29 Sept 2013 - CBC PREM - Todd rescues Steels, but Bull loses its Head - CBC Premier leaders Stocksbridge Park Steels conceded their first goal of the season and dropped their first points of the season when they needed an Adam Todd goal to cancel out Chris Towey's (left) earlier strike for a Woodhouse Angel level on points in second place. Towey met a free kick to head Angel into a first half lead and both Matt Parkes and Gareth Simons had chances to increase their lead, but Steels levelled it up after the break when Mitchell Savage’s cross was headed back by Scott Birch and Todd applied the finish. Both sides had chances after that with Steels keeper Stephen Marshall making a great save near the end, while Birch chipped over when well placed.

Up to third is Stannington Village after Gavin Davis (right) marked his debut for them with a hat-trick along with a hat-trick by Jack Mylnek in a 7-0 win at Ecclesfield Players Lounge. Davis got things started with a twenty yard strike and he doubled the lead before the break when he beat two defenders before stroking it past the keeper. Davis made it three soon after the break when he nicked the ball off a defender to score. Mylnek then took over with a calm finish, a penalty and a twenty yard strike for a quick fire hat-trick, before Sean Flynn completed the rout from twenty yards.

Fourth is The Vine after Matt Ellis and Liam Allott doubles helped them to victory over Handsworth Turf. Rikki Davidson beat three defenders before laying on a plate for Allott’s first, but Turf were level by the break after Shaun Blythe handled in the area and Perry Jackson fired home the penalty. After the break Blythe gave away a second penalty that was again dispatched by Jackson to put Turf in front, but The Vine levelled when Davidson again provided the opening for Ellis to tap in. Allott then slid in to put The Vine back in front and Ellis grabbed his second after playing a one-two with Allott. Brandon Greaves almost made it five when he hit the bar, but it soon came when Andrew Drummond’s pass put Davidson through for his first of the season.

Bulls Head could have gone top, but they suffered their first defeat of the season to a rampant Civil Service. Gavin Wills gave Service the lead after just four minutes before man-of-the-match Paul Billard doubled it. Danny Wattam grabbed Service’s third leaving no way back for Bull even though Nick Ash pulled one back for them when he met Liam Bonnick’s pass.

Handsworth Old Boys scored their second win in eight days when they beat Hemsworth Villa 3-0. Goals from Carter Mupwaya and Phil Nshindano had them two up by the break and Dale Moore made it three in the second half, while it would have been many more had it not been for an inspired performance by Villa keeper James Dean, including a penalty save.

Ali Mitchell and Ryan Campbell doubles saw The Park just pip Redmires in a nine goal thriller. Mark Townsend gave The Park the lead and although it was cancelled out by Jon Wall, a quick fire double by Mitchell put The Park 3-1 in front. Wall scored his second to reduce the arrears, but Campbell restored The Park’s two goal lead just before the break. Redmires came out all guns blazing after half time and Nick Hickson and Dave Knaggs goals had them level, but with just four minutes remaining Campbell stole all three points for The Park with his second of the game.

DIV 1 - Oughtibridge leave it late to stay top, while Norton get Reet back on track - Division One leaders Oughtibridge WM looked to be on their way to a first defeat of the season until three goals in the last ten minutes gave them victory at previously unbeaten Old Blue Ball. A tight first half stayed goalless, but Marc Peacock broke the deadlock after the break when he found the bottom corner. It looked like it was going to be the winner until Strachan Sampson carved an opening for Justin Westoby (left) to level. Westoby then turned provider when he found David Shaekey at the back post to allow him to put Oughtibridge in front and they sealed the victory when James Baker put Tom Fletcher in for him to lob the keeper for their third.

Second place Players Lounge Athletic also had to come from behind to win at Anston Athletic. Jamie Ward gave Anston the lead, but they were then reduced to ten men and Lounge took full advantage. Antony Holmes cross was turned into his own net by a defender and another Holmes cross was headed home by Brett Gardner to give Lounge the lead. Danny Marcus made it three with his first of the season, but the ten men stood firm after that.

Fox & Hounds maintained their good start when a single Glenn Greene goal gave them victory over previously unbeaten Aston Swallownest. The winner came after just ten minutes when Greene’s shot found the net off the underside of the bar, but Fox were just as grateful to debutant keeper Chris Brown who made sure that Aston’s record of never winning at Winn Gardens remained.

After two successive defeats Norton Oaks 'A' got back on the Reet track as two Danny Reet goals helped them come from a goal down to win at Southey Social. Coel Fulton put Oaks ahead early on, but a Danny Lindley chip and a John Mellor penalty soon had Southey in front. Reet fired a shot in hard and low to level before the interval and he scored the winner in the second half when his feet were too quick for the defenders.

After Ben Hartley had given Ranch an early lead, they also had to come from behind to win at Cobden View. Paul Griffiths levelled it up with a shot from a tight angle, before Mike Walker curled home a beauty from twenty five yards to put View in front at half time. Ranch manager Carl Pearce range the changes in tactics at half time and his plans worked a treat as Connor Brunt levelled before Sam Chatterton headed them in front from Tom Hartley’s cross. Tom Hartley (right) then made it save with Ranch’s fourth

Danny Willis and Ross Johnson doubles helped Brinsworth Whitehill to victory at Loxley. Willis put Brinsworth ahead with a free kick before Johnson grabbed his first and with Lewis Watson and Liam Favell dominating midfield a third came before the break when Willis scored his second. Loxley got themselves back into the game as first Geoff Mayfield, then Piers Bond both scored and with Mick Smith running amok in the Brinsworth defence they looked odds on to get an equaliser, but it was Brinsworth that completed the scoring when Favell set up Johnson for his second of the game.

DIV 2 - The Pheasant go top after Phoenix falls to Spartak- Lee Gillott set The Pheasant on their way to victory at Chapeltown RBL and the top of Division Two as a Jan Horvath double helped FC Spartak to a surprise win over previous leaders Phoenix. Despite The Pheasant hitting the woodwork four times, with centre half Jack O’Neil outstanding Chapeltown held firm in the first half, but Gillott broke the deadlock with a header midway through the second half and ten minutes later a Carl Andrews penalty made the points safe for The Pheasant.

A George Rudd (left) treble helped Hare & Hounds to a 4-2 victory over Pen Nook and second place. Although Rudd’s opener was cancelled out by Paul Randall, Rudd soon had the Hounds back in front and they looked to be racing away when RobTroughton netted their third before half time. Pen Nook got themselves back into the game when Joe Kangley scored from the spot, but Hounds finally settled it when Adam Cawood headed the ball down for Rudd to complete his hat-trick.

Norton Oaks 'B' are still unbeaten after ending their run of draws with a 3-2 victory at Steelers. Blake Owen put Steelers ahead, but his namesake Joe Owen cancelled it out and Oaks took the lead when Oli West set up Steve Reynalds for a clinical finish. Reynalds then returned the favour for West to score Oaks’ third and even though Owen grabbed his second for Steelers, Oaks held on.

Tom Hall's cool finish sent Intake Old Boys on their way to a 4-0 victory over Colley. Daniel Nelson chipped Intake’s second before half time after Liam Parnell’s shot came back off the post and they increased it after the break with John Reader’s bullet header from a Parnell corner. Bobby Howard saved the best while last by starting and finishing a great solo run through a static Colley defence.

After Matt Jordan had taken advantage of a fluffed clearance by the keeper to give Sharrow Vale the lead, man-of-the-match Gareth Morley levelled to put Crookes & District on their way to their first win of the season in a seven goal thriller. Chris Cottyn (right) headed Crookes in front and Mike Cowen extended their lead before half time. Ivan Merrill pulled one back soon after the break only to see Mike Dobson restore Crookes’ two goal advantage. Tom Wray marked his return from injury to grab a third for Sharrow, but try as they may they couldn’t force an equaliser.

22 Sept 2013 - October Fixtures and referees now listed - see Latest Fixtures - The October fixtures are now shown in the Fixtures section. All clubs must confirm all their home games with their opponents and referees immediately.

22 Sept 2013 - CBC PREM - Ellis double sees The Vine tangle up the champions, while Steels & Bull win again - A Matt Ellis double saw The Vine end Stannington Village's unbeaten home run stretching back over two seasons, while an Alan Mowforth treble saw Bulls Head win a seven goal thriller against The Park, but still top of the pile is Stocksbridge Park Steels who had Jack Outhwaite and Scott Birch doubles in a victory over Civil Service and Steels are yet to concede a goal this season. Level on points with the top two is Woodhouse Angel after Gareth Simons winning penalty against Redmires, while a Tangy Nshindano (left) double say Old Boys come back from two down to win the Handsworth derby at Turf and Ecclesfield Players Lounge came from behind to get their first win of the season at Hemsworth Villa.

After their Merit Cup victory in midweek, it didn’t go so well for Handsworth Turf in the CBC Premier last weekend when they let a two goal slip before losing to their closest rivals Handsworth Old Boys and it was one of their former players ‘Tangy’ Nshidano that did the most damage. Perry Jackson set up Carl Eaton for him to give Turf the lead and when Ryan Taff was brought down by the Old Boys keeper Jackson stepped up to send the keeper the wrong way from the penalty spot to make it 2-0 after just ten minutes. The Old Boys comeback started with Paul Turner hammering home a free kick, Nshindano had them level by half time and he hit the winner midway through the second half.

The day’s biggest shock came at Stannington Village where two Matt Ellis strikes helped The Vine end Village's two year unbeaten home record. Although Stannington hit the woodwork three times in the first half it stayed goalless. After the break The Vine took the lead when Ellis headed home a Liam Allot cross, but it was cancelled out when Dean Jepson headed Lee Johnstone’s cross home. With new keeper Brandon Greaves in good form The Vine continued to defy the champions and they ended that record when Jon Warburton and Will Blakeney combined to set Ellis up for his second and the winner.

Stocksbridge Park Steels had Jack Outhwaite and Scott Birch (scoring right) doubles in a 4-0 victory over Civil Service that kept them at the top and maintained their record of not dropping a point or conceding a goal this season. Steels keeper Stephen Marshall made a great save from Luke Parwana to stop Service from taking the lead and Steels took advantage when Oughthwaite raced onto Adam Todd’s through ball to open the scoring. A John Beggs through ball carved the Service defence open for Birch to double Steels’ lead before half time and Birch made it three after the break after more good work from Todd before Oughthwaite completed the scoring by heading home Richard Gills cross.

Bulls Head are right behind them as they also kept their perfect record going as Alan Mowforth (left) scored a second half hat-trick to win a seven goal thriller against The Park. Sam Newton gave a penalty away to allow Callum Harrison to give The Park an early lead from the penalty spot and although Matt Evans burst through The Park defence to level, the visitors went back in front with a Ryan Campbell strike. Josh Ransom then crossed for Calvin Thomas to double The Park’s lead by half time, but soon after he had been introduced at half time, Mowforth pulled one back with a quickly taken free kick. Mowforth then volleyed an equaliser and in the final minute he completed his hat-trick after Nick Ash had beat his marker to set him up.

Level on points with the top two is Woodhouse Angel after a 2-1 victory over Redmires. Kirk Briddons diagonal cross was volleyed home by Matt Parkes to give Angel the lead and Jon Wall levelled from the penalty spot after Anthony Dolan had brought down Dave Ward in the box, but all three points went Angel’s way when they were awarded a penalty and Gareth Simons scored from the spot.

Both Hemsworth Villa and their visitors Ecclesfield Players Lounge started the day without a point and it looked like Villa would be celebrating after John Howsham marked his debut with a first half goal when he was put through by Pete Burgin. Ecclesfield made changes at the interval and after Craig Senior had levelled, Tom Bartholamew won it for them when he latched onto Joe Knights pass to score - see picture right. More action from the game is below.

DIV 1 - Oughtibridge go top as Hartley double gives Ranch a hand to see off Norton - Stephano Kissac hit Oughtibridge's winner against Loxley to send his team top of the table as a Ben Hartley (left) double saw Ranch come from behind to beat previous leaders Norton Oaks 'A'. Players Lounge Athletic and Old Blue Ball both had their perfect records ended as Ball recovered from two down to draw with each other and Aston Swallownest had their perfect record ended when they drew at home to Southey Social, but had it not been for keeper Scott Hall and a last minute Billy Evans strike Southey would have won. Harry O'Neill kept his record of goals in every game as Fox & Hounds beat Anston Athletic.

Division One has new leaders after Oughtibridge WM beat Loxley while a Ben Hartley double saw Ranch come from behind to beat previous leaders Norton Oaks 'A'. James Baker took advantage when the keeper dropped Adam Wood’s free kick to give Oughtibridge the lead and although Lee Crampton scored from close range to level things up for Loxley, Stephano Kissak produced a great turn and finish to win it for Oughtibridge.

Hartley set Oliver Whittaker up for Ranch’s opener, but they gifted Oaks an equaliser when Richard Honeyman turned the ball into his own net. Danny Reet then put Oaks ahead, but Harley grabbed his first to level before half time. A tight second half saw a mistake settle it when Billy Ireland’s misplaced back pass went to Hartley and he rounded two defenders before curling it past the keeper for Ranch’s winner.

Players Lounge Athletic and Old Blue Ball both had their perfect records ended as Ball recovered from two down to draw. Danny Clinton and Antony Holmes gave Players Lounge a two goal half time lead, but Ball rescued a point when Marc Peacock headed Tom Goodison’s corner home before Tom Thornton back-heeled the equaliser.

Aston Swallownest also had their perfect record ended when they drew at home to Southey Social. Rob Womack’s goal just before half time gave Southey the lead and had it not been for Aston keeper Scott Hall (right), Southey would have been out of sight before Billy Evans grabbed a last minute equaliser for Aston. Harry O'Neill kept his record of goals in every game as Fox & Hounds moved up to third with a 4-2 victory over Anston Athletic. Steve Davis with two , Matt Jebson and O’Neill goals had Fox 4-0 up at half time and although a Jamie Ward penalty and a Will Hutchinson strike reduced the arrears for Anston, they never looked like getting back into the game. Despite two James Simpson goals for their visitors, Liam Favell, Lee Hill and Joe McGuiness goals helped Brinsworth Whitehill gain their points of the season with a 3-2 victory over Cobden View.

DIV 2 - Shaw double keeps Phoenix on top and Fothergill treble stuns Intake, while Blake's four gets Steelers flying - A Nicky Shaw double helped Phoenix to victory over Crookes & District to stay top, but right behind them is The Pheasant after a Lewis Fothergill treble helped them thrash Intake Old Boys. Steelers finally played their first league game and Blake Owen (pictured left) scored four as they hammered Sharrow Vale, while another big winner was Colley as a Josh Conner double helped them brush aside Pen Nook. George Rudd grabbed two as Hare & Hounds won at FC Spartak, while Joe Beachell's volley rescued a point for Norton Oaks 'B' against Chapeltown RBL.

A Nicky Shaw (right) double helped Phoenix to victory over Crookes & District to stay top of Division Two, but right behind them is The Pheasant after a Lewis Fothergill treble helped them thrash Intake Old Boys. Matt Cowen gave Crookes an early lead, but Joe Howarth and Shaw’s calm chip had Phoenix ahead by the break. Driven on by Ross Carey, Crookes levelled with Cowen’s second, but Shaw put Phoenix back in front before Dan Commander got onto the end of Brad Hardy’s pass to make the points safe for Phoenix.

The Pheasant tore into Intake Old Boys right from the off and Craig Mawhood soon had them ahead. He then turned on the edge of the area before grabbing The Pheasant’s second before Fothergill scored three times before half time. Intake did better after the break, but they couldn’t stop Shane Andrews scoring a sixth after Matt Turner’s shot rebounded to him off the bar.

Blake Owen scored four times as Steelers hammered Sharrow Vale 8-2 in their first league game of the season. An own goal just before half time had given Sharrow some hope, but by the time Ivan Merrill took advantage of an error by the keeper to hit Sharrow’s second Liam Garrett, Brad Oxley, Sam Wright and the impressive Kaiden Simpson had all found the net for Steelers.

Another big winner was Colley as a Josh Conner double helped them to a 7-2 victory over Pen Nook. Paul Randall and Mark Barraclough goals had twice put Pen Nook back into the games, but further goals from Jo Zipfel, Faisal Miladi, Jack Heffren, Brendan Drew and Zak Crownshaw saw Colley comfortably home. Although FC Spartak gave Hare & Hounds a torrid first half hour, goals either side of half time by George Rudd, followed by a third by Adam Cawood saw Hare & Hounds to a comfortable 3-0 win, while Joe Beachell's volley from Dom Jolly’s cross gave Norton Oaks 'B' a point after a Ben Palmer penalty had given Chapeltown RBL a first half lead. Oaks also had a first half penalty saved by Chapeltown keeper Sean Crothers

19 Sept 2013 - STEVE GEE MERIT CUP FINAL - Loxley go close but get Eaton for the feast of Stevens - In a terrific Steve Gee Merit Cup Final at the Stocksbridge Park Steels Look Local Stadium, Division One Loxley led twice and pushed CBC Premier Handsworth Turf all the way, but two goals by Carl Eaton eventually turned the Final Turf's way, leaving their skipper Andy Stevens to celebrate his seventeenth season with the club by lifting the first silverware of the season. Stevens (left) and Eaton (right) are pictured left with the Cup.

Loxley started brightly and they created the first chance for Lee Crampton, but his shot was well saved by Turf keeper Liam Richardson. Turf responded with a good run by Ryan Foster, but Richardson was soon called on again to make a terrific save when Anthony Marshall cut in from the left and shot. Turf skipper Andy Stevens then had to head over his own bar to keep Loxley out and although a good run by Turf's Danny Leesley created a chance for Ben Shackshaft, his shot was saved by Loxley keeper Lee Crabtree.

Loxley were still on top though and Richardson had to tip a cross away to safety and a Jon Rhodes cross saw Anthony Marshall head wide before Lee Crampton had a shot deflected wide for a corner. Crampton then ran at the Turf defence before feeding Anthony Marshall and his shot crashed against the underside of the bar before Stevens headed it out for a corner. Turf hit back and broke quickly for Carl Eaton to have a shot deflected for a corner and a Stevens cross was headed narrowly over the bar by Ben Shackshaft and with Carl Bowler winning everything at the back it was Turf that were now on top, but they were rocked when keeper Richardson had to come off due to a groin injury.

Sam Atkin took over in the Turf goal, but his first touch was to pick the ball out of the net after a Marshall cross was met at the back post by Geoff Mayfield and his header back across goal was expertly finished by Piers Bond to put Loxley ahead. Turf responded with a Ryan Foster free kick that went narrowly wide and although they trailed at the interval, after the restart a Stevens shot was saved. Stevens took the resulting corner and Carl Bowler stooped to head the equaliser. Perry Jackson should then have put Turf ahead when he was clean through, but his weak shot was easily saved by Crabtree and Turf suffered a further blow when skipper Stevens also had to give way to injury.

Loxley quickly took advantage when Anthony Marshall beat three defenders before feeding Steve Mayfield and his shot squirmed under Atkin to put Loxley back in front. Their lead didn't last long though when a Jackson run opened up the Loxley defence and Tyron Wilson smashed the ball home to make it 2-2. Jackson then rounded the Loxley keeper, but he could only shoot wide, but Turf did get their noses in front when Mark Jones' cross caused confusion in the Loxley defence and Eaton smashed the loose ball into the top corner.

Loxley tried to respond, but it was Turf that put the result beyond doubt when another Jackson run put the Loxley defence under pressure the clearance fell to Eaton twenty five yards out and he hit the ball like an arrow into the bottom corner to confirm Turf's first Merit Cup Final victory - see them pictured with the trophy left. During the events Mike bumped into The Park's secretary Wendy Stevens, who was volunteering her time to support the Healthy Athletes Programme, which provided health screenings and information to over 1700 athletes. Mike (right) and Wendy (centre) are pictured with some of the Y&H competitors.

15 Sept 2013 - Kitlocker extend their sponsorship with the League - Kitlocker have extended their sponsorship with the League and our clubs will receive special discounts on kit and equipment.

15 Sept 2013 - CBC PREM - Angel sunk by Seaman, but Stannington Village and Bulls Head stay on course - Woodhouse Angel's perfect start was ended when a single Danny Seaman (right) strike gave The Vine their first points of the season. The Vine started strongly and Craig Woolley had a shot cleared off the line, so it was no surprise when Liam Allott played Seaman in and he rounded keeper John Badkin to score. Angel came into the game more after the break and almost levelled when Scott Riley hit the bar and Shaun Blythe had to make a goal line clearance, but The Vine should have made their win more emphatic when Jon Warburton managed to head wide from five yards in front of an open goal.

Despite falling behind to a Jack Hall header, Stannington Village made no mistake with a home win over Handsworth Old Boys. The Old Boys case wasn’t helped though when they lost both their keeper and a full back to injury and Luke Mitchell and John Saville strikes had Stannington in front by the break. The second half saw Jack Mylnek set up goals for both Joe Barker (left) and Rob Elliott before Barker grabbed his second to complete a 5-1 victory for the champions.

Bulls Head also made it two wins out of two at Ecclesfield Players Lounge, but it was a much closer affair with Ecclesfield missing many chances before Lee Smith headed home Tom Cocker’s corner to give Bull the lead and Nick Ash doubled it when he latched onto keeper Luke Smith’s long clearance to lob the keeper. Ecclesfield managed to pull one back with a Craig Senior penalty but it wasn’t enough and they were left to rue the missed chances.

Redmires finally got their season underway and earned themselves a point by twice coming from two down against Civil Service. Jake Ford and a John Charles header gave Service a two goal lead, but after that it was Redmires that dominated and they pulled one back through Ben Palmer. Redmires then had a strong penalty appeal turned down before Gavin Davis grabbed a third for Service on the break but after the interval Redmires continued to dominate and Scott Smith scored a second for them. Carl Whitby (right) in the Service goal was working overtime to keep his side ahead, but he was finally beaten  when Mikey Taylor took advantage of a quick free kick by Matt Brown to get a deserved equaliser.

DIV 1 - Ten man Ball halt the leaders - In Division One, despite being reduced to ten men, Old Blue Ball came from behind to beat the leaders Norton Oaks 'A'. Callum Chambers gave Ball an early lead, but it was cancelled out before half time when Billy Ireland headed home Rich Gilham’s cross. Danny Reet met Alex Hughes’ cross to score his first for Norton to give them a second half lead and they looked certain to gain all three points when Ball were reduced to ten men, but Norton seemed to get too cavalier going forward and Ball twice hit them on the break to inflict their first defeat.

DIV 2 - Chris in-Szpajers Crookes to get a point - In Division Two a man of the match performance by Chris Szpajer helped Crookes & District to twice come from a goal down to earn a point at Norton Oaks 'B'. Ian Bruce’s volley gave Oaks a half time lead only to see it cancelled out by a Lee Wharton penalty after he had been felled in the area. Oaks re-took the lead when Nick West poked home from close range, but that was also cancelled out by a Rob Acheson strike.

SUNDAY SENIOR CUP - Shackshaft double cant stop Hackenthorpe - Handsworth Turf looked to be heading for a shock Senior Sunday Cup victory when two Ben Shackshaft strikes had given them a two goal lead against Meadowhall Premier Hackenthorpe, but with a strengthening wind behind them in the second half Hackenthorpe hit back to win 5-2.

SUNDAY JUNIOR CUP - A dozen go through as just three go out - It was a very different story in the Junior Sunday Cup as twelve teams went through the first round and just three teams went out, with one of those came from an all-Blades Super Draw tie between The Pheasant and FC Spartak. A Shane Andrews treble and two from his brother Carl Andrews were the back bone of The Pheasant’s victory, but goals from Roman Pecha, Jan Horvath and Martin Horvath kept Spartak in the game until late goals from Craig Mahwood and Frank McAusin confirmed victory for the home side.

Shaun Garwell, John Reader and John Higgins all scored twice as Intake Old Boys won 10-2 at Deepcar Town, while Dan Commander and Kieran Cull also hit doubles as Phoenix won 9-1 at Hillsborough Club. Vaughan Burgess scored twice in Southey Social’s 8-1 win at New Bohemians and Lee Crampton scored two and Jon Rhodes three as Loxley also hit eight at The Royal. Another hat-trick came from Sharrow Vale’s John Matterson as they came from two down to win 5-2 after extra time at Malin Bridge. Jack Heffren scored twice as Colley also needed extra time to beat Wadsley 5-2.

Mike Walker and Karl Scanlon both hit doubles in Cobden View’s 5-1 victory over Sheffield Forum and Blake Owen also scored twice in Steelers 3-1 win at Walkley Cottage. Danny Clinton netted twice as Players Lounge Athletic beat The Abbey 4-2, while the day’s most unexpected scorer was Fox & Hounds keeper Ryan Brown as his long clearance bounced over the head of his opposite number to level the scores after hosts Rose House had gone ahead. Fox took further advantage as Harry O’Neill kept up his record of goals in every game with their winner. The only two sides to lose to non-Blades Super Draw sides was Chapeltown RBL who went down 6-3 at Brampton Dynamos and Hare & Hounds who lost 5-1 at Handsworth Cross keys.

8 Sept 2013 - CBC PREM - Stannington win thriller, but Steels go top and a Parkes treble sees Angel second - Stannington Village started their title defence in sensational style when they recovered from the shock of conceding an early goal to win a ten goal thriller at The Vine. The Vine started very brightly and had Stannington under very heavy pressure and should have taken an early lead when Matt Ellis rounded the keeper and squared to Liam Allott, but his first shot was blocked and his follow up was knocked off the line. The Vine’s pressure finally got its rewards when Craig Woolley put in Liam Allott who beat his man before playing in Matt Ellis who finished beautifully to open the scoring.

Stannington hit back with two quick goals set up by Ben Cook. The first came when his low cross found Shaun Flynn (left), who turned the ball home at the front post and the second came when Cook found Rob Shelley at the edge of the box and he did a Cruyff turn past a defender before hitting a rasping shot into the near corner.

The Vine were still having plenty of the game though and Liam Allott’s mazy run ended with him hitting the inside of the post from the edge of the box. Will Blakeney then hit the bar with a free kick, so it was against the run of play when Stannington added a third when Jack Mylnek turned in the box and hit a shot which keeper Sam Blackburn could only parry and Joe Barker tapped in at the far post. The Vine eventually got some reward for their efforts when Matt Ellis grabbed his second with a right foot finish just before the break.

Jack Mylnek had a great chance to increase Stannington’s lead when he was left with only the keeper Blackburn to beat, but he hit it high and wide. The Vine then grabbed a deserved equaliser when Liam Allott turned his man before hitting a powerfull strike straight in to the top corner from thirty yards, but Stannington regained the lead when Christian Nixon handled in the box and Flynn hit his spot kick into the bottom corner and they increased it when Lee Johnstone won the ball twenty five yards out before unleashing a thunderous shot into the top corner scored.

The Vine got themselves back into the game when they were awarded a penalty when Allott was brought down and Matt Ellis converted it to complete his hat trick. They then had chances to equalise, with Ellis heading a Will Blakeney cross wide from five yards and Allott was denied by keeper Nathan Ryan when he was through. Danny Seaman also shot straight at keeper when well placed, but the Stannington defence held firm and they completed the scoring with a goal on the break as Mylnek found Robin Elliott before he beat a defender and hit a shot into the bottom corner.

The Vine: Sam Blackburn, Shaun Brunt, Shaun Blythe, Chris Shirtcliffe, Brent Heeley, Rikki Davidson, Craig Woolley, Will Blakeney, Danny Seaman, Liam Allott, Matt Ellis. Subs Andrew Drummond, Jon Warburton, Ricky Gregory, Christian Nixon.

Stannington Village: Nathan Ryan, Adam Grainger, Ben Cook, Dan Green, John Saville, Luke Mitchell-Stanley, Joe Barker, Lee Johnstone, Rob Shelley, Dean Jepson, Shaun Flynn, subs, Jack Mylnek, John Allcock, Eddie Payne, Robin Elliott, Tom Donlon.

Referee: Adam Burgess

Stocksbridge Park Steels are the early CBC Premier leaders after a second successive away win without conceding a goal. Handsworth Old Boys were the victims this time as Mitchell Savage converted Scott Birch’s cross to give Steels a fifth minute lead. John Ward headed a second after Savage’s free kick came back off the bar and after the break, Jordan Bethel scored his first for the club from another Birch cross.

Woodhouse Angel are second after also making it two wins out of two with a hard earned victory over Hemsworth Villa. Kirk Briddon fired Angel in front in the first minute and Matt Parkes doubled their lead soon after, but when the keeper’s clearance hit Peter Burgin it fell perfectly for Jack House to pull one back for Villa. Matt Bray then set House up for a deserved equaliser before half time, but Angel went back in front after the break when Ryan McGuiness set Parkes up for his second and Parkes made certain of victory when he completed his hat-trick. Action from the game is below.

A Perry Jackson double helped Handsworth Turf to victory in a seven goal thriller at Ecclesfield Players Lounge, but had it not been for three outstanding saves by ex-Derby County keeper Liam Richardson Turf might have been out of the game before Jackson gave them the lead. Andy Stevens then hit a terrific free kick to double Turf’s lead before Craig Senior pulled one back for the home side. Ben Shackshaft’s shot took a slight deflection before finding the net for Turf’s third and although Senior scored from the spot after Ecclesfield were awarded a penalty, Jackson curled home his second from 20 yards to restore Turf’s two goal lead. It proved just enough as Ecclesfield again reduced the arrears through Danny Turner.

After a goalless first half, Civil Service took the lead at The Park when The Park keeper Sam Kirk brought down Gavin Davis in the area and Gavin Wills scored from the spot. The Park levelled ten minutes later when Ryan Campbell outsprinted the Service defence and it looked like he would give The Park victory when he produced a repeat, but Service rescued a point when John Charles reacted first to Paul Billard’s free kick.

DIV 1 - Norton Oaks slam Anston, while Parker treble lifts Players Lounge - Norton Oaks ‘A’ (left) are the early Division One pacesetters after doubles for Rich Gilham and Billy Ireland saw them win 6-1 at Anston Athletic. A Scott Stringer penalty got the party started and doubles for Rich Gilham and Billy Ireland and one for Coel Fulton had them completely in control, while Jake Clulow hit Anston’s consolation.

In second place is Players Lounge Athletic after a Danny Parker (right) treble helped them to a 4-0 victory over Brinsworth Whitehill. Parker cut in from the wing before striking his first and headed his second from an Anthony Holmes free kick. Holmes was again the provider for Parker’s third after the break, before Parker turned provider with the cross for Danny Clinton to head home.

Oughtibridge War Memorial also made it two wins out of two at Ranch. Adam Wood twice went close before his cross shot gave Oughtibridge a half time lead, but Ranch levelled in the second half when Tom Hartley met his brother Ben’s cross to head home. Matt Dodd put Oughtibridge back in front and the points were confirmed when James Baker’s blockbuster of a shot cannoned off a post onto defender Chris Wajs and into the net. Aston Swallownest also made it six points out of six with a 2-1 win at Cobden View. Ross Edward’s free kick gave Aston the lead and only a number of saves by keeper Harry Shaw stopped Aston from adding any more. His work looked to be gaining a reward when James Simpson’s low shot levelled the scores, but when David Sills headed a cross back across the goal for Nathan Warren to head Aston’s winner.

A John Morgan double sent Old Blue Ball on their way to a 3-0 win at Southey Social. Morgan met a cross at the back post to score his first and then broke clear of the defence to double the lead before the break. Driven on by Danny Stead in midfield, Ball were giving the Southey defence a torrid time and only Andy Guest in the Southey goal was keeping the score down with a string of saves including a penalty save, until Marc Peacock marked his debut with a perfect flick into the net.

Loxley should have taken a first half lead at home to Fox & Hounds when Anthony Marshal missed an open goal and although he went closer when he hit the post, they were misses he would regret as the second half saw Fox took control. Harry O'Neill gave Fox the lead when he followed up after his penalty had been saved and he added a second with a near post header.

DIV 2 - Pheonix are flying, while Intake get first points - Phoenix (left)are the early Division Two leaders after a narrow victory at Hare & Hounds. Daniel Commander and Joe Howarth gave Phoenix a two goal half time lead and it proved to be just enough after Robert Troughton pulled one back for Hare & Hounds in the second half. Intake Old Boys claimed their first win at home to Sharrow Vale. Centre back Billy Hawes’ guided header gave Intake the lead and stand-in skipper Kavan May doubled it before the break. John Matterson pulled one back only for Bobby Howard to power his way through to hit Intake’s third. Ivan Merrill pulled a second back for Sharrow, but Intake made the points safe when Robert Clowes scored with his first touch after a year out with a broken leg.

MACRON CUP - Palmer treble as Legion hit back, while Oaks Dunk Pen Nook - A Ben Palmer treble saw Chapeltown RBL come from two down to go through at Steelers, while a Keith Dunk double helped see Norton Oaks 'B' through at Pen Nook. A Carl Andrews double helped The Pheasant come from behind to go through at Colley, while FC Spartak made it a complete whitewash for the away teams with victory at Crookes & District.

After Ben Palmer had given Chapeltown RBL the lead they found themselves two behind as goals from Blake Owen, Liam Garrett and Sam Wright gave newcomers Steelers a 3-1 half time lead. Manager John Hindmarsh's half time changes did the trick and Rob Portman headed one back before Palmer equalised. Joe Moorhouse then put Chapeltown back in front and Palmer made certain by completing his hat-trick from the penalty spot.

After an own goal had been cancelled out by Pen Nook’s Paul Randall, Norton Oaks ‘B’ went through with two from Keith Dunk and one from Adam Jackson. A Carl Andrews double helped The Pheasant come from behind to go through at Colley. Jack Heffren headed Colley into the lead, but Andrews levelled before half time and Dylan Parrot put them ahead soon after the break. Brendan Drew levelled for Colley, but Andrews put The Pheasant back in front from the penalty spot after Craig Mahwood had been brought down. Colley pressed for another equaliser, but man of the match Craig Poulton made progress for The Pheasant safe with a quick break and finish.

FC Spartak made it a complete whitewash for the away teams with victory at Crookes & District, with goals from Marek Zig, Martin Horvath and Roman Pecha goals just pipping goals by Mike Dobson and Sam Bebbington

1 Sept 2013 - CBC PREM - Villa get Birched, but Briddon's got real talent for Angel - Woodhouse Angel celebrated their return to the CBC Premier as two Kirk Briddon goals and a Spencer Starkes penalty save saw them come from behind to win at Handsworth Turf. Tyrone Wilson marked his debut for Turf by giving them a half time lead, but Briddon ended a mazy run with a shot into the top corner before grabbing the winner after robbing a defender. It looked like Angel would have to settle for a point when Turf were awarded a late penalty, but Spencer Starkes kept his side in front with a brilliant save from Carl Eaton’s spot kick.

It was an unhappy return to the top flight for two new boys though, with Hemsworth Villa crashing 6-0 at home to Stocksbridge Park Steels and Handsworth Old Boys losing 3-1 at Bulls Head. A Scott Birch (right) treble, including two penalties did most of the damage for Stocksbridge, while Mark Woodcock, Mitch Savage and Adam Todd grabbed Steels others - action from the game is shown below.

Carter Mupwaya scored on his debut for Handsworth Old Boys to cancel out Mark Bryant’s opener for Bulls Head, but they fell behind again when Nick Ash spun to hit an unstoppable shot and Bulls Head made sure when Greg Broomhead finished off a good move for their third.

Civil Service scored the season’s first goal at home against The Vine when Gavin Wills converted a penalty after Gavin Davis had been brought down, yet it looked like they would have to settle for a point when Liam Allot scored following Rikki Davidson’s cross just two minutes from time, but in the final minute Service forced a corner and Craig Graham marked his debut with Service’s winner.

DIV 1 - Aspinall treble sees Norton home, while a Hoyle treble rescues Cobden View - After a goalless first half a Robbie Aspinall (left) treble helped Norton Oaks 'A' beat fellow newly promoted side Loxley 4-1. Oaks with five debutants in their side took the lead soon after the re-start when Rich Gilham headed home and although Lee Crampton levelled for a Loxley side that had pipped them to the Division Two title last season, there was no stopping Oaks when Aspinall started to weave his magic down Oaks’s left and he completed a quick fire treble to get Oaks off to the best possible start.

Mark Hoyle also hit a hat-trick for Cobden View but it could only rescue a point for them at home against fellow newly promoted side Fox & Hounds. Hoyle’s first cancelled out Steve Davies’s opener for Fox, but Fox looked set to take all three points when Richard Firth, Harry O’Neill and Davies’s second put them 4-1 up. Hoyle started the fightback with twenty minutes remaining and Jamie Simpson marked his debut with a goal, before Hoyle toe poked home to complete the fightback and his hat-trick.

After David Sills and Ian Draper strikes for Aston Swallownest had both been cancelled out by Oliver Whittaker and Adam Hadfield goals for Ranch, it was left to Sills to grab his second to give Aston an opening day victory.  Despite a Jamie Ward goal for Anston Athletic, a Justin Westoby solo goal and headers from David Sheakey and Stefan Lantua on his debut gave Oughtibridge WM a deserved away win. Last season's leading scorer Danny Clinton (right) got off the mark again with Players Lounge Athletic's winner against Southey Social a minute before the break. Only some good saves by Southey keeper Andy Guest stopped Lounge having a much larger lead and his work almost paid off when Lee Wilson hit the woodwork late on.

DIV 2 - Parrot gets The Pheasant off to a flyer, while a Rudd treble gets Hare & Hounds up and running - A Dylan Parrot treble helped The Pheasant get off to a flying start at fellow newcomers FC Spartak. Craig Mawhood set up his first two before half time and Mawhood grabbed his side’s third soon after the break. An Andy Dawson solo goal was soon followed by a Carl Andrews double before man-of-the-match Parrot completed his hat-trick for a 7-0 victory.

Helped by three assists from Mark Bailey, George Rudd (left) also completed a hat-trick as Hare & Hounds won 3-1 at Sharrow Vale. After Rudd’s first two, Paddy Young pulled one back for Sharrow a minute before the break and they went close to levelling before Rudd made the points safe.

After Jamie Marshall and Oliver West goals had given Norton Oaks ‘B’ a two goal lead at home against Colley, the visitors hit back to level by half time with two Zak Crownshaw strikes. Crownshaw then completed his hat-trick before Jo Zipfel added a fourth to seemingly give Colley the points, but a second from West and one from Adam Jackson rescued a point for Oaks.

Eli Smith and a John Higgins free kick twice had Intake Old Boys in front at Phoenix, but a Joe Howarth header and a thirty five yard strike by Jake Slaughter levelled for Phoenix who then won it with a Kieran Cull free kick.
