9 May - CBC Premier -  West End make Short work of Villa to take the title

An opening goal from Jason Short set Woodhouse West End on their way and he was involved again when Ash Atkins scored a second to give Woodhouse West End (pictured left) a 2-0 victory at Hemsworth Villa and with it a record equalling fourth consecutive League title. That result leaves Stannington Village as runners-up for a second consecutive season.

6 May - CBC Premier -  Senior treble cant stop Stannington, while Service win at Steels

Although the CBC Premier's current leading scorer Craig Senior netted a first half hat-trick for Ecclesfield 147, Stannington Village hit back to win with two each for Ali Mitchell and Tom Fletcher and one for Lee Johnstone to leave them just a point behind the leaders Woodhouse West End. West End could win the title on Sunday when they travel to Hemsworth Villa, but if West End don't win it leaves a title showdown between them and Stannington on Thursday 13 May.

The race to be the CBC Premier's leading scorer sees Senior four in front of Mitchell and Stannington still have one game to play, while Woodhouse West End's Joel Leigh is five behind and Woodhouse have two games to play.

Stannington Village continued their quest for the CBC Premier title by coming from two down at the break to beat Ecclesfield 147 5-3. Ali Mitchell gave Stannington an early lead, but their challenge looked to be in tatters when the CBC Premier’s leading scorer Craig Senior took his tally to twenty for the season with a first half hat-trick.

Stannington brought Shane Toulson on at the break and he turned the game their way with an assured display in midfield. He helped provide two for Tom Fletcher to bring the sides level and Stannington went in front when Mitchell grabbed his second and sixteenth of the season before Lee Johnstone netted a fifth to seal the win.

Civil Service came from behind at Stocksbridge Park Steels to record their highest ever finish in fourth. Ben Brown put Service ahead, but John Ward and Mark Barraclough strikes put Steels in front before the break. The second half saw Service play some terrific football and Brown’s second levelled it before Gaz Griffiths put them in front with a bullet header and Danny Fowler marked his return from injury by netting Service’s fourth.

Division 2 -  Campbell double makes his the League's joint top scorer

In Division Two the only issue left to decide was who would be the twentytwo sponsored League’s Leading Scorer. Southey’s John Mellor had finished the season on thirty one goals, but Colley’s Lee Campbell went into his side’s last match of the season at Junior Blades on twenty nine. Campbell made it thirty when he put Colley ahead and in the second half he drew level with Mellor with number thirty one.

After that Campbell came close to his third, he couldn’t quite manage it so he ended level with Mellor, but sponsors twentytwo are generously giving both players a pair of Golden Boots to mark their success. In the game Junior Blades briefly levelled with a Danny Law penalty, but Lee Grocock put Colley back in front before half time and Colley made sure they stayed unbeaten away from home for the season with further goals by Marcus Hucalak and Faisal Maladi in the second half.

Games played w/e 2 May - Macron Cup -  West End Birched by Tree

After Sheffield United's Promotion Manager Mick Rooker had been introduced to the teams and officials - see picture left, both teams started nervously and gave the ball away too easily, but within 10 minutes both had had good half chances to takes the lead. The first came Yew Tree’s way when Mark Dobbs played a great ball to Matt Jessermino who beat two defenders before hitting the target, but John Badkin the Woodhouse keeper saved easily. Woodhouse then went close through a fast break, but the last Yew Tree defender James Wainwright stopped it with a great.

With Yew Tree playing the better football, Ryan Cockayne and Scott Birch then missed half chances but Woodhouse responded when a set piece whipped into the penalty area was met by Woodhouse head, only for the ball to go agonizingly wide with Yew Tree keeper Steven Marshall beaten. Yew Tree hit back to go close again when a great ball by Phil Cookson opened up the Woodhouse defence, but after Adam Myers had made space for himself he failed to hit the target.

Woodhouse then started to get into the game more and a series of corners really put the pressure on the Yew Tree defence and it took a great Scott Beadsley clearance to stop the Woodhouse giant centre half Dave Kippax from scoring. The clearance was collected by Richard Gill who beat his marker but his final ball wasn’t good enough with the Woodhouse defence stretched.

Yew Tree then had an injury scare when skipper Scott Birch sustained a head injury which resulted in play being stopped for several minutes. Birch struggled through the remainder of the half with double vision and while he was struggling, two minutes before the break another set piece saw Woodhouse take the lead. A free kick wide right was delivered into the box and Dave Kippax lost his marker to head home from five yards - see picture right.

Yew Tree manager Brett Wainwright made one halftime change, bringing Mike Smith into the game and the change seemed to swing the game back into Yew Tree’s favour. Their one touch football was creating problems for the Woodhouse defence and on fifty three minutes they were deservedly level. Ben Bisatt won a great challenge inside the Yew Tree box before feeding Adam Myers. He touched onto Ryan Cockayne and his through ball found Scott Birch, who beat Dave Kippax before beating the keeper low to his right post - see picture right.

This shocked Woodhouse who struggled for the next ten minutes allowing Yew Tree to keep possession and on the hour Yew Tree nearly took the lead when Mark Dobbs sent Matt Jessermino clear, but his finish only troubled the seating behind goal.

Yew Tree made another change by putting sub Chris Leek going upfront and he nearly made the perfect impact when he hit a half volley from twenty five yards only to see it graze the woodwork with Badkin beaten, Woodhouse then made changes to try and get back into the match and for the next ten minutes it seemed to work as they had the majority of play and it needed a good save from keeper Marshall to keep the scores level following a free kick from the edge of the penalty area.

Yew Tree began to get back on top after that and with thirteen minutes remaining the game swung their way. Adam Myers played a ball wide left into Matt Jessermino who quickly switched play to the right allowing Richard Gill to beat his defender before crossing for the Kitlocker.com man of the match Scott Birch to head home his tenth goal of the cup campaign and send the Yew Tree supporters wild - see picture left.

Yew Tree then swapped Mark Dobbs for Chris Brooke to give defence some fresh legs, but with five minutes remaining it was keeper Marshall who kept the scores level. A quick Woodhouse break saw Jayson Short one-on-one with Marshall, but the keeper pulled off a fantastic save to keep Yew Tree in front.

That was as close as they got though and it was Yew Tree that looked the more likely to add to their score when a quick break saw Ben Bisatt put Jessermino in, but he delayed his shot and the Woodhouse defence recovered to clear their lines. Woodhouse couldn’t make any impression after that and when referee Mick Firth blew the final whistle Yew Tree and their supporters celebrated the club’s first ever major trophy.

Division 2 -  David Sills Promotion for Aston, while Junior Blades & Red Lion also win

A David Sills (pictured right) hat-trick helped Aston Mayerton seal the final automatic promotion place from Division Two with a 4-1 victory at Highfield Old Crown, while the Bermingham brothers both found the net to help Rivelin into fourth and the hope that a further promotion place might become available.

Sills opened the scoring in the first half and two in two minutes after the break from Sills and Josh Bell effectively sealed promotion before Andy Theakston pulled one back for their hosts. Aston and Sills had the final say though before the party began.

Rivelin are left hoping despite making sure of a fourth place finish when goals from Josh and Tom Bermingham gave them victory at The Park. Ben Lee managed a consolation for The Park, but they were always second best.

Adam Cawood was the day’s top scorer with four of his side’s goals as Junior Blades won 5-3 at Fairbank-Rhodes, while Red Lion needed a Ryan Barker winner at Old Harrow after Simon Major’s opener had been cancelled out by Joe Bilby.

Division 1 -  Radford treble lifts Brinsworth

In Division One, Jamie Radford was Brinsworth Whitehill’s hat-trick hero in the 4-1 victory over Anvil that has lefted them out of the bottom two. Division One’s top scorer Matt Asher hit his nineteen goal of the season to put Anvil in front but Radford’s first a minute before the interval gave Brinsworth just the encouragement they needed and two more from him and one from Aaron Turner gave them the victory that lifts them above Bulls Head and out of the bottom two.

CBC Premier -  Stannington keep up the title chase, but Redmires and The Vine are down

Stannington Village maintained their pursuit of the CBC Premier title with a victory over a The Vine side that is now relegated and going down with The Vine is Redmires after their defeat at Stocksbridge Park Steels.

Tom Fletcher took advantage of some heitant defending to give Stannington the lead and despite a furious response from The Vine, Shane Toulson hit them on the beak to double Stannington’s lead. Jack Mylnek added a third late on, but the game and The Vine’s one season stay in the top flight was over as a contest by then.

Redmires five season stint in the CBC Premier came to an end with defeat at Stocksbridge Park Steels. Adam Todd gave Steels the lead before Redmires fate was clinched by further goals from Steels’ Craig Barraclough and Kevin Davies.

27 April - Division 1 -  Radford treble lifts Brinsworth as Anvil say goodbye

Jamie Radford hit a hat-trick as Brinsworth Whitehill beat an Anvil side playing its last ever game. The win was enough for Brinsworth to climb one place and go above Bulls Head.

Division 2 -  David Sills Promotion for Aston, while Junior Blades & Red Lion also win

A hat-trick by David Sills sealed promotion for Aston Mayerton as they beat Highfield Old Crown, while Adam Caywood hit four in Junior Blades victory at Fairbank-Rhodes and Ryan Barker hit Red Lion's winner at Old Harrow.

Report of games played 20, 22 & 25 April 2010

The past week has seen the CBC Premier title race have plenty of twists and turns, with first Woodhouse West End looking to have taken a title winning lead, then Stannington Village looking to have fought their way back into it, before then handing the initiative back to West End.

The week started with Stannington knowing that victory was almost a must when they travelled to West End and it started well for the visitors when a David Shepherd free kick gave them a first half lead. West End weren’t going to let the title slip easily though and when Joel Leigh’s free kick was saved by the keeper, Dale Fuller pounced to level. The title race soon looked all over when Leigh was brought down in the area and he picked himself up to give West End the lead from the spot, but when Dave Kippax and keeper John Badkin got themselves into a tangle, Joe Barker pounced to leave it all square.

Two days later they both had to play again and second half goals by Tom Fletcher, Sean Flynn and Sami Eric gave Stannington a comfortable 3-0 home win over Laycock Sports, West End went down to a shock defeat at home to bottom of the table Redmires. It was only West End’s fourth home defeat in six seasons, but after Sean Downing had scrambled the ball home early in the game, Redmires, with stand in keeper Luke Siggs looking confident and Nick Hickson a rock in front of him, rarely looked as if they would relinquish their lead.

The weekend looked to be pushing the title even further towards Stannington when Tom Fletcher gave them a half time lead at Hemsworth Villa, while West End fell behind in their Macron Cup Final rehearsal at Yew Tree when Chris Leek raced onto a through ball to lob the keeper, but just before the interval, man-of-the-match Dale Fuller played a neat one-two with Joel Leigh before smashing the ball into the bottom corner and with just five minutes remaining in both games two more twists came along.

An own goal gave West End victory at Yew Tree, while sub Jim Linfoot levelled with a header against Stannington and just when Stannington thought they had grabbed an even later winner, Peter Braybrook popped up to clear off the line. It means that one more win for West End will see them take a record equalling fourth successive title.

Despite their defeat by West End, Yew Tree had eased their relegation fears a few days earlier with victory over a Civil Service side that hadn’t lost this year. Mark Dobbs headed home a Matt Jessermino free kick in the first half and they doubled their lead with a Scott Birch penalty after the break. Service didn’t give up though and after Chris Fowler had pulled one back they went flat out to keep that unbeaten run going, but Yew Tree held on.

The Vine couldn’t match them though, despite taking the lead at Hemsworth Villa with a Rikki Davidson penalty after Will Blakeney had been brought down. Villa didn’t want to get dragged into the relegation fray though and two Robert Gorman strikes after the break put them in front. The Vine hit back to take a point with a Tom McGowan strike, but it might not be enough.

It’s been an eventful week in Division One as former League Champions Woodhouse Angel confirmed their return to the top flight as Division One champions with a 5-0 victory over Anvil. It was a nervy start by Angel, but a first half Adam Dickinson goal helped them relax and in the second half they overpowered their visitors. Ryan Batham, Karl Colley and Chris Towey all got on the scoresheet along with a second from Dickinson.

Four days later Angel again showed their power by hammering next to bottom Brinsworth Whitehill 7-1. Colley started the rout before Luke Browse netted his first of the season. Dickinson then made it three before Jamie Radford pulled one back for the visitors. That was as good as it got for Brinsworth though as the second half saw Colley complete his hat-trick and Gareth Simons and Ryan Batham both find the net.

Pitsmoor Royal Oak make an instant return to the CBC Premier as runners-up, clinching their place with a 4-0 home win over Heeley Crown. Eli Lewis set Leon Stocks up to head them into the lead and Scott Spzajer doubled it from outside the area. Lewis made the result a formality with a third before half time and he had the final say with his second after the break.

The third automatic place was still up for grabs though. Ranch beat Bulls Head in midweek thanks to Richard Berry’s fifth minute opener and a second by Tom Hartley before the break. Bulls Head had a better second half and Joe Keighley eventually pulled one back, but Ranch held on.

That meant that Ranch just needed to win their final game at Anston Athletic and even a draw would be sufficient provided Loxley didn’t beat Pitsmoor Royal Oak by three clear goals. A disputed penalty scored by Richard Berry gave Ranch a second half lead, but things went well for Loxley when Anston fought back to draw with a Tom Gabbitas strike and Loxley took the lead in their game when Ed Wickett’s shot was deflected past the Oak keeper.

Any promotion hopes that Loxley had quickly disappeared as Leon Stocks, Gavin Davis and Craig Graham put Oak 3-1 in front and although Loxley fought back to level through Anthony Marshall and a Simon Mirfin header, their dream was finally over as Scott Spzajer raced away to win it for Oak and Ranch claimed their second promotion in as many seasons.

Niagara made a late bid to climb off the foot of Division One with a 4-1 midweek victory at Heeley Crown. Two Tom Staniforth strikes put them in control and although Crown pulled one back when Gary Dixon hit the best goal of the night, Craig Foster and Craig Lonsdale strikes sealed a rare win for Niagara. That good work was undone at the weekend though when they crashed to a similar scoreline at home to Anvil. Matt Asher gave Anvil a half time lead and Dean Jepson doubled it with a free kick soon after the break. Asher second soon followed and although Chris Smith pulled one back for Niagara, Jepson’s second made sure a fight back wasn’t on.

In Division Two, Colley made certain of their first ever promotion by crushing Birley Moor News 6-1. Ian Sharland grabbed two but Lee Campbell stole the show with four to keep himself in the running for the twentytwo Golden Boot award and he would have had another had he scored with a penalty.

Colley then went on to earn a point from a 2-2 draw at Red Lion. They were twice behind to Simon Major and Simon Cable strikes, but Adam Jackson cancelled them out each time. Colley were twice behind again against The Park at the weekend, but Greg Ramsden and Ian Martin strikes for The Park were cancelled out by Carl McDonald’s double. After that it turned into a romp for Colley as Craig Hanson, Neil Whitworth and Lee Campbell were all on target.

Aston Mayerton looked set to claim the third automatic promotion place when they came from behind to win 3-1 at Old Harrow. Pat Lynch gave the hosts an interval lead, but a Scott McKenna penalty evened things up, before a David Sills double gave Aston the points. They missed their chance to make promotion certain at the weekend though when they were held to a draw by Junior Blades. Adam Caywood and Robert Brookfield goals looked to have won it for the Blades until a Ross Edwards penalty and a Scott McKenna header in the last three minutes earned Aston a point.

That gave a glimmer of hope to Rivelin who had kept their hopes alive in midweek when a Thomas Bermingham screamer into the top corner gave Rivelin victory at Fairbank-Rhodes and six days later Ben Pickup, Danny Stead, Scott Smith and a Josh Bermingham double saw them beat Old Harrow 5-0.

Elsewhere in Division Two, Southey Social celebrated winning the title in style with a 4-0 victory at The Park. Full back Gavin Pitts started the scoring and that was followed by a John Mellor double before half time and a Todd Guest header in the second half. Red Lion looked set to finish fifth after a Simon Major hat-trick helped them to a 6-2 victory over Fairbank-Rhodes. Joe Mothersole, Mark Richards and Ryan Barker netted Lion’s others, while a Michael Holmes double had briefly given Fairbank hope.

25 April - CBC Premier -  West End back in control as Villa hold Stannington, but Millhouses are down

An own goal just five minutes from time saw Woodhouse West End win their Macron Cup Final dress rehearsal with Yew Tree and they need just one more win to be champions as Stannington Villa were held by a Jim Linfoot strike for Hemsworth Villa late in the game. Millhouses Thermolast are relegated after they let a two goal lead slip at Civil Service, but Loxley made their place safe with victory at Handsworth WMC.

Division 1 -  Ranch are up as Loxley slip up against Pitsmoor, Niagara finish bottom

Despite being held by Anston Athletic, Ranch are promoted, as Loxley were beaten by Pitsmoor Royal Oak, while new champions Woodhouse Angel celebrated in style as Karl Colley hit three in a 7-1 romp against Brinsworth Whitehill. Niagara finish bottom after a home defeat by Anvil.

Division 2 -  Aston still need a point after being held by Blades

Aston Mayerton still need a point to take the third automatic promotion place after being held by Junior Blades, while Rivelin kept up the chase with victory over Old Harrow. Colley are as good as certain for the runners-up spot after beating The Park. There was other wins for Red Lion and Highfield Old Crown.

22 April - CBC Premier -  Redmires shock leaders to blow title race open again

A first half Sean Downing (pictured right goal was enough for bottom club Redmires to beat the leaders Woodhouse West End, while second place Stannington Village beat a Laycock Sports still not clear of danger. Yew Tree helped their bid to beat the drop by ending Civil Service's 2010 unbeaten record and a late Tom McGowan strike earned The Vine a point at Hemsworth Villa.

Division 1 -  Angel take the title, Pitsmoor Royal Oak are Runners-up, and Ranch back in the promotion frame

Adam Dickinson struck twice as leaders Woodhouse Angel beat Anvil to clinch the title and Elijah Lewis also grabbed a brace as Pitsmoor Royal Oak made the runners-up spot safe with victory over Heeley Crown, while Ranch climbed back into the promotion frame with a home win over Bulls Head.

Division 2 -  Aston just need one more win, while last gasp Colley grab a point

Helped by a David Sills double, Aston Mayerton came from behind to win at Old Harrow and they now need one more win to go up. John Mellor took his season's tally to thirty one, with a double in Southey Socials win at The Park, while second place Colley need a last gasp Adam Jackson strike to get a point at Red Lion.

20 April - CBC Premier -  Title looks to be heading to the West End

Despite Dale Fuller and Joel Leigh goals, Woodhouse West End were held to a draw by title rivals Stannington Village, but it wasn't enough for Stannington to open up the title race as they stay eight points behind West End.

Division 1 -  Crown slide continues as Niagara get rare win

Heeley Crown's dramatic slide down the table continued as they were beaten at home by bottom club Niagara.

Division 2 -  Colley go up in style, while Rivelin go fourth

Colley guaranteed a first ever promotion as four goal Lee Campbell led them to a 6-1 win at Birley Moor News, while a late Thomas Bermingham screamer gave Rivelin victory at Fairbank-Rhodes, allowing them to leapfrog their hosts into fourth place. Highfield Old Crown came from behind to draw at Oughtibridge Village.

Report of games played 13, 15 & 18 April 2010

It was a good week for Woodhouse West End as the reigning champions took two further steps towards taking the title for a record equaling fourth consecutive time with victories over two of the sides battling to stay in the CBC Premier Division.

The Vine were first up and after holding West End in the first half, they were undone by a huge clearance by keeper John Badkin and Jason Short applied the finishing touch. Spencer Taylor then took Dale Fuller’s pass in his stride to double their lead and although Jamie Moore pulled one back for The Vine, Joel Leigh and David Haley strikes made it comfortable for West End. Next up was Redmires and although they battled hard to contain the champions, an Ashley Atkins strike in the first half and a Jason Short goal ten minutes from time sent the points West End’s way.

Stannington Village are the only side that could deny West End the title, but in midweek, despite Ali Mitchell giving them a half time lead at Laycock Sports, they faltered when Sam Read hit an equalizer for the home side and they had to settle for a point. They did better at the weekend though as they ended Ecclesfield 147’s title challenge. Matt Clark put Ecclesfield ahead, but Shane Toulson leveled before half time and a Mitchel double and a first goal for Sami Eric saw Stannington comfortably home.

Ecclesfield 147’s challenge was as good as over before that when they lost at home in midweek to Macron Cup Finalists Yew Tree. Mark Woodcock supplied the pass for Scott Birch to shoot and although the keeper got a hand to it he couldn’t keep it out and it proved enough to give Yew Tree the points.

Yew Tree’s second midweek game saw them travel to a Millhouses Thermolast that was just a place above them. Birch gave Tree the perfect start and James Wainwright doubled their lead before Tom Higginbottom pulled one back, but Tree weren’t in the mood to let the points slip and another from Birch and a Richard Gill header made it two wins in three days.

Yew Tree couldn’t make t three in a row though when they faced their most local rivals Stocksbridge Park Steels at the weekend and despite Birch and Matt Jessermino both hitting the woodwork it was Steels who went home with the points when John Ward poked home the loose ball with just ten minutes remaining. It was Steels second win of the week after Mark Barraclough and another from Ward had given them a 2-0 victory over a Handsworth WMC looking for a top four finish and those wins secured their place in the top flight for another season.

Yew Tree stayed out of the bottom three as Millhouses Thermolast and The Vine followed their midweek defeats by fighting out a goalless draw with each other. Tom Gardiner had a goal ruled out for Millhouses, but The Vine had the better chances and as well as Jamie Moore hitting a post, it need to spectacular saves by Mark Davies to stop The Vine from winning it, although the point was more use to The Vine that it was to Millhouses.

Laycock Sports aren’t out of danger despite their point against Stannington as they followed it up with yet another home defeat, this time at the hands of Civil Service. Both sides spurned good chances until Laycock’s keeper Grant Parkin gave away a penalty that was expertly put away by Matt Meaney to kkep Service firmly in the hunt for a first ever top four finish.

Redmires look even more certainties for the drop. As well as that defeat by Woodhouse west End they could only take a point at home to Hemsworth Villa. Redmires were boosted by a very early goal from Dale White, but it was quickly cancelled out by Robert Gorman and despite both sides having chances, it was the end of the scoring.

Villa’s chances of a top four finish were further hit at the weekend when they let a lead slip before losing to Handsworth WMC. Carl Bowler’s through ball allowed Mark Ashton to go on and put Handsworth ahead after just thirty seconds and mainly thanks to two great saves by Villa keeper Jamie King, it was the only goal of the first half, Villa didn’t waste any time after the break to level when Matt Holmes brought Nick Owen down in the area and Owen scored from the spot. Mark Hopkinson then put Villa ahead. King made two more great saves, but when Ryan Taylor was felled in the area, Carl Eaton levelled from the spot and Ashton then put Kieran Gallagher through for him to curl the winner from the edge of the area.

In Division One, Woodhouse Angel are on the verge of taking the title, but it wasn’t easy as they were first held by relegation threatened Bulls Head before getting a narrow victory over Ranch. In midweek, Kerry Dixon headed Bulls Head in front before Karl Colley equalised, but Bulls Head went back in front with a Matt Coates free kick. Angel hit back a second time through Gareth Simons, but they had to settle for just a point.

Angel faced fellow promotion chasers Ranch and after a goalless first half Angel started the second half with Gareth Simons hitting the woodwork. It looked as if they were going to be unlucky a second time when Chris Towey hit the bar, but the ball fell kindly for Kirk Briddon to put home the rebound.

That was the second blow in a week to Ranch’s promotion bid as in midweek, the only team that can catch them, Loxley, beat them 2-1. Simon Mirfin and Anthony Marshall strikes gave Loxley a two goal half time lead and although Ian Buckley scramble one home for Ranch, they couldn’t find an equaliser.

Loxley followed that up with a home draw with Handsworth Old Boys. Anthony Marshall put them ahead with a free kick that was more of a cross than a shot, but Kieran Fairchild levelled for Handsworth and only a terrific Matt Lingard save enabled Loxley to take the point they needed to go third.

Anston Athletic made it seven wins out of nine with two wins in four days. A Simon Herberts double helped them to a narrow 4-3 victory over Anvil and Herberts was on target again as they beat relegation threatened Niagara 4-0, That defeat combined with a midweek home defeat by Handsworth Old Boys means Niagara are condemned to a bottom two finish.

In Division Two, new champions Southey Social continued their domination with a five goal victory over Fairbank-Rhodes, while a Lee Campbell double and one from Lee Grocock helped Colley to all but book their promotion with a 3-1 victory over Old Harrow. Old Harrow then helped Colley’s cause still further when they went to Aston Mayerton and came away with a shock 2-1 victory. Scott McKenna gave Aston the lead, but a Liam Peace overhead kick and a goal on the break by Joe Bilby won it for the visitors.

Earlier in the week Aston had extended their unbeaten run to eight games when they came from behind to beat Red Lion. Ross Edwards levelled from the spot after Scott Hall had been fouled and Josh Bell put them ahead before McKenna sttled it with a third.

Rivelin kept up their chase with two wins in three days. Josh and Tom Bermingham both found the net along with a Callum Short penalty to give them a 3-0 win at Birley Moor News and two days later, after Darren Jarvis had given Red Lion the lead, Tom Bermingham was on target again to level before Josh Wright hit the winner.

The Park also grabbed two wins in three days with Lee Bridges scoring in both a 3-1 win at Junior Blades and a 2-1 home win over Oughtibridge Village, while Birley Moor News suffered another five goal defeat at Fairbank-Rhodes.

18 April - CBC Premier -  West End open up an eight point gap, but bottom five draw blanks

While Stannington Village were beating Ecclesfield 147, Woodhouse West End won at Redmires to go eight points clear at the top. That defeat for Redmires leaves them stuck in the bottom three, but they didn't lose much ground as the rest of the bottom five all failed to score a goal between them. Millhouses Thermolast and The Vine played out a goalless draw, Yew Tree were beaten by a single John Ward goal for local rivals Stocksbridge Park Steels and Laycock Sports fell to a Matt Meaney penalty for Civil Service. Handsworth WMC came from behind to beat Hemsworth Villa - pictured right is Mark Ashton opening the scoring for Handsworth.

Division 1 -  Woodhouse Angel fly high, while Loxley move into third

A singel Kirk Briddon strike saw Woodhouse Angel win at Ranch and go seven points clear and that defeat saw Ranch slip out of the top three, but it might have been worse for them as it went to a Loxley side that was held by Handsworth Old Boys. Anston Athletic kept their good run going with victory over Niagara - a defeat that means that Niagara are now certain to finish in the bottom two.

Division 2 -  Aston find promotion chase Harrow-ing

Aston Mayerton's promotion bid got stuck in a rut as Old Harrow came from behind to score a surprise win and Fairbank-Rhodes' bid was hit by defeat at Southey Social

15 April - CBC Premier -  Stannington miss out, but Yew Tree out of bottom three

Stannington Village were held to a draw at Laycock Sports and lost further ground in the title race, but Yew Tree climbed out of the bottom three with a win at Millhouses Thermolast, who are now in the bottom three (action from the game is right). Also in danger is Redmires as they could only get a point at home to Hemsworth Villa

Division 1 -  Angel cant beat a bit of Bully, but Loxley boost their promotion bid

Leaders Woodhouse Angel had to twice come from behind before settling for a point at home to relegation threatened Bulls Head, while Loxley boosted their chances of a top three finish with victory over a Ranch side they are now level on points with. Niagara look doomed after a home defeat by Handsworth Old Boys, while Anston Athletic are safe after a home win over Anvil.

Division 2 -  Fairbank-Rhodes, Rivelin and The Park all get vital wins

Rivelin came from behind to win at promotion rivals Red Lion and they stay level on points with Fairbank-Rhodes who beat Birley Moor News. The Park also won at home to Oughtibridge Village.

13 April - CBC Premier -  West End take charge as Ecclesfield are Birch-ed by Yew Tree

With Ecclesfield 147 falling to a Scott Birch strike for relegation threatened Yew Tree, four second half goals saw Woodhouse West End open up a five point gap at the top of the CBC Premier. Stocksbridge Park Steels eased their relegation fears with a home win over Handsworth WMC.

Division 2 -  Aston cheer up Billy, but Junior Blades blunted by The Park

Aston Mayerton's Billy Evans had a broken arm pinned today after suffering a break in a recent, but his team mates cheered him up by coming from behind to beat Red Lion and move level on points with second place Colley, but Junior Blades automatic promotion hopes are over after a second home defeat by The Park. Rivelin stayed in the promotion hunt with a comfortable 3-0 win at Birley Moor News.

11 April - Report of games played 6, 8 & 11 April

Ashley Atkins (pictured left) hit a treble as Woodhouse West End's beat Ecclesfield 147 to take their place at the top of the CBC Premier and the day got even better for West End as their chief rivals Stannington Village were held to a goalless draw by Handsworth WMC.

Atkins gave West End an early lead and David Haley took advantage of a mistake by the keeper to double it before half time. 147 got back into it a minute into the second half through Craig Senior, but Atkins headed his second to restore West End’s advantage. Ryan Keeney then scored 147’s second and he netted their third, but Spencer Taylor had added West End’s fourth in between to keep West End in front and Atkins made it safe when West End were awarded a penalty, even though his first effort was saved, the ball came back to him to fire home.

Stannington Village had beaten both Millhouses Thermolast and The Vine in midweek to put themselves firmly back in the title race, but a Handsworth WMC that had drawn with Woodhouse West End in midweek kept that form going and helped by a terrific goalkeeping performance by eighteen year old Steven Booth they frustrated Stannington by holding them to a goalless draw.

After twice coming from behind to earn a point against in-form Civil Service, Redmires further improved their chances of beating the drop as David Knaggs hit a hat-trick to help them to victory over fellow strugglers Yew Tree. Yew Tree’s Ryan Cockayne almost put his side ahead when he hit a post, but when James Wainwright’s clumsy challenge gifted Redmires a penalty, Knaggs made no mistake to put his side ahead. Knaggs then grabbed two more either side of half time, before Nick Hickson’s overhead kick gave Redmires a 4-0 win and a real chance of avoiding relegation, but it’s beginning to look bleak for Macron Cup finalists Yew Tree.

Despite their midweek defeat, The Vine also improved their chances of avoiding the drop when a last gasp Jamie Moore goal gave them victory at Stocksbridge Park Steels. Rikki Davidson’s cross was put away by Kevin Ford to give The Vine the lead and although it was cancelled out by John Ward, Davidson intercepted a back pass to put The Vine back in front (see picture right). It looked like Steels would take a point though when Adam Todd netted a second equalizer, but with time virtually up Jamie Moore lobbed the Steels keeper to win it for The Vine.

Todd had scored twice for Stocksbridge in a midweek win at Laycock Sports that gave them some breathing space, but Laycock Sports bounced back to beat Millhouses Thermolast and now look just about safe. In the final minute before half time Sam Read scored from John Kilcoyne’s corner and Chris Gill grabbed a second following a rare mistake by Millhouses keeper Mark Davies. Gill added his second after the break and it was just as well as Danny Turner netted two goals for Millhouses in the final minute.

Following their midweek draw with Redmires, Civil Service remained unbeaten in the league this year after a Matt Meaney penalty earned them another draw at Hemsworth Villa. Mark Hopkinson robbed a defender to cross for put Villa ahead with a glancing header and in a first half dominated by Villa only the woodwork and a terrific save by Carl Whitby stopped Matt Bray adding a second. Service hit back in the second half though and they got the point they deserved when Ryan Powell brought Matt Meaney down in the area and Meaney picked himself up to score from the spot  (see picture below left, along with other action from the game).

Woodhouse Angel guaranteed promotion and took over at the top of Division One when a last minute goal from sub Richard Newey (pictured right) gave them victory over Niagara, and, despite twice losing the lead at Ranch, Pitsmoor Royal Oak are as good as promoted because of their far superior goal difference over fourth place Loxley.

Helped by two Ryan Batham strikes, Angel had beaten Anvil 4-1 in midweek, but their plans seemed to be going up in smoke when Craig Lonsdale gave Niagara the lead. Angel responded by hitting the woodwork twice before Kirk Briddon leveled and a sublime chip from Chris Towey gave them a half time lead. It looked like Niagara had earned an unlikely point when Craig Foster leveled for them until Newey came up with the last gasp winner to set off Angel’s promotion party.

Victory for Pitsmoor Royal Oak against third place Ranch would also have guaranteed their promotion, but even though Ranch twice fought back to hold them to a draw, barring a mathematical miracle, the point looks enough to put Oak up anyway. Elijah Lewis twice gave Oak the lead but Chris Hall and Richard Cameron strikes earned Ranch the point that could also help them to promotion.

Brinsworth Whitehill had lost to Ranch in midweek and another defeat at Handsworth Old Boys would have seen their relegation confirmed, but second half goals from Jamie Radford and Danny Marsden gave Brinsworth victory to keep them still in with a chance of avoiding the drop and leave Handsworth still needing  some points to be absolutely safe themselves.

Anvil stayed out of the bottom three with four points out of nine in the week. Joe Woodhouse scored twice in a 5-1 win at Heeley Crown, but two days later they lost 4-1 at home to Woodhouse Angel. That meant their game with Bulls Head took on greater importance and it looked good for Anvil when Matt Asher put them ahead. Tom Balaga leveled for Bull, but Anvil took control with another from Asher and one from Danny Billard. Things then turned sour as a Ben Cobley double and one from Mark Bryant looked to have won it for Bulls Head, until a late Richard Ashton goal saved a point for Anvil.

Heeley Crown could now be in danger after their midweek defeat by Anvil and a narrow defeat at Anston Athletic. Crown started the game with just eight fit players and it looked like they would be on the wrong end of a thrashing when an own goal and one from Adam Russell gave Anston a two goal lead, but Crown rallied and were unlucky to not get a point after Matt Roebuck pulled one back with a stunning twenty five yarder.

Southey Social (pictured left) took the Division Two title in style with an emphatic victory over Crookes & District. There was nothing between the sides in the first half and it took a quickly taken free kick to allow Simon Jebson to open the scoring two minutes before the break. It was a different story after the break, with John Mellor taking his season’s tally to twenty eight with two and Chris Roberts also hitting two to stay right behind him in the chase to be the League’s leading scorer. Todd Guest and Rob Womack also put their names on the scoresheet as Southey ran out 7-0 winners.

Second place Colley look set to join them after a good away win at Rivelin. Nick Glover put Colley ahead in the first half and Lee Campbell doubled it soon after the break and a Neil Whitworth penalty made it three. Campbell then crossed for Faisal Maladi to glance home a fourth before Rivelin grabbed two late consolations through Josh and Thomas Bermingham

Third place Aston Mayerton also look good for promotion after two away wins in four days. They looked to be heading for a comfortable win at Birley Moor News when Billy Evans’ left foot, Scott McKenna’s header and David Sills cool finish put them three up, but Rees Betts pulled one back just before the break. It looked like Aston would have to settle for a point when Ashley Hughes and Brett Turton strikes brought Birley level, but in the final minute Adam Smith’s perfect corner found Scott Hall’s head to win it for Aston.

Aston made equally hard work of it against The Park at the weekend when Matt Chafer and Lee Adnett strikes gave the home side a two goal half time lead, but inspired by skipper Scott McKenna (pictured right) Aston turned it round in the second half. McKenna chipped home their first before a David Sills forced a defender into turning the ball past his own keeper. McKenna then hit an unstoppable shot to put Aston ahead and he completed his hat-trick to make the three points safe with a well placed free kick.

Red Lion are still in the reckoning after beating also beating The Park and Birley Moor News. Lion trailed The Park in midweek after Shannon Marsland put the home side ahead, but late goals from Simon Major and Kevin Bly pinched the points for Lion. They were both on target again against Birley Moor News four days later, but it also needed goals from Lewis Barker, Paul Turner, Joe Mothersole and Tom Griffiths to finally overcome their stubborn visitors who stayed in the hunt for much of the game with two goals from Jason Naylor and one from Rees Betts.

Junior Blades kept up the chase after a single Tom Grapes strike gave them victory over Fairbank-Rhodes and had the Blades not been thrashed 5-1 by Rivelin a few days earlier they would have been a lot closer. Thomas Bermingham hit two of the five and he was also on target in a 2-2 midweek draw at Crookes & District, as Crookes’ Karl Fox took his tally to twenty one goals in just eleven games with both of his side’s goals.

Old Harrow gave themselves a chance of avoiding re-election after a 5-0 victory over a Highfield Old Crown that now look certain for a bottom three finish. Joe Bilby hit two of them, while the others came from Martin Shaw, Luke Peace and Richard Brosnan.

11 April - CBC Premier -  Atkins diet too rich for Ecclesfield, while Redmires Knagg Yew Tree

Ashley Atkins hit a treble as Woodhouse West End's beat Ecclesfield 147 to take their place at the top of the CBC Premier and the day got even better for West End as their chief rivals Stannington Village were held to a goalless draw by Handsworth WMC. Redmires improved their chances of beating the drop as David Knaggs hit a hat-trick to help them to victory over fellow strugglers Yew Tree and The Vine also improved their chances as a last gasp Jamie Moore goal gave them victory at Stocksbridge Park Steels. Laycock Sports look just about safe after victory over a Millhouses Thermolast who's position looks perilous, while Civil Service remain unbeaten in the league this year after a Matt Meaney penalty earned them a point at Hemsworth Villa

Division 1 -  Angel promoted and Royal Oak need just a point, while Brinsworth make late bid for survival

Woodhouse Angel guaranteed promotion and took over at the top of Division One after a last minute Richard Newey goal gave them victory over Niagara, and, despite twice losing the lead at Ranch, Pitsmoor Royal Oak are as good as promoted because of their far superior goal difference over fourth place Loxley. Brinsworth Whitehill still have a chance of avoiding the drop after victory at Handsworth Old Boys, but Bulls Head missed the chance to climb out of the bottom three by letting a late Mark Bryant goal for Anvil rob them of victory, and Heeley Crown could now be in danger after defeat at Anston Athletic.

Division 2 -  Southey take the title and it's looking good for Colley and Aston

Southey Social took the Division Two title in style with an emphatic victory over Crookes & District and second place Colley look set to join them after a good away win at Rivelin. Third place Aston Mayerton also look good for promotion after they came from two down to get a precious three points at The Park, but Junior Blades kept up the chase with victory over Fairbank-Rhodes and Red Lion are still in the reckoning after beating Birley Moor News. Old Harrow gave themselves a chance of avoiding re-election after victory over Highfield Old Crown.

8 April - CBC Premier -  Stannington close up as West End miss chance to go top

Stannington Village beat The Vine and their second win in three days saw them close the gap on the CBC Premier's top two as Woodhouse West End missed the chance to go top after losing a two goal lead to draw with Handsworth WMC. The Vine's defeat leaves them four points adrift of safety and Macron Cup Finalists Yew Tree's position in the CBC Premier also looks in peril after losing at Hemsworth Villa. Redmires twice came from behind to draw with Civil Service, but they are seven adrift of safety, while Stocksbridge Park Steels look safe after victory at Laycock Sports.

Division 1 -  Angel back on top and Ranch back up in third

Woodhouse Angel are back on top of Division One after victory at Anvil, while Ranch climbed back into the automatic promotion places with a narrow victory at Brinsworth Whitehill, while Handsworth Old Boys place looks more secure after victory over a Niagara that is still eight points adrift of safety.

Division 2 -  Last gasp winner lifts Aston as Fairbank-Rhodes are held

A last gasp Scott Hall winner at Birley Moor News saw Division Two's third place club Aston Mayerton widen the gap below them as Fairbank-Rhodes lost a two goal lead in the last five minutes and could only draw at Highfield Old Crown, while Junior Blades were thrashed by Rivelin. Red Lion came from behind to win at The Park.

6 April - CBC Premier -  Stannington lifted by Barker double

A Joe Barker double and one from Aaron Worsfold saw Stannington Village beat Millhouses Thermolast 3-0 and go back up to third.

Division 1 -  Anvil hammer Crown

Joe Woodhouse netted twice as Anvil's poor run ended with a 5-1 victory at Heeley Crown.

Division 2 -  Fox double Rivelin hit back for point

A Karl Fox double took his tally to eight goals in three games, but Crookes & District were held by a last gasp Rivelin equaliser

4 April - Tim Healy presents the latest Merit Awards

Best known for playing Dennis Patterson in the television series Auf Wiedersehen, Pet, Tim Healey, one of Britain’s most recognised actors, became the latest personality to present the League's Merit Awards. The Merit Award went to Southey Social after their run of eight wins and a draw, while Crookes & District's goalscoring sensation Karl Fox took the Peak Performer Award after scoring 12 goals in his first six games.

4 April - Combined report covering games on 1 & 4 April

Laycock Sports took two big steps towards securing their CBC Premier status with two wins over two of the other sides involved in the battle against relegation. In midweek they travelled to Redmires and it didn’t look too good at half time as James Kirkham had headed home an Andy Jones cross to put Redmires in front, but the second half started with Laycock’s defender Adam Clarke netting his first goal for the club with a bullet header. Laycocks then went on to dominate the half and Sam Read put them in front with an audacious forty yard chip, before Chris Gill and Lloyd McPherson scored two more to seal victory for Laycocks.

Four days later they went to third bottom The Vine and this time it was Laycock’s that struck early when Sam Read scored after just two minutes. The Vine then hit back strongly and after hitting the bar a couple of times, Rikki Davidson equalised in the second half. It looked as if they would go on to win it, but two more efforts came back off the woodwork and in a rare break, Lloyd McPherson netted Laycocks winner after The Vine’s keeper had failed on to the ball.

After securing their place in the Macron Cup Final, Yew Tree also set about getting some much needed league points with a 1-0 home win over Handsworth WMC. The visitors did much of the early running and Carl Eaton hit the bar and Mark Ashton a post. Kieran Gallagher, Matt Sykes and Carl Bowler all went close, but Chris leek carved out a couple of chances for Yew Tree before they won it when Mark Dobbs converted Richard Gill’s corner.

Still in danger is Millhouses Thermolast after their six game unbeaten run was ended by a Handsworth WMC that ended it’s own run of four games without a win with a 4-1 victory. Although Tom Higginbottom hit the post for Millhouses it was Handsworth that took the lead when Robert Pratt’s through ball saw Mark Ashton race away to score and when Kieran Gallagher was brought down in the area by Tom Gardiner, Danny Leesley doubled their lead from the penalty spot.

After the break Ryan Taylor netted Handsworth’s third from an acute angle and another Pratt through ball saw Ashton hit his second. Millhouses did eventually gain some reward for their efforts when Tom Crosby brought Ali Humphries down in the area and Adam Sturch netted from the spot.

At the top of the CBC Premier, Woodhouse West End look favourites to claim another CBC Premier title after winning 2-0 at Stocksbridge Park Steels, while one of their main rivals, Stannington Village, were held at home by Civil Service. A scrappy game saw Dave Kippax give West End a second half lead when he found himself unmarked at a corner and they sealed the victory when Jason Short scored from Dale Fuller’s cross.

After quickly falling behind to a Wes Bamford goal for Civil Service, Stannington dominated the first half and after Aaron Worsfold had equalised, Jack Ridge tapped home after Lee Johnstone’s shot had been saved to give them the lead and a Shane Toulson header gave them a 3-1 lead at the interval. Service made a change at half time and moved skipper Ben Brown into midfield and it proved decisive as he netted twice to give Service a point and put a real dent into Stannington’s title hopes.

In Division One, leaders Pitsmoor Royal Oak are just one win away from guaranteeing a return to the top flight after hammering Anvil 11-1 Gavin Davis netted four of them and Luke Parwana three, while Oak’s others came from Craig Graham, Leon Stocks, Scott Spzajer and the fit again Elijah Lewis. Anvil never gave up though and Dean Jepson scored a consolation for them.

One win might also be enough for Woodhouse Angel after they overcame a Brinsworth Whitehill fighting for survival. Adam Dickinson set Lee Marshall up to give Angel the lead, but with Bazil Nyoni outstanding for Brinsworth, they levelled before half time through Jamie Radford. After the break Wes Pierce restored Angel’s lead and Dickinson increased it further, but Radford netted his second to bring Brinsworth back into the game and they squandered a good chance to level before Dickinson grabbed his second to seal it for Angel.

Four days earlier, Brinsworth had given themselves a chance of avoiding the drop with victory at fellow strugglers Bulls Head. Radford gave them a first half lead and Shaun Turner and Gavin Jones strikes in the second half made the three points safe before Mark Bryant netted Bulls consolation in the last minute.

Three days later though, Bulls Head revived their chances with victory in a massive six-pointer against bottom club Niagara. After a goalless first half, Bryant broke the deadlock and although Niagara did their best to get back into it, Greg Broomhead slid home a Jordan Barton cross in the final minute to make the win safe.

Anston Athletic boosted their chances of avoiding the drop with a 2-1 win at a Ranch side that started the day in third place. Anston took the lead when Steve Batty could only head a corner out to James Lawton and his shot flew into the top corner with the help of a deflection off Ian Cooper, but Batty made up for it when just two minutes later he headed Ben Hartley’s free kick on for Oliver Whittaker to equalise. Anston hit what turned out to be the winner before the interval when Simon Turner beat the full back before playing the ball to Simon Herberts, who turned before scoring.

That defeat saw Ranch slip out of the top three as Loxley took their place with a 4-1 win at fellow promotion hopefuls Heeley Crown. John Bailey netted at the back post to give Loxley the lead and although Mick Eason levelled for Heeley, Bailey finished off the best move of the game to put Loxley back in front. The second half saw Heeley begin to wilt and Tom Shelton extended Loxley’s lead before man of the match Danny Bray completed the scoring at the near post.

Division Two leaders Southey Social celebrated landing the latest CBC Computer Systems Merit Award by becoming the first side to gain promotion this season with two wins in four days over two of the other promotion contenders, Fairbank-Rhodes and Junior Blades. Southey found themselves behind at Fairbank-Rhodes when Jim Tomlinson’s corner flew straight into the net, but Southey went into the break level after Mark Hanwell had equalised. After the second half started with John Mellor putting Southey in front, their was no stopping them and Rob Womack, Gavin Pitts and a Danny Lindley doubled took their goal tally for the season to the century mark.

Four days later two thirty five yard stunners from Danny Lindley and Rob Womack gave Southey a half time lead against Junior Blades, but the Blades hit back in the second half and pulled one back when Danny Law met a left wing cross at the near post. The Blades defended well after that, but they still needed keeper Dave Marrison to be at his best, but even he couldn’t stop John Mellor hitting Southey’s third from penalty spot to confirm their promotion.

Fairbank-Rhodes chances of joining them took a further blow when they lost at home to Red Lion. It started well for Fairbank when Adam Bishop headed home a corner to give them the lead, but soon after the break Lion levelled when Lewis Barker’s shot took a deflection past the keeper. Ben Birks then put Lion in front and although Bishop almost grabbed an equaliser when he hit the bar, Lion held on.

The Park’s chances of joining the promotion race also suffered two defeats in four days. Aaron Walker twice put them ahead against fellow promotion hopefuls Crookes & District, but John Garnett, called out of retirement, levelled the first and Karl Fox the second. Fox then went on to complete his hat-trick and although Greg Ramsden pulled one back for The Park, Crookes held on.

The Park’s second defeat was more of a surprise against a Highfield Old Crown that had lost its last nine. Craig Smith hit a real thunderbolt with his left foot to give Highfield a half time lead and even though Ben Lee levelled soon after the break it was Highfield that went back in front when Robert Ploughman scramble the ball home. The Park looked to have rescued a point when a penalty allowed Lee to score his ninth goal in his last seven games, but with virtually the last action of the game a long throw saw Gavin Howard grab a winner for Highfield.

Aston Mayerton made no mistake though and moved into the third automatic promotion place with a 3-1 win at Oughtibridge Village. Aston took the lead when Scott McKenna fired home from the edge of the area after a Ryan Hall cross was only partially cleared and although Danny Hill levelled for Oughtibridge, a Josh Bell penalty had Aston back in front before the break and a David Sills strike made it safe in the second half.

Crookes & District’s chances were hit though when they suffered a shock heavy defeat to a Birley Moor News side striving to get out of the bottom three. Although Karl Fox celebrated his Angel IT Solution Peak Performer Award by netting his second hat-trick in four days, Crookes were always chasing the game after Birley had taken a 4-1 lead at half time. Brett Turton hit three for Birley, Jason Naylor two and one each came from John Marshall, Reece Betts and Chung Hoshing. That was Birley second win in four days after they had won 4-2 at Old Harrow. Betts, Naylor and Turton were all on target again along with Daniel Cowley, while Matt Simmerson and Joe Bilby netted for Old Harrow.

Old Harrow were beaten again four days later when Rivelin hammered them 5-0. Matt Law, Jamie Cherry, Danny Stead and two for Josh Bermingham gave Rivelin victory, but their promotion hopes remain slim after they had let a two goal lead slip before losing to Oughtibridge Village a few days earlier.  Josh Bermingham and Craig Gambling had given Rivelin a half time lead, but Oughtibridge were unstoppable in the second half and won it with one each from Mick Rollett and David Buckley and two from Danny Hill.
