29 Nov - CBC Premier -  All CBC Premier games off

All the CBC Premier games were called off due to waterlogged pitches

Division 1 - All the Gabb-it-as about Anston

The only Division One game played saw a Tom Gabbitas (pictured right) treble help Anston Athletic bounce back from last weekend's defeat and climb out of the bottom three with a 3-1 win over Handsworth Old Boys. Although it was a fairly even first half it was Anston that led at the break after Simon Herberts' pass sent Gabbitas clear to score his first. After the break it was Handsworth Old Boys that took the initiative and only solid defending and good goalkeeping by Anston keeper Jon Parker kept them out. Anston were always dangerous on the break though and Gabbitas netted two more to complete his hat-trick. Handsworth never gave up though and deservedly pulled one back through Carl Bowler, but Anston held on for the points to ease any relegation fears.

Division 2 - Gr-eight for Southey

Division Two's only game saw Danny Lindley (pictured left) smash a hat-trick as Southey Social came from behind to beat Highfield Old Crown 8-1 in a game that was nothing like as one sided as the scoreline would suggest. Old Crown made the early running and took a deserved lead through Robert Ploughman, but it was just the wake up call the leaders needed and they were soon level when Lindley netted his first. Lindley then smashed an unstoppable shot from thrity five yards to give Southey the lead and he completed his hat-trick before the break.

John Mellor had also netted his eleventh of the season before half time and after the break he netted his twelfth to take him to the top of the goalscoring charts. It was a bit harsh on Old Crown as they were giving as good as they got, but Southey's power began to tell and they took their tally to eight with more goals from Rob Womack, Simon Jebson and Chris Roberts eleventh of the season, sending them six points clear at the top. Although Crown finished well beaten they continued to show real spirit and sportsmanship and both sides were helped by the efforts of referee M Layton.

22 Nov - Sunday Cup Draws -  Stannington face trip to Arbourthorne EA

The County FA Senior Sunday Cup draw saw Stannington Village drawn to play at Arbourthorne EA and Civil Service are also away at Thrybergh WMC, but Handsworth WMC have a home tie against a Royston Pockets side that ko'd Yew Tree in the last round.

In the Junior Sunday Cup our two remaining sides both face Rotherham opposition, with Anston Athletic visiting Ingsfield Lane, while Brinsworth Whitehill entertain AFC Titans.

22 Nov - CBC Premier -  Service hit for six by Handsworth, while Tollerfield snatches it for Villa

The only two CBC Premier games to survive the weather saw Handsworth WMC gain their first away points of the season by hitting six at Civil Service, while Hemsworth Villa also gained their first away win of the season when a late David Tollerfield strike, his second of the game, won a seven goal thriller at Yew Tree.

After a Steve Booth save stopped Civil Service taking an early lead, Handsworth WMC struck when Liam Simmonite’s through ball allowed David Turner to round the keeper to score. Simmonite then had a shot saved before Tom Crosby’s free kick was headed home by Tom Crosby to double Handsworth’s lead. With Ryan Hardy outstanding for the visitors another goal always looked likely and it came when Simmonite set Turner up a second time before the break.

The second half wasn’t too old when centre back Wes McDonald headed a fourth and Turner then gave strike partner Simmonite the perfect birthday present for Handsworth’s fifth, before Simmonite set up his brother Sean to make it six.

Hemsworth Villa went to Yew Tree having slipped into the bottom three and without an away win, but Villa grabbed an early lead when Stefan Harris’s shot was saved, only for the rebound to fall to David Tollerfield to calmly stroke the ball home (pictured right). Yew Tree soon levelled though when Michael Smith’s pinpoint pass gave Chris Leek time to lob the ball over Villa keeper Jamie King, but Leek then went from hero to zero by knocking the ball past his own keeper to put Villa back in front and it quickly got even better for Villa when Harris’s cross fooled everyone for a third before the break.

Yew Tree hit back strongly after the break and Daniel Lewis scrambled the ball home from a corner to reduce their arrears, before they levelled when Richard Hirst’s pass was finished by Scott Birch. After that, although both teams went all out for a winner, a draw looked certain until Tollerfield chased down a back pass that was underhit and Yew Tree keeper James Marks clearance hit Tollerfield before rebounding into the net for the winner.

Division 1 - Anston in Stocks, Crown Skin Brinsworth and Bulls Head Bart-er win at Loxley

A Leon Stocks double helped Pitsmoor Royal Oak to a 5-2 victory over Anston Athletic and back to the top of Division One, while a Daniel Skinner treble for Heeley Crown just beat Brinsworth Whitehill and Jordan Barton struck twice to help Bulls Head to a narrow win at Loxley. A Rees Williams equaliser gave Handsworth Old Boys a share of the points at home to Ranch.

Pitsmoor Royal Oak went into their game rocked by the news that centre forward Scoot Spzajer was going to be missing for sometime after needing an operation on a fractured cheekbone. They moved Leon Stocks (pictured left) up front and he started off his man of the match performance by getting a fifth minute opener and after Gavin Davis had doubled Pitsmoor’s lead in the tenth minute, Stocks rounded the keeper to add a third before half time. Oak continued to press after the break and Luke Parwana added a fourth before leading scorer Elijah Lewis produced a clinical finish for their fifth.

Ranch could have gone second with victory at Handsworth Old Boys, but that didn’t look likely when Karl Atkin gave the home side a half time lead. After the break though, Ranch hit back when Richard Honeyman beat the full back before crossing to the back post for Dave Ashmore to head his first of the season and when Jordan Stead’s solo run set up Tom Hartley to put them ahead from a tight angle, a Ranch victory looked likely, but they had to settle for a point after Rees Williams netted a controversial equaliser for Handsworth.

Fourth place Heeley Crown put a gap beneath them with victory over Brinsworth Whitehill, but they only did it by the skin of their teeth courtesy of a Daniel Skinner treble. Although Skinner headed Crown into the lead they were pegged back before half time by a Ryan Stevenson strike, but two clinical finishes by Skinner after the break put Crown in charge. Brinsworth didn’t lie down though and Jamie Radford pulled one back from the penalty spot, but despite a very nervy last ten minutes for Crown they held on for the points.

Bulls Head went to Loxley buoyed by their first win of the season and although they found themselves on the receiving end of a great deal of pressure by the home side they made it two wins in a row. Bulls Head went into half time with a two goal lead thanks to two Jordan Barton finishes from two set pieces and although Barton left his side with ten men when he had to give way at half time to injury, Bull made it three from three attempts when Kerry Dixon crossed for Joe Keighley to score. Loxley continued to dominate the game and after missing numerous chances they eventually pulled one back when Mick Smith fired into the bottom corner and Loxley gave themselves a chance of salvaging a point when Geoff Mayfield headed a second, but in the end they were left rueing all those missed chances.

Division 2 - Roberts double sees Southey widen gap as Fairbank-Rhodes win nine goal thriller at Colley

A Chris Roberts double and one for Danny Lindley saw Southey Social win at Rivelin and increase their lead at the top of Division Two to three points as Hilton Stratford and Joe Knight doubles helped Fairbank-Rhodes to victory in a nine goal thriller at Colley.

Rivelin put the Southey defence under some early pressure, but it was Southey that took the lead when Chris Roberts turned and shot past the keeper. A quick break then saw Danny Lindley show his class to double Southey’s lead before half time and Roberts confirmed the points were going to Southey when he netted his second in the second half, but both teams can be proud of a game full of quality, as can referee Fred Haigh who drew praise from both sides.

Although Lee Cambell and Paul Smith goals gave Colley a two goal lead, they were the first to admit that it had been against the run of play and it was no surprise when Hilton Stratford volleyed one back for Fairbank-Rhodes before the break. Michael Holmes netted his first for Fairbank to pull them level, before Stratford headed his second to put them in front. Saisal Maladi dragged Colley level and although Joe Knight restored Fairbank’s lead, a draw looked certain when Sheridan Wilks levelled again, but Knight showed why he is such a feared striker by netting the winner from close range.

Aston Mayerton are up to fourth after their way to victory over a Crookes & District that had to start with manager Michael Cottyn in goal. Cottyn was soon picking the ball out of the net when Ashley Baker’s shot was carried past him by the strong wind, but he produced a string of saves to win himself the man of the match award from his team mates. Even when he was beaten a second time it came from a Josh Bell penalty.

Red Lion continued their charge up the table with a 4-0 victory over Oughtibridge Village. Darren Jarvis netted twice in the first fifteen minutes and Kevin Bly added a third. The fourth also came in the first half when Bly’s cross was diverted past his own keeper by a defender and although Oughtibridge had a much better second half, the Lion defence held firm for their first clean sheet of the season.

The Park climbed out of the bottom three as a Lee Bridges (pictured right) treble gave them all three points at Old Harrow. The Park fell behind to a Matt Simmerson strike, but they were level less than a minute later when Bridges netted his first. The Park took control after the break and there could well have been more than the two more from Bridges. Highfield Old Crown kept themselves out of the bottom three as Eddie McErlain's diving header produced the games only goal against Junior Blades.

22 Nov - Campbell leads the way in the goalscoring charts

Division Two Colley's Lee Campbell (pictured left) is now out on his own as the League leading scorer with eleven. The CBC Premier top marksmen are Woodhouse West End's Joel Lee and Ecclesfield 147's Craig Senior with 9 each, while Pitsmoor Royal Oak's Elijah Lewis has joined Anvil's Matt Asher and Ranch's Ian Buckley as Division One's top marksmen.

15 Nov - Mellor & Campbell lead the way in the goalscoring charts

Southey's John Mellor and Colley's Lee Campbell (pictured left) were the first two players to hit double figures this season and both stand at the top of the goalscoring chart with ten each. Just behind them with nine each are the CBC Premier pair, Woodhouse West End's Joel Lee and Ecclesfield 147's Craig Senior, while Division One's top marksmen remain Anvil's Matt Asher and Ranch's Ian Buckley.

15 Nov - Senior Sunday Cup -  Would you Adam & Eve it - Service hit 9, while Handsworth & Stannington also through

Adam Firth and Matt Meaney both hit doubles as Civil Service romped through to the last sixteen of the Senior Sunday Cup by crushing Doncaster side Adam & Eve 9-0. Service were gunning for revenge after losing to the Doncaster side two years ago and after Gav Griffiths, Matt Meaney, Adam Firth, Ben Sanderson and Ben Brown goals gave Service a 5-0 half time lead, the result was never in doubt. Adam & Eve did better at the start of the second half, but after Lee Wild added a sixth their resolve was broken and Chris Smith netted his first for the club before Firth and Meaney each added their second to complete the rout.

Handsworth WMC must have thought they were going out when visitors Worsbrough Common took a two goal lead inside the first fifteen minutes, but just after half time Handsworth introduced Andy Stevens and David Turner to the action to completely change the game. Turner began to terries the wings of the visitors and when the ball fell to Liam Simmonite (pictured right) he crashed a twenty five yard strike in off the bar to start the fightback.

Danny Leesley was now running the match for Handsworth and a sweet flowing move ended with Tom Crosby crossing for Stevens to head the equaliser the turnround was completed when Simmonite scrambled the ball home after Turner had yet again caused havoc in the visitors defence.

Stannington Village travelled to Thurcroft and after neither side could find a breakthrough the game went to extra time. It looked grim for Stannington when Thurcroft grabbed the lead in extra time, but they levelled when Tom Coulson was brought down in the area and Ali Mitchell dispatched the penalty. That took the game to a penalty shoot out and although they twice missed from the spot, Stannington went through after their hosts failed three times.

Yew Tree went out in controversial fashion as hosts Royston Pockets took the lead with a goal that was touched over the line by a hand. Tree then had what looked like a stonewall penalty appeal turned down before their hosts doubled their lead. Tree then pulled one back when Scott Birch headed home, but as they pushed for an equaliser they were caught on the break and went out 3-1. Despite an Alex Napier goal briefly pulling them back into the game, Laycock Sports also went out to Arbourthorne EA.

Junior Sunday Cup -  Anston Athletic and Brinsworth Whitehill carry the flag

Although all the remaining six Blades Super Draw sides had home advantage, just two will take their place in the last thirty two of the Junior Cup as only Brinsworth Whitehill and Anston Athletic could make home advantage count. Brinsworth took the lead through Carl Fleming and although visitors Team Conyers levelled to force extra time, they couldn’t live with Brinsworth as Jamie Radford, James Nettleship and Rikki Kitchen all found the net.

Anston Athletic took the lead against Wombwell Snooker Club when Simon Turner’s corner was headed home at the near post by Tom Gabbitas (pictured left) and they extended their lead when Simon Herberts scored from the penalty spot. Wombwell fought back and reduced the arrears with another penalty, but Anston’s defence held firm after that for the home side to go through.

Despite a Josh Delaney treble, Loxley were unlucky to go out in a penalty shoot out at home to Canal Tavern, while an under strength Anvil also went out. They had keeper Paul Brook to thank for keeping them in the game for a while, but Frazer Hartley’s goal was their only consolation. Aston Mayerton had six players missing, but  their depleted squad still gave a good account of themselves before bowing out to Shaw. Niagara twice lead with Steve Simmons and James Shepherd goals, but they couldn’t hold on and Boundary 08 went through 4-2.

CBC Premier -  Redmires quick off the blocks to climb off the bottom, while top two win

In the CBC Premier, Redmires were quick off the mark to win at Hemsworth Villa and climb off the foot of the table. With Karl Taylor back in goal it allowed Luke Siggs to take his place up front and he quickly made the most of it to fire Redmires ahead. While Villa were still reeling from that goal, Dale White fired in a second (pictured right) and with just ten minutes on the clock, Joe Gray added a third. Villa at last began to compose themselves and began to take the game to Redmires, but Taylor was keen to show he had lost none of his sharpness in goal and was only beaten once when David Tollerfield scored near the end. More action from the game is shown below:

Leaders Ecclesfield 147 got a shock at Millhouses Thermolast when Ali Humphries put Tom Gardiner in and his deflected shot gave the home side the lead, but just two minutes later 147 were level when Richard Adams’s long throw was put past his own keeper by Paul Allison. Another Adams throw allowed Ryan Keeney to head 147 into the lead and they extended that lead when Danny Touhey’s through ball was finished by Craig Senior. It wasn’t plain sailing though and the 147 defence had to withstand some real pressure and Millhouses missed a great chance to get back into the game when Danny Turner put a penalty over the bar.

Woodhouse West End hit top form to keep pace with the leaders as Joel Lee smashed a hat-trick in a 7-0 victory over Stocksbridge Park Steels. The return of Jason Short was also an important factor and he grabbed a brace, while their others came from Jay Dolan and Scott Hall’s first for the club.

Division 1 - Bottom beats top to, while Angel fly and Old Boys Pearce-d by Ranch

Division One provided the biggest shock of the day as bottom club Bulls Head snatched their first win of the season against previously unbeaten Pitsmoor Royal Oak that started the day as leaders. Oak dominated much of the game, but the nearest they came to scoring was an Elijah Lewis shot that hit the post. The Bull defence held firm and on a rare break upfield Matt Coates hit an unstoppable shot from the edge of the area that went in off the bar for what turned out to be the winner.

That result allowed Woodhouse Angel to fly to the top as two Kirk Briddon strikes helped them to victory over Heeley Crown. It might have been different had Crown taken one of the four chances they carved out in the first ten minutes, but once Briddon gave Angel the lead there only looked likely to be one winner. Tom Goodall marked his return from injury with Angel’s second with a header from a Wes Pierce corner and Pierce added a third before the break. It was more even in the second half, but Briddon added his second with a spectacular overhead kick, before Gary Sidebottom netted Crown’s consolation.

Ranch kept their title challenge going as player-manager Carl Pearce converted Liam Fogarty’s cross for the games only goal against Handsworth Old Boys. It was Ranch’s first game at their new Thorncliffe Rec home and the goal came after they had hit the woodwork three times, but they needed three great saves from Mark Broadhurst to keep their lead.

Division 2 - Top two both beaten, while chasing clubs close up

Division Two’s top two both came croppers as the chasing pack closed in on them. Lee Campbell’s pace proved too much for the home defence as he fired Colley into a two goal lead at leaders Southey Social and although Chris Roberts pulled one back, Colley restored their two goal margin when sub Marcus Huculak netted after missing an earlier chance. John Mellor grabbed a second for Southey late on but Colley held on for a deserved win that took them back into second place and end Southey’s unbeaten record

Rivelin started the day in second place but slipped two places after going home pointless from Junior Blades. After a goalless first half the goals came thick and fast, with Mike Reid giving the Blades the lead before Josh Ransom levelled. Danny Law soon had the Blades back in front and they took a firm grip when Joe Grapes hit their third. Josh Bermingham grabbed a second to give Rivelin some hope but they were finished off by Matt Cwojdzinski’s first for the Blades.

Back in second place is Fairbank-Rhodes after they beat Highfield Old Crown 3-0. Scott Whittington beat the offside trap to put Fairbank ahead before half time and after the break Andy Baxter extended it from the penalty spot after he had been brought down in the area. Crown tried hard to get back into the game but with Tom Hebidge marshalling the home side’s defence they couldn’t break through and Hilton Stratford finished them off with a header in the final minute.

Although Oughtibridge Village returned to form with a 4-0 win over Birley Moor News, they didn’t have it all their own way and were grateful for a number of saves by keeper Matt Luttrell. Village didn’t get their noses in front until the second half but in the end, two from Chris Watkin and one each from Brad Green an Ian Phillips saw them home and up to fifth.

After Ian Martin had given visitors The Park a first half lead, Red Lion hit back in the second half to improve their promotion chances. Kevin Bly (pictured right) levelled soon after the break and when Lewis Barker’s effort came back out to him, Bly grabbed his second. Keeper Neil Hawley was then called on to keep The Park at bay before Thomas Forte, brother of former Blade Jonathan, sealed it with Lion’s third.

Man of the match Matt Raey headed Crookes & District the lead at home to Old Harrow and although Joe Bilby cancelled it out, Crookes went back in front before half time through Mick Delaney. Old Harrow hit back strongly after the break and a second from Bilby and one from Kevin Allen looked to have won it for them until Matt Hartley strike gave Crookes a deserved point.

11 Nov - Pitsmoor Royal Oak attract Jewsons sponsors

Having attracted a new sponsorship with the UK's top builders merchants Jewsons, Division One leaders Pitsmoor Royal Oak were also one of the first Blades Super Draw League clubs to take advantage of the League's new tie-up with Kitlocker.com and they are now sporting a new Macron kit - see picture left.

11 Nov - Mellor leads the way in the goalscoring charts

The leading goalscorers are listed for the first time and Division Two's Southey Social's John Mellor (pictured right) tops the charts with nine. The CBC Premier's top marksman is Ecclesfield 147's Craig Senior, while Anvil's Matt Asher and Ranch's Ian Buckley lead the way in Division One with six each.

11 Nov - Paul Merson gives the League's 40th birthday a night to remember

The Sportsman's dinner, with ex-Arsenal and England star Paul Merson as the guest speaker, to help the League celebrate it's 40th birthday proved a big success. Paul gave over 120 players, officials and sponsors from the League a frank account of his life in football and beyond and earned a standing ovation for his part in a terrific night's entertainment. He was superbly supported by one of the funniest comedians on the circuit, Gary Marshall, and the evening was pulled together by the best Master of Ceremonies, the incomparable Malcolm Lord. Thank's should also go to League Honarary Vice President John Green for putting together a truly memorable evening. Paul also presented the latest Merit and Peak Performer Awards as well as a special award to the League's Assessor co-ordinator Ian Anderson for his service to the League.

8 Nov - CBC Premier -  Senior Service extends 147's lead as rivals are held

A Craig Senior (pictured left) double helped Ecclesfield 147 twice come from behind to beat Civil Service and it extended their lead at the top of the CBC Premier to five points as Woodhouse West End are held by a late Scott Wesney strike for Laycock Sports and Stannington Village are held by a Matt Jessermino equaliser for Yew Tree.

Adam Firth gave Civil Service an early lead only for Craig Senior to cancel it out, but a rare error by Danny Touhey was seized on by Firth to restore Service's lead. Man of the match Richard Adams hit a second equaliser before being brought down by Jake Ford in the area and allowing Senior to nudge 147 in front just before half time. Service tried hard to get back into the game, but 147 began to dominate and after Kevin Wraith had hit the bar, Senior wrapped up the three points with his second.

Stavros Kontou took advantage of an error by Dave Kippax to supply the perfect ball for Sam Read to give Laycock Sports a fifth minute lead at Woodhouse West End, but West End took just five minutes to level through Joel Lee. It stayed like that until the second half when Lee hit a stunning free kick to give West End the lead and it looked as if it might be enough until Laycock's veteran Andy Register crossed for Scott Wesney to earn his side a deserved share of the spoils.

Tom Morton missed the best chance of a goal in the first half of Stannington Village's visit to Yew Tree, but just after the interval Jack Ridge supplied a pinpoint cross for Joe Barker to give Stannington the lead. Ali Mitchell then missed a half chance to double the lead before Jamie Potts through ball saw Matt Jessermino beat the offside trap and a defender to hit a low shot into the bottom corner to level. Tree might then have won it had Jessermino and Chris Leek done better with two half chances, but that would have been very rough on Stannington.

Millhouses Thermolast had six different scorers as they climbed out of the bottom three with a 6-1 victory at Redmires. Redmires keeper Luke Siggs had already pulled off two great saves before Danny Stuart's low shot was deflected past him to give Millhouses the lead and it wasn't too long before Rob Gardiner's pass set up Ali Berry to double it. Full back Ben Woodman (pictured right) then started and finished the flowing move that saw Millhouses take a three goal half time lead. It was more of the same after the break with Gardiner adding a fourth before Sam Barthram's long range effort made it five and Danny Turner's neat finish six. Redmires only consolation was a Simon Marcus strike.

The Vine did almost as well with five different scorers, but they had to come from two down to beat Handsworth WMC. Andy Stevens pass set up Kieran Gallagher to put Handsworth ahead and soon after missing one chance, Liam Simmonite made it two with a smart finish. The Vine decided to shuffle things round and moved centre back Andy Marsh up front and the move quickly paid dividends when he headed home from a corner before flicking on for Rikki Davidson to send the teams in level at half time. The Vine were first to strike in the second half when Kevin Ford put them ahead, but Handsworth were soon level when Simmonite followed up after the keeper could only parry a shot. Stevens and Gallagher both had free kicks saved by The Vine keeper and his work paid off when Will Blakeney set up Lee Godwin to put The Vine back in front. Handsworth pushed all out for an equaliser and were inevitably caught on the break when Tyrone Lin added The Vine's fifth.

A John Ward double was the cornerstone of Stocksbridge Park Steels victory over Hemsworth Villa in a game that saw both sides carve out enough chances for a ten all draw. As it was Steels took more of theirs, with John McSevenney and Adam Todd also finding the net, but Villa were never out of the game, with Pete Burgin scoring from the penalty spot after he had been brought down in the area and another goal from Scott Westby. The teams paying their respects on Remembrance Sunday is shown below along with action from the game, including Pete Burgin scoring from the penalty spot.

Division 1 - Anvil leave Loxley in Ashers, while Top 4 all held

In Division One Matt Asher grabbed a hat-trick as Anvil came away from Loxley with the points and it saw them make up ground on all the teams above them as the top four all draw. Frazer Hartley gave Anvil an early advantage and Asher doubled their lead before half time. Loxley were having plenty of the game though, but despite carving out several chances, they couldn't take any of them. Anvil on the other hand seemed to take advantage every time a chance came their way and Asher added a third before Dan Hirst curled a fourth with his left foot. Anthony Marshall at last found the net for Loxley, but Anvil extended their lead again when James Wetherall marked his birthday with a goal from the penalty spot, before Asher completed his hat-trick when Anvil were awarded a second penalty.

Leaders Pitsmoor Royal Oak had twice had close wins against Brinsworth Whitehill in the last three weeks, so they knew they wouldn't find it easy and so it proved as Brinsworth ended Oak's perfect record. A Dean Forman own goal put Brinsworth ahead, but Oak hit back when Craig O'Brien set up Gavin Davis to level before Davis then flicked on for Elijah Lewis to put them ahead. After the break though Brinsworth levelled when Shaun Turner beat two men before scoring and they took the lead again when Aaron Turner struck. Pitsmoor threw everything at them after that and eventually levelled when Luke Parwana's (pictured left) free kick went through the wall and past the keeper, but this time they couldn't find a winner.

Woodhouse Angel had also not yet dropped a point and it looked as if that would continue when Richard Newey struck twice to give them a two goal lead, but soon after they lost the influential Chris Towey to a pulled hamstring and Ben Dronfield headed home Ryan Sorby's cross to reduce Niagara's arrears before half time. Angel still looked as if they would take all three points though until Niagara's second half showing got the reward it deserved when Sorby popped up with an equaliser with just two minutes remaining.

Third place Ranch went one better than Angel and let a three goal lead slip as fourth place Heeley Crown hit back for a point. Tom Hartley put Ranch ahead in the second minute and two Ian Buckley strikes seemed to have the game won for them, but Mick Eason pulled one back just before half time to give Crown the encouragement they needed and a much better second half by Crown saw Paddy O'Brien mark his return to the side with a goal before Eason produced a great finish to earn his side a point.

Anston Athletic looked to have earned themselves a point at Handsworth Old Boys after Simon Herberts goal had cancelled out Kieran Fairchild's effort for the home side, but it wasn't to be as a late strike by sub Rees Richards gave all three points to Handsworth.

Division 2 - Southey slam Birley, while Allen and Campbell both go four it

Both John Mellor and Gavin Pitts grabbed trebles as Division Two leaders Southey Social had eight different scorers in the Leagues highest score of the season against a sadly understrength Birley Moor News. Danny Lindley and Marcus Pass added doubles while Simon Jebson, Chris Roberts, Rob Womack and Todd Guest took Southey's total to fourteen without reply.

Colley's return to form continued as Lee Campbell (pictured right) hit four in their win at Highfield Old Crown. Lee Jackson tapped in the first, but after that it was the Campbell show as he time and again ripped the Crown defence apart. He scored his first three before Craig Smith and Eddie McErlain pulled two back for Crown, but any thoughts that Crown could get anything from the game were dismissed when Campbell hit his fourth.

Another four goal man was Kevin Allen, who hit all Old Harrow's goals in their 4-1 win over Oughtibridge Village. Village had been on a good run and it looked set to continue when Lee Smith put them ahead, but that was as good as it got for Village as Allen's four goal haul ended Old Harrow's three match losing sequence.

For the second week in a row a Scott Smith strike gave Rivelin victory over Fairbank-Rhodes. The previous week was in the Macron Cup and this time his single goal from a free kick was enough for Rivelin to leapfrog over Fairbank into second place. Fairbank twice hit the woodwork in the first half, but despite an impressive performance from Hilton Stratford, they couldn't respond after Smith's second half strike.

Red Lion climbed out of the bottom three with victory over Crookes & District, but it wasn't as comfortable as the 4-1 scoreline suggests and Lion were very grateful for a number of saves by keeper Neil Hawley. Darren Jarvis beat the offside trap to give Lion a first half lead against the run of play, but after Jarvis was brought down in the area early in the second half and Paul Turner slammed home the penalty, there was only going to be one winner. Kevin Bly added a third before David Fearnley netted for Crookes, but Lion had the final say when Ryan Barker (pictured left) scored a spectacular solo goal.

Billy Evans's fierce volley gave Aston Mayerton a first half lead at home to Junior Blades, but any thoughts Aston had that this would be easy were quickly dispelled when Joe Grapes finished off a flowing move to bring the Blades level. A Danny Law penalty then nudged the Blades in front and with little more than twenty minutes on the clock, Luke Thompson made it three. Law then hit the bar and if Tom Grapes had made more of his one-on-one with the Aston keeper they probably would have been out of sight, but Aston hit back in the second half to level with strikes from Luke Norfolk and David Sills, and they might have won it had Sam Llewellyn made more of a chance that came his way.

1 Nov - Macron Cup -  Millhouses Buckle under to Ranch hands

The only shock result of Round Three of the Macron Cup came at CBC Premier Millhouses Thermolast with Ian Buckley (pictured left) scoring the games only goal for Division One Ranch for Ranch’s second successive 1-0 victory over CBC Premier opponents. Millhouses Thermolast had plenty of possession, but with Ranch centre backs Carl Pearce and Ian Cooper holding firm, they found chances hard to come by. They also found Ranch keeper Mark Broadhurst in good form and when Tom Gardiner did get the ball past him it was ruled out for a push. Tom Hartley had a chance to give Ranch the lead when clean through only to be denied by Millhouses keeper Ash Gordon, but, with just nineteen minutes remaining, when Gordon could only parry a shot by Hartley, Ian Buckley snapped up the loose ball to hit the winner.

Another Division One team through is Pitsmoor Royal Oak after they won their all-Division One tie at Brinsworth Whitehill. A tight affair had remained goalless until just past the hour mark when a quick break by Brinsworth and a mistake by Darren Birchall ended with Danny Marsden giving them the lead, but Birchall made amends five minutes later when he set Elijah Lewis up for Pitsmoor’s equaliser. Lewis then added a second before outpacing the Brinsworth defence and squaring the ball for Scott Spzajer to make it safe for Pitsmoor.

Rivelin are Division Two's sole survivors after beating fellow Division Two side Fairbank-Rhodes. Josh Bermingham gave Rivelin the lead only to see Joe Knight’s looping shot cancel it out before half time. Bermingham took advantage of an error by the Fairbank keeper to give Rivelin the lead a second time only to see it cancelled out again when Scott Whittington netted from close range, but after Scott Smith (pictured left) put Rivelin ahead for a third time both Knight and Whittington missed chances to level again and Rivelin went through.

Woodhouse West End gained revenge for their 2005 Final defeat by coming away from Hemsworth Villa with a 3-1 victory. Villa gained the early advantage when Nick Owen was brought down in the area before picking himself up to score from the spot, but when referee Craig Grundy awarded a second penalty it was to West End and they levelled through Lee Dolan. Only a brilliant one handed under the crossbar by keeper John Badkin kept West End in front before half time, but the second half saw West End get on top and they took the lead when Grundy awarded a third penalty, scored this time by Joel Lee and Lee made the game safe when he added West End’s third.

Division One Anvil gave a great account of themselves by coming from behind three times before going out to CBC Premier leaders Ecclesfield 147. Gavin Hunter got to the byline before crossing for Jayson reeves to put 147 ahead, but Anvil were soon level when Matt Asher took advantage of a ball-watching defence. A piece of quick thinking by Danny Touhey set Reeves up to put 147 back in front, but Anvil levelled a second time through Asher, this time from the penalty spot. After 147 went in front third time when Ryan Keaney set Hunter up to score, Anvil hit back again through John Saville. When Hunter raced from one penalty area to another to give 147 the lead a fourth time, Anvil went flat out for another equaliser and they were inevitably caught on the break and Reeves completed his hat-trick to make sure for 147.

Another Division One side to give a good account of themselves at a CBC Premier side was Woodhouse Angel who made a real go of it at Yew Tree. James Wainwright put Tree ahead from a Scott Birch corner and Birch soon added a second from a Phil Cookson corner. Tree then got a piece of luck when keeper James Marks (pictured left) long clearance sailed over the Angel keeper to make it three and although Angel gave themselves a lifeline when Kirk Briddon scored, they then shot themselves in the foot by scoring an own goal. Angel didn’t give in though and after Lee Marshall pulled a second back, they put themselves right back in it when Chris Towey added a third. Tree then got a chance to compose themselves with the half time break and they took a grip of the game again when Mike Smith rifled home before Birch added his second and Tree’s sixth. More action from the game is shown below.

Steve Gee Merit Trophy - Handsworth Crowned by Heeley, while Aston shock Bulls Head

The two shocks in Round One of the Steve Gee Merit Trophy saw Heeley Crown and Aston Mayerton both come from two down to beat Handsworth WMC and Bulls Head respectively. Division One Crown's victory over CBC Premier Handsworth WMC was even more remarkable as they reduced to ten men after going two down. Crown had hit a post in a goalless first half, before Damen Blakemore set Liam Simmonite up to give Handsworth the lead and when Matt Sykes blocked the keeper’s clearance Kieran Gallagher tapped home the loose ball to double Handsworth’s lead it looked all over, especially as Crown then had a player dismissed. It only seem to galvanise Crown though and they pulled one back through Shaun Higginbottom before equalising with an own goal. The Handsworth defence was all over the place by this time and when Crown were awarded a penalty Gary Sidebottom stepped up to hit a very unlikely winner.

After another goalless first half Division One Bulls Head must have thought they were through when Jordan Barton and Tom Burlaga gave them a two goal lead, but after David Sills pulled one back for Aston, Adam Smith crossed for Tom Connelly to head an equaliser before Steven Jefferies chased a long ball and crossed for Smith to hit their winner.

Three other Division Two sides to join Aston in the next round are Colley, Southey Social and Red Lion after they all won ties against fellow Division Two sides. Lee Grocock’s header gave Colley the early advantage in their tie with Old Harrow, but Luke Jones cancelled it out before half time. After the break though Colley, with Lee Campbell causing havoc down the wing, took control and won it comfortably with a double from Lee Jackson and one from Richie Winkworth.

Southey Social’s new formation proved a success as they were the day's biggest hitters with a 9-3 victory over Highfield Old Crown. Marcus Pass hit three of them with Simon Jebson, John Mellor and Danny Lindley all adding two each, but Crown never gave up and richly deserved their three consolations by Danny Milner, Mick Rowntree and Lucas Baker.

Red Lion weren't far behind Southey as Adrian Von Wurzbach and Paul Turner both hit doubles in a 7-2 win at Crookes & District. Turner, Ryan Barker and Darren Jarvis had all scored in the first fifteen minutes and although they didn’t get any more in the first half, Turner and Dwayne Ellis both netted again before Von Wurzbach completed his double. A Matt Garnett free kick had briefly given Crookes some hope and after Neil Hawley in the Lion goal had saved a penalty, an own goal from the resulting corner was Crookes only other consolation.

The all-CBC Premier tie between Laycock Sports and Stocksbridge Park Steels was a real nine goal thriller. Steve Morris gave Laycock’s the lead with a thirty yard chip over the keeper and Sam Read doubled it before half time. After the break though it was Steels that stormed back and two from John Ward and one from Mitchell Savage looked to have put them through until just two minutes from time, Grant Parkin levelled from a John Kilcoyne corner. Extra time saw Scott Wesney put Laycock’s back in front with a spectacular overhead kick before Tom Register extended their lead and although Dale Shaw gave Steels some hope, they couldn’t force another.

The only other CBC Premier side left in is Civil Service, but they were given a real scare by Division Two The Park and Service needed a Karl Whitby penalty save (pictured left) and a Matt Meaney treble to squeeze through. Meaney gave Service the lead only to see Arron Walker level and although Kyle Harrison missed a penalty for Service, Service keeper Karl Whitby also saved one before Gareth Griffiths restored their lead. Lee Bridges equalised again before Meaney put Service ahead a third time and after sub Ben Lee levelled yet again Meaney became the third person to fail with a spot kick, but he did have the final say and completed his hat-trick with the winner.

Handsworth Old Boys had less trouble winning at Junior Blades with Adam Travis netting before Kieran Fairchild headed another for a 2-0 win.

The Macron Cup Round 4 draw has given the last remaining Division Two side Rivelin a home tie with either holders Stannington Village or Redmires. The full draw is: Pitsmoor Royal Oak v Woodhouse West End; Ranch v Ecclesfield 147; Niagara or The Vine v Yew Tree; Rivelin v Stannington Village or Redmires. Ties to be played on 6 December.

The Steve Gee Merit Trophy Round 2 draw has thrown together the only two remaining CBC Premier clubs Civil Service and Laycock Sports. The Full draw is Civil Service v Laycock Sports; Handsworth Old Boys v Aston Mayerton; Southey Social v Colley; Anston Athletic or Birley Moor News v Red Lion; Heeley Crown v Oughtibridge Village or Loxley. Ties to be played on 6 December.
