Elementary for Holmes as Villa stun Village people again

While CPC Premier leaders Woodhouse George had to be patient before eventually overcoming bottom side Royal Oak Pitsmoor, Stannington Village lost further ground to them when an Ian Holmes treble helped Hemsworth Villa to a second victory over them in a few weeks.

In Division One Burgoyne Arms lost their unbeaten record and the leadership with a surprise home defeat by Civil Service, while the clash of Division Two's top two saw four goal Jason Eaves help Ecclesfield Travellers overcome Cutlers Arms to take the top spot off them.

Cutlers took an early lead through Mark Franklin and although Eaves soon levelled, Cutlers went back in front with a Daniel Skinner strike, but again they couldn't hold on to it and Eaves levelled again before half time.

The second half wasn't as even and once Eaves completed his hat-trick to put Ecclesfield in front for the first time they never looked like reinquishing it and Eaves hit a fourth to make their victory safe.

That defeat saw Cutlers slip to third as Hartley House also climbed above them as first half goals from Craig Senior, Jamie Grayson and Matthew Hewitt gave them a convincing 3-0 victory at Ball Boys.

Pitsmoor Hotel's challenge looked as if it would faulter when Dave Buchan gave Capita Hartshead the lead and Pitsmoor missed a penalty. Even after Glynn Walker had levelled and Scott Spiers had given Pitsmoor the lead, Capita looked as if they would go home with something when Paul Gregory pulled them level, but a second penalty award was this time put away by Stevie Little to give Pitsmoor all three points.

A Brett Muff double and one from Mark Ramsden was enough to give Half Moon all three points against Wadsley Bridge Travellers, who's sole reply came from John Williams.

Although an own goal gave Woodseats Abbey an early lead at home to Lynthorpe Oak, it looked as if Oak would go home with a share of the points after Steve Fairbank a real cracker from thirty yards, but Abbey eventually took all three points when Jason Ball steered home a winner.

Tom Moyses hit a sweet left foot drive from outside the area to give Hollin Bush the lead at Loxley, but they couldn't hold on to it and two Scott Parkin strikes saw Loxley maintain their 100 per cent home record.

Division One leaders at the start of the day Burgoyne Arms had won all eight of their games prior to last weekend and their visitors Civil Service had been on the slide after a bright start to the season, so it came as a surprise when Mark Simms gave the Servants the lead.

Marcus Stewart briefly levelled for Burgoyne, but Service's more direct style looked more siuted to the difficult conditions and Simms' second put them back in front before a terrific Russell White header clinched a shock victory for them.

That gave Laycock Sports the chance to take over at the top, but they must have thought it wouldn't happen when they were without all three of their strikers for their game with Lord Nelson.

It looked even bleaker when Nelson took a fifth minute lead as Matt Bray took advantage of a defensive mix-up, but things began to look brighter when stand-in striker Andy Register levelled from the penalty spot. Steve Morris then chipped the keeper for what turned out to be their winner, but it needed keeper Grant Parkin to be at the top of his form to maintain it.

Bagshaw Arms gifted local rivals Jordanthorpe Hotel the lead with an own goal, but it was to be only a minor blip as Alex Yule lobbed the keeper to level before James Sullivan put them in front.

Just before half time Jordanthorpe returned the compliment by also putting through their own goal and Oliver Wilson wrapped up a 4-1 victory for Bagshaw with his second half strike.

Th day's other big local derby saw Pen Nook put on their best display of the season to brush Stocksbridge Park Steels 'B' aside 4-0. Ryan Cockayne volleyed Nook ahead in the first half and although Steels keeper Paul Clarke did his best to keep his side in the game, he could do nothing to stop John Ward hitting a second soon after the interval. Cockayne then added his second and Ben Bissett completed the scoring with an unstoppable header.

Another terrific goalkeeping display also went without reward as Oxspring United failed to gain a third win in succession at Niagara. Lee Thickett was the unlucky keeper this time as Andy Lee and Lee Beighton goals gave Niagara the points as Oxspring could only pull one back through Dan Donovan.

It was a big surprise to see Telecom Sports struggling at the foot of the table without a point, but all that changed as Simon Smith netted five in an 8-3 victory at a shell shocked Oughtibridge Village.

Danny Hill, Dave Hudson and Lee Smith goals gave Village hope that they could get something out of the game, but keeper Jason Baker will have had better days along with Smith's five he also had to pick out two from Paul Marrison and another from his brother Luke on his debut for the club.

A real battling display by bottom club Royal Oak Pitsmoor saw them hold their own for an hour at Woodhouse George, but once Michael Towey's terrific twenty five yard strike had put the CBC Premier leaders ahead their was only going to be one winner. Shaun Waller quickly headed a second for George and Chris Towey rounded things off with their third.

They are now eight points clear of the chasing pack after Hemsworth Villa inflicted a second successive home defeat on Stannington Village. Villa had won there in the County Cup just a few weeks earlier so it was no surprise when Lee Webber gave them an early lead.

Steve Taylor levelled for the home side and even though Ian Holmes headed Villa back in front before the interval, second half pressure brought another equaliser for Stannington from Shane Toulson.

Villa keeper Jamie King was working overtime to keep his side in the game, but it looked as if efforts would be in vain when Simon Howe beat two defenders to give Village a deserved lead. Village piled on the pressure to try to put the game beyond Villa, but the visitors weathered the storm and two late strikes by Holmes again saw them go home victorious.

Stocksbridge Park Steels 'A' and their hosts Crookes Club were both looking for their first points of the season and it looked as if they would go Crookes' way when Paul Emtikat and a Paul Jennings penalty twice put them ahead, but Steels had other ideas and doubles from Mark Garrett and Steve Bethel along with others from Matt Sewell, Andy Hibbert and Adam Todd saw them run out easy 7-2 winners.

The Park looked likely to also go home from Redmires with all three after James Hird had given them a first half lead, but in the end they had to settle for a share of the spoils when Luke Siggs cross was deflected into his own net by a Park defender.

Villa pipped by Bradway, but rest go through in Senior Cup, while 7 survive in Junior Cup

In the County FA Cup competitions last weekend only two of our sides fell to non-Blades Super Draw opponents and even those two can count themselves very unlucky to go out. Leading the successes in the Senior Cup was CBC Premier leaders Woodhouse George, who predictably thrashed Hallamshire Nomads side Shakespeare, while former winners Laycock Sports were the biggest winners in the Junior Cup.

Perhaps the best win of the day in the Senior Cup though was Crookes Club's raid on HSBC. A goal behind at the interval, Crookes stepped up a gear and grabbed a deserved equaliser thorugh Andy Billingsly's 30 yard free kick, before winning it with Paul Jennings's looping header.

Woodhouse West End also found themselves a goal behind when they entertained Hemsworth United, but home pressure brought a Dave Kippax leveller and Wayne Fuller drilled home what turned out to be the winner, although West End's victory margin would have been greater had Alan Hull not had a second half penalty saved.

Dronfield Town also went behind early in the second half when they made the long journey to Upton Wrangbrook, but they also hit back through Rob Ireland and then, with extra time looming, Ian Parkes grabbed the winner just five minutes from time.

It wasn't to be for Shakespeare as Woodhouse George again turned on the power to have a very comfortable passage into the last 32. George built their victory patiently and although leading just 2-1 at the interval, any nerves they had were much ado about nothing as they romped to a further six goals in the second half. Shaun Waller led the way with three and Michael Blythen two, with Carl Colley, Wes Pierce and an own goal completing the rout.

Our only loser in the Senior Cup was the very unlucky Hemsworth Villa who lost by the odd goal in seven to former cup winners Bradway. First blood went to Villa when Lee Webber netted and only the woodwork stopped them extending their lead before their hosts grabbed an equaliser. Bradway then took the lead for the first time, but Ian Holmes deservedly had them level before the break.

In the second half a couple of errors by Villa's normally reliable keeper Jamie King were severly punished by Bradway and Villa's cause wasn't helped when their influential midfielder Scott Moat had to give way to injury, but they showed great determination to reduce the arrears with a typical Jamie Sampson strike.

After that they pounded the Bradway defence and had it not been for the woodwork on a number of occasions and a brilliant save by the home keeper from sub Chris Senior's effort, Villa would have forced at least extra time, if not taken the win their performance richly  deserved, but it wasn't to be and Bradway scraped through.

The Junior Cup looks as if it could be coming Laycock Sports way once again after they easily disposed of Kilnhurst side Ring O'Bells 7-1. It didn't look as if it would be that comfortable at half time though as only Steve Morris's chip over the keeper seperated the sides, but the second half turned into one way traffic.

The visitors fought gamely to stem the flow, but once Gary McWilliams extended Laycock's lead the flood gates opened. McWilliams headed a brilliant third and Sam Sequerra netted his obligatory goal. Sub Shane Spence grabbed a brace and Lloyd McPherson rounded things off with a terrific individual effort.

Ball Boys are one of two of our Division Two sides to make it to the last 32, as they scored a very impressive 5-1 victory at Richmond Tavern. A double from Craig Smith and one from Shirtliffe had them three up by the interval and McGuiness and Cryer strikes in the second half confirmed their place in the fourth round.

Pitsmoor Hotel were the other Division Two side to progress with a very polished performance. Visitors Tomahawk gave a brave display, but had it not been for their keeper Pitsmoor would have added many more to the three that Scott Spiers and Gavin Davies netted between them.

Division One pacesetters Burgoyne Arms showed their class as a Jon Dixon treble and a Ben Shaw penalty gave them a comfortable 4-0 win at Royal Oak Wombwell and, despite being held at half time, The Park, with goals from Matt Hill, Adam Parker, Ed Colton, Lee Bridges and Mcenzie strikes had an equally easy victory at home to Todwick Villa.

The two all-Blades Super Draw ties saw narrow wins for the visitors, with Royal Oak Pitsmorr winning 4-3 at Ecclesfield Travellers and Stocksbridge Park Steels 'B' winning 2-1 at Woodseats Abbey.

John Clarke's free kick and a John Mellor strike saw Oak race into a two goal lead and with Travellers losing a player after a deliberate handball it looked as if it would be plain sailing, but Travellers shocked their visitors and led after Jason Eaves, Shane Wills and Scott Towey goals. Oak's numerical advantage finally began to take its toll though and after Mellor scored his second to level, Jeff Ward crossed for Andy Jones to slam home the winner.

Mark Richards' goal gave Division Two side Woodseats Abbey a half time lead, but in the second half Division One Steels began to take control and after Phil Cookson had levelled, Luke Burkinshaw hit their winner fifteen minutes from time. Steels' Division One counterparts Bagshaw Arms couldn't match them and their badly understrength side were the shock losers, going down to a single goal at home to Cora.

In the league, the day's only CBC Premier game saw Handsworth WMC grab their second home win of the season, 2-1 over visitors Redmires. Scott Abramski headed home a corner to give Handsworth an eighth minute lead and it lasted until five minutes after the interval when recent signing John Cotterill headed his first goal for Redmires. With fifteen minutes remaining, Redmires also netted the final goal, but unfortunately for them it was into their own net.

In Division One, Oxspring United were the surprise winners as they added to Jordanthorpe Hotel's troubled start to the season. Two Alan Crofts strikes proved just enough to beat one from David Goudge, but it also needed a vital last ditch clearance by veteran Steve Wood to keep Oxsping in front.

Oughtibridge Village found themselves behind at Civil Service when Alan Pickering fired home a penalty, but Village hit back through David Hudson and Keith Hague to claim their first away win of the season.

Niagara's away form though looks to have deserted them and after Mark Woodcock gave hosts Pen Nook the lead on the stroke of half time, only one winner looked likely and Woodcock completed his hat-trick to confirm Nook's superiority.

Two goals for Half Moon's Nathan Kingswood weren't enough to stop Cutlers Arms taking over at the top of Division Two. Cutlers had too much firepower for their visitors and won it with a Daniel Skinner treble and one from Steve Cousins.

Although it didn't start well, it turned out to be a good day for a Capita Hartshead that started the day at the foot of Division Two. Richard Tidy, Steve Fairbank and Craig Guilfoyle goals saw Lythorpe Oak race into a three goal lead, but Tom Franklin started Capita's revival, John Rhodes continued it and a second from Franklin deservedly brought them level.

Although it could have gone either way after that, the turnaround was completed when Dave Brooksbank slammed in Capita's fourth to earn them their first win and points of the season.

It was almost a similar story at Wadsley Bridge Travellers where Hartley House raced into a three goal lead courtesy of Craig Senior and Mick Smith strikes. John Williams pulled one back for the home side, but their prospects again looked bleak when Senior added to his tally. Dave Gleeson again gave Bridge hope before half time and a penalty soon after the break reduced their arrers still further.

Senior's forth for House again looked to have secured the points for them, but Richard Bates pulled another back for the home side before a last gasp Steve Morris strike gave them a share of the spoils.

Tosalisana's woes continued as Loxley slammed fourteen past them without reply. Craig Whalley, Scott Parkin and Geoff Mayfield all grabbed doubles and man-of-the-match Neil Coyle was also among the ten different goalscorers.

Town dent Village people's title hopes

CBC Premier

It was a massive day for two of the CBC Premier division title contenders as Dronfield Town travelled to Stannington Village. And it was Town who upset the odds to keep in touch with leaders Woodhouse George.

First half goals from Adam Fordham and Brett Gibbons (2) left Stannington with a mountain to climb in the second half.

The hosts had a great chance to reduce the arrears from the penalty spot but this was squandered.

Simon Howell did manage to pull a goal back but it was too little to late as Dronfield held out to record a well deserved and famous 3-1 victory.

Table toppers Woodhouse George look unstoppable at the moment and they displayed their usual free scoring form to inflict a 7-0 hammering on Crookes Club.

In form striker Wes Pierce could only manage two goals this week! Indeed he was matched in the scoring stakes by Shaun Waller, who also bagged a brace, and bettered by Michael Blythen who hit three.

It will take a monumental effort from the chasing pack to overhaul George's six point advantage even at the early stage of the season.

Hemsworth Villa are a team that are well equipped to keep pace with the leaders though and they continued their recent impressive form to keep their title hopes alive with a 2-0 win at Royal Oak Pitsmoor.

Mark Hopkinson gave them a twentieth minute lead when his cross come shot found its way into the back of the net.

The visitors didn't have it all their own way though as Pitsmoor, buoyed by their Cup heroics last week, dominated for long spells during the first half but they couldn't break through Villa's stubborn rearguard.

Ian Holmes made the points safe for the visitors in the second half when he skipped past two defenders before slotting home Villa's second.

Redmires travelled to Stocksbridge Park Steels (A) on the back of two heavy defeats. But it was the hosts who remained pointless and second bottom as Redmires got back to winning ways in emphatic fashion with a 4-0 victory.

Andy Birks opened the scoring with a sweet volley before Des Pike doubled the visitors lead with a cracking strike. Dale White came of the bench to score his first goal for the club before Birks completed the scoring with his second.

Redmires dominated from start to finish and would have scored more if they had capitalised on their many chances.

Handsworth Working Men's Club showed the fighting spirit they will need to stay in the top flight when they came from 3-0 down at half time to grab a share of the spoils with a 4-4 draw against The Park.

Goals from Matthew Hill, Adam Parker and Edwin Colton looked to have won the points for the visitors before Scott Abramski and a Carl Eaton double levelled things up. Lee Bridges for the Park and Dean Brown for Handsworth traded strikes to earn both sides a point in an entertaining encounter.

Division One

The game of the day in Division One saw the top two put their 100% records on the line as Burgoyne Arms hosted Bagshaw Arms.

Bagshaw looked on course to come away with the points and retain top spot as they raced into a 2-0 lead at half time with Sullivan bagging both.

However this was the proverbial game of two halves as Jimmy Dixon and Gary Cooper put the host's level.

It was always going to take something special to win a game as keenly contested as this and Richard Booth duly obliged when he smashed home the winner from thirty yards to give Burgoyne all three points and send them back to the top.

Laycock Sports moved ominously into second spot as they dispatched Stocksbridge Park Steels (B) by 8-1.

Sports raced into a 3-0 half time lead and continued in the same vein in the second half with the only blip on their performance coming by way of a Luke Birkinshaw consolation for the hosts. For once Sam Sequerra was outscored by a team mate as Gary McWilliams grabbed three. Sequerra did bag a couple of goals though and further goals from Gary Luke, Gary Ellis and Andrew Register completed the rout for a Laycocks side that are on a real roll.

Pen Nook travelled to Jordanthorpe Hotel and came away with the points after winning by the odd goal in five.

Mark Dobbs gave the visitors a 1-0 half time lead but Jordanthorpe hit back to lead 2-1 when David Gouge added another goal to his tally to equalise and Lee Barringham put them in front.

Jordanthorpe's joy was short lived however. Craig Thickett equalised before Stephen Marshall hit the winner as Pen Nook claimed all three points in a topsy-turvy encounter.

Oughtibridge Village had Dave Hudrosn to thank as they went into the break 1-0 up against Lord Nelson.

Nelson needed to show some character after last weeks shock Cup exit and they recovered from the half time deficit to claim a share of the points as Dave Thompson fired home the leveller.

Oxspring United put a dent in Civil Services promotion hopes as they claimed their first win of the season with a fine display.

Goals from Dan Donovan and Mick Furniss cemented the win while Brett Cockayne grabbed Civil's consolation.

Andrew Lee opened the scoring for Niagara but it was Carl Boldock who was the hero, he capped a man of the match display with two goals as Niagara came away from Telecom with all three points.

Paul Marrison scored for the hosts but it was no more than a consolation as Boldock had the final say and left the hosts pointless at the bottom of the table.

Division Two

Ecclesfield Travellers took top spot in the division with an emphatic 10-2 victory over second bottom side Tosalisana.

Scott Johnson was the hero as he bagged four goals. Paul Bashforth hit two and further strikes from Wilkinson, Wraith, France and Hoyland completed the rout.

Tosalisana hit back with goals from Idrissa Diallo and Sacko Mory-Jean but they were no match for a rampant Ecclesfield side.

Cutlers Arms remain in second position despite going down 2-0 to Half Moon.

Maison Kingswood and Chris Critchlow were the heroes as Moon moved clear of the bottom three.

Hollin Bush moved into the top four as they overcame Woodseats Abbey in an entertaining encounter.

Paul Hanstock and Daniel Goodwin grabbed the goals the hosts and despite another goal from Abbey's Adrian Vonwurzbach they held on to claim all three points.

Loxley claimed their first points of the campaign as they hammered bottom side Capita Hartshead 5-0.

Chris Whalley, Nick Smith and Neil Coyne all scored a goal apiece but the real hero was man of the match Craig Crownshaw who grabbed two as Loxley moved out of the bottom three.

Hartley House moved up to third in the division with a comprehensive 6-2 victory over Lynthorpe Oak who dropped into the bottom three.

Craig Senior and Jamie Grayson grabbed a goal each and Martin Claridge and James Todd hit two apiece for House with Lynthorpe's Fairbank scoring both their goals.

Ball Boys and Wadsley Bridge Travellers shared ten goals in this exciting encounter.

Travellers had much the better of the first half and should have been in front at the break. However they didn't make the most of their chances and the sides went in 2-2 at half time. McGuiness and Pryor scored for Ball Boys with Ian Sharland and Liam Farey replying for the visitors.

The second half was a different story though as Ball Boys took control and rattled in five goals through McGuiness, who hit two to complete his hatrick, Blakeny, Hull and Smith. Mick Gleeson's strike being Travellers only reply

The excitement of the Sheffield & Hallamshire Cup competitions awaited most of our sides last Sunday.

Senior Cup

Seven of our sides were representing the League in the Senior Cup and the tie of the round was the all CBC Premier clash between Stannington Village and Hemsworth Villa.

Hemsworth totally dominated the game in the first half but it was Stannington who broke the deadlock after half an hour, and against the run of play, when Michael Barnes fired home.

Desperate defending and some sublime goalkeeping by Stannington’s Ben Ashton kept Hemsworth at bay during the rest of the half.

Stannington struck the bar in a more evenly contested second half but Ashton was finally beaten when Ian Holmes beat the offside trap before rounding him to make it 1-1.

In the first minute of extra time Holmes was fouled but his spot kick was superbly saved by the impressive Ashton.

The game seemed to be heading for a penalty shoot out when Holmes again broke clear and this time he got the better of Ashton and fired home a deserved winner to send Hemsworth through to the next round.

There were big wins for CBC title chasers Woodhouse George and Dronfield Town as both hit the back of the net eight times on the way to victory.

Woodhouse were slow starters against Birley Moor News as they made hard work of it during an uninspiring first half. Despite this they led 2-0 at the break.

The second half was a different story though as George finally got into gear and they added a further six goals without reply to ease into the next round. George’s scorers were Wes Pierce 3 (1 pen), Paul Robertson 2, Spencer Starks, Michael Blythen and Michael Brown (pen).

Dronfield Town recovered from last weeks mauling at the hands of Woodhouse George to reach the next round at the expense of Markham.

Town started poorly though and soon found themselves two down. Two goals just before half time from Andy Fordham and a Pete Myers penalty turned the tide in their favour though and further goals from Fordham and Myers, again from the spot, and strikes from Brett Gibbons, Nick Horsfield, Craig Forster and Ian Parkes completed the rout.

Handsworth WMC faced a difficult task against near neighbours Mosborough who ply their trade in the Meadowhall Premier. And proved no match as Mosborough ran out comfortable 4-0 victors.

In an all CBC Premier Division clash Crookes Club ran out worthy winners as they hammered Redmires 5-1.

Redmires Mark Hardisty and Crookes Andy Billingsley traded first half strikes but it was a different story in the second half.

Crookes dominated after the break against a lacklustre Redmires side and goals from Simon Bellamy, Damien Atherton, Scott Bennett and an own goal sent them through to the next round.

 Junior Cup

Fourteen of our teams competed in the Junior Cup and nine of those went through to the next round with varying degrees of ease.

Royal Oak Pitsmoor have struggled with their league form so far this season but the cup brought out the best in them and Referee Mark Lane, who had a faultless game, as they showed great fighting spirit to triumph 5-3 after extra time.

Craig Jones scored twice and Scott Hempsey, John Mellor and a last minute equaliser in normal time by goalkeeper Simon Morfitt, who came up for a corner to hammer home an unstoppable volley, handed Pitsmoor a well deserved victory.

Stocksbridge Park Steels (B) faced a trip to Hoyland and they came home happy after a 3-2 victory.

Hoyland went 1-0 up in the first half but Phillip Cookson equalised before the break.

In the second half the game continued to ebb and flow with both sides enjoying spells of dominance. Firstly the Steelmen took the lead for first time in the game as Ben Lewis fired home. Hoyland hit back to equalise before Luke Burkinshaw hit home what proved to be the winner with twenty minutes left. Hoyland put the Steelmen under intense pressure during the closing stages but they held out to edge a thriller.

Pitsmoor Hotel faced a trip into the unknown as they travelled to Rotherham to face Queens Rawmarsh.

Lee Percival grabbed Pitsmoor’s goal in a match that finished 1-1 after 90 minutes.

Extra time couldn’t separate the sides and the tie went to penalties. Pitsmoor held their nerve during the shoot out and triumphed 5-4.

Telecom Sports travelled to former Blades Super Draw league side Malin Rangers and found themselves on the wrong end of a 6-2 scoreline.

Strikes in either half from Simon Smith and a Dave Hornby penalty were not enough for Telecom as they bowed out of this year’s competition.

Ball Boys made sure they would be flying the league flag in the next round as they recorded an impressive 4-1 victory against High Green Rovers.

Goals from Craig Wolley, Grant Craig and Will Blakeney gave Ball Boys a comfortable 3-0 half time lead. Rovers pulled one back in the second half but a further strike by Ryan McGuiness underlined their superiority.

BSDL sides Loxley and Laycock Sports faced each other in the Cup and Laycock triumphed thanks to a familiar face.

Geoffrey Mayfield gave Loxley hope when he scored but a double from Laycock legend Sam Sequerra proved too much for Loxley as Sports triumphed 2-1.

The Park were another of our sides to progress to the next round when they beat Dronfield Woodhouse Sports & Social by 5-3.

Goals from Adam & Ryan Parker, Edwin Colton, Lee Bridges and James Hurd saw them through.

Lord Nelson looked to be heading through when they raced into a 3-0 lead with goals from Dave Thompson 2 and Matt Bray putting them in a commanding position against Manor Social.

Social showed great fighting spirit though as they hit back to level and force the game into extra time. They then grabbed the winner to complete a remarkable comeback and send a shell shocked Nelson out.

Strong Arms were too much for Blue Bell 2005 and Fulwood United as Bagshaw Arms and Burgoyne Arms stormed into the next round.

Alex Yule was yet again the hero for Bagshaw as he grabbed a hat trick. Mark Sanderson 2 and Richard Dale completed the scoring in a 6-0 win over Blue Bell.

Burgoyne Arms goal scoring heroes were Johnny Dixon 3, Darren Firth 4, and man of the match Scott Arnold 3 as they hammered Fulwood United 10-1.

Another all BSDL tie saw Woodseats Abbey host Pen Nook at Warminster Road.

Daniel McLean opened the scoring for the visitors but Abbey equalised with a penalty in the fourth minute of first half injury time when Adrian Vonwurzbach fired home.

It was a typically tight affair in the second half and a single Lewis Barker strike was enough to send Woodseats Abbey through.

Hollin Bush were another of our sides to bow out. Goals from Oliver Sayles and Kyl Kilham were not enough to save them as Shepley Spitfire just edged it 3-2.

 CBC Premier

There was just one CBC Premier Division fixture due to the Cup games and it saw Woodhouse West End edge out Stocksbridge Park Steels (A) in a five goal thriller.

Stocksbridge led 1-0 at half time through a Chris Kelly penalty but a half time roasting by the Westenders management team changed the complexion of the game.

James Walters equalised with a sweet volley before Dave Kippax looped a header back across goal from a corner to give Woodhouse the lead. Spencer Taylor broke free and kept his cool when faced with a one on one with the Steels keeper to make it 3-1.

Nick Ward set up a grandstand finish when he fired home the Steelmens second but it wasn’t enough to prevent defeat.

 Division Two

Capita Hartshead hosted Wadsley Bridge Travellers and the visitors edged it with a 4-3 victory.

The Travellers led 2-1 at half time after goals from Dave Gleeson and John Williams with Paul Gregory replying for the hosts.

Gleeson added his second and Travellers third but a Tom Franklin double levelled it up. The game seemed destined for a draw before Neil Whitworth fired home the winner with five minutes left to earn Wadsley all three points.

Cutlers Arms heaped more misery on bottom side Tosalisana with an 8-0 victory. Shaun Warhurst 4, Arron Keenan, Roger Hyde, Mick Eason and Steven Cousins grabbed the goals.

Brent Marsh reaffirmed his reputation as one of the best non league Referees with a fine display.

Goals Galore

CBC Premier

Questions have been asked about the quality and excitement in the English Premiership recently, an accusation that cannot be levelled against the Blades Super Draw League after an amazing 96 goals were scored in just 16 games this weekend!

Five of those goals came in the Premier league’s most intriguing encounter as top of the table Woodhouse George travelled to Gladys Buxton to face second placed Dronfield Town. And it was George who preserved their 100% record with a thumping 5-0 victory and a performance which Town’s Manager John Burgin described as the best his team had ever faced. Wes Pierce was again the hero for George, bagging a hatrick. It might have been a different story though had George keeper Dave Brunt not saved Adam Fordham’s penalty. Further goals by Robertson and Waller rubber stamped George’s superiority and Town’s miserable day was complete when Ben Castell was sent off for deliberate handball.

Stannington Village moved up to second place in the League with a comfortable 4-1 victory at Handsworth WMC. Steven Taylor netted three goals and Michael Barnes grabbed the other as Stannington controlled the game. Handsworth’s consolation was scored by Carl Eaton.

Former Champions Stocksbridge Park Steels (A) slumped to their third successive defeat as Hemsworth Villa came away from Braken Moor with all three points in a 3-1 victory. Lee Webber opened the scoring in the first minute when he latched onto Ian Holmes cross to fire home. Mark Barraclough equalised on twenty minutes for the hosts but it was to prove scant consolation as Holmes netted from the spot after being upended and Webber added his second and Villa’s third.

The Park hit five as Royal Oak Pitsmoor continued to find life difficult on their return to the top flight. Matthew Hill, Steve McMain, Adam Parker 2, and an own goal made it four defeats on the trot and 23 goals conceded in four games for Pitsmoor. Scott Hempsey’s consolation was all Oak had to show for their efforts.

Woodhouse West End pulled level on points with Redmires after a 3-0 victory. Redmires prolific striker Luke Siggs hit the bar in the first half but that was as good as it got for the visitors as Lee Glaves, Dave Kippax and a wonderful solo effort by Danny Hooper sealed the points for the hosts.

 Division One

Lord Nelson produced the shock of the day in Division One with a superb 4-1 away win at Civil Service. Goals from Brian Maguire 2, Matt Bray and Danny Wilkinson shattered the hosts 100% record. Simon Hall netted for Civil Service but it was not enough to prevent Nelson earning their first points of the season.

It is incredibly tight at the top of Division One as three teams boast a 100% record. In fact Burgoyne Arms, who led the table at the start of the day, slipped to second spot despite recording a 3-1 victory at Pen Nook. A missed penalty from Darren Firth cost Burgoyne dear as they lost top spot on goals scored. Strikes from Ben Shaw, Matthew Roberts and an own goal gave Burgoyne the points and Nook’s reply came from Lee Revitt.

Bagshaw Arms replaced them at the top thanks to a 9-1 victory at Oxspring. Goals from Alex Yule 3, James Sullivan 2, Richard Dale, Oliver Wilson, Jono Bell and Mark Sanderson did the damage with Tom Hible replying for Oxspring.

Sam Sequerra scored again as Laycock Sports beat Niagara 5-1 to preserve their 100% and consolidate third spot. Further goals from Mossie, Turner, Luke and Spence, and a consolation from Stagg completed the scoring at Warminster Road.

It is very early in the season to talk about relegation six pointers but with both teams pointless as Telecom Sports played host to Jordanthorpe Hotel there was a lot riding on this one. Goals from Dean Grayson and Paul Marrison were not enough for Telecom as Hotel heaped more misery on Sports with two goals from man of the match David Goudge and strikes by Daniel Waterfall and Lee Sargent helping to move them away from the bottom three.

 Division Two

Bottom side Capita Hartshead were the hosts as second placed Ecclesfield Travellers visited Westfield School in the day’s highest scoring game. Capita had only managed four goals so far this season but they made a mockery of that statistic by hitting five. Paul Gregory bagged one but it was Tom Franklin who really found his form, hitting four goals. Amazingly he still ended up on the losing side as Travellers hit Capita for nine. Jason Reeves went one better than Franklin, hitting the net five times with a man of the match display on his return from injury. Further goals by Hoyland, Grayson 2, and Archer sent the Travellers to the top of the table.

Cutlers Arms slipped from top spot when they lost at home by the odd goal in three against Hartley House. Anthony Sydney struck for the hosts but goals from Jamie Grayson and Mick Smith made it two wins out of two for the visitors.

Hollin Bush ran out comfortable winners with a comprehensive 4-0 victory over Half Moon. Lee Sweet scored three times and Martin Edwards grabbed the other as both sides played their part in a game that proved to be an excellent advertisement for the League.

Lynthorpe Oak bagged their first point of the season when they drew 2-2 with visitors Wadsley Bridge Travellers. Fairbank and Foggerty both netted for the home side with Dave Gleeson and Paul Smith replying for Wadsley. The visitors dominated for long spells although both sides missed chance after chance in a very open game.

Third placed Pitsmoor Hotel kept the pressure on the top two when they recorded a 3-2 home win over Loxley. They didn’t have it all their own way though as goals from Craig Crownshaw and Carl Wells gave the visitors a 2-0 half time lead. The half time break didn’t do Pitsmoor any harm though as they came out for the second half and dominated the game. Scott Spiers was the hero with his second half hatrick allowing Pitsmoor to nick the points.

Finally Woodseats Abbey were the day’s biggest winners as they trounced Tosalisana 12-0. Livewire centre forward Jason Ball helped himself to four goals and further strikes by Mark Richards 3, Lewis Barker, Sal Fawsi, Adrian Vonwurzbach, and Sean Hibberd completed the rout.
