounge; The Park v Handsworth Old Boys; The Vine v Civil Service. All ties to be played on 1 Dec, except if Stocksbridge Park Steels beat Southey Social in their delayed Round 3 tie, Stocksbridge will face Ecclesfield on 15 December.

DIV 1 - Reece leaves it late to lift Ball - A Reece McLandless strike late on saw Old Blue Ball beat Ranch to go joint second.

DIV 2 - Late Gibson strike sees Chapeltown put Norton promotion hopes on hold in ten goal thriller - There were plenty of goals in Division Two where promotion chasing Norton Oaks ‘B’ lost the lead three times before having to settle for a share of the points and ten goals. Oaks took the lead when Josh Stafford headed home the rebound after Mark Turton’s header had crashed against the bar and they doubled it before the break when James Lockhart raced onto Otis Thorn’s diagonal ball and beat two defenders before scoring. Chapeltown started the second half by pulling one back when Sam Walch headed home at the back post and they soon levelled with a Ky Ugrader strike.

Oaks quickly regained the lead when Oliver West squared the ball for Steve Reynalds to tap in and they looked to be back in control when Reynalds scored his second from the penalty spot after West had been felled in the area. Chapeltown keeper Sean Crothers was working miracles to keep his side in the game and his work was rewarded when Walch and Ugrader both scored their second goals to bring Chapeltown level again. With time almost up it looked as if Norton would take all three points when Turton was first to the loose ball after Reynalds’ shot had been saved, but Chapeltown shocked them when sub Liam Gibson stole in to grab another deserved equaliser at the death to leave the final score at 5-5.

Despite falling behind to an own goal, Steelers made no further mistakes and boosted their promotion bid with a 3-1 victory over Pen Nook. Liam Garrett levelled before Liam Wright put them in front and although Nook gave almost as good as they got they conceded a third when Mark Titman put through his own goal.

Colley also came from behind to beat FC Spartak 2-1 and boost their hopes of getting into the promotion race. Jan Horvath gave Spartak a half time lead, but Richie Whitworth’s stunning twenty five yard free kick levelled it up after the break and Colley took all three points when Brendan Drew (left) tapped in after Neil Whitworth’s bullet header came back off the keeper.
