19-DEC - Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year to everyone - The League would like to wish all players, officials, referees, sponsors and supporters the very best for Christmas and a hope we can have a Happier and more Prosperous New Year.

19 DEC – CBC PREMIER – Oughtibridge and Joker frozen out – A frozen pitch put paid the last remaining CBC Premier game, Oughtibridge WM v Joker Wickersley Youth, this weekend.

19 DEC – DIVISION 2 –Whitehill go off the rails, but Reds savaged by a Legion on the march – Red Lion extended their lead at the top of Division Two by coming from two down to end the division’s last unbeaten record with a 3-2 victory over Brinsworth Whitehill. The day didn’t start well for Brinsworth when one car load of players finished up on the tram tracks near Birley (see picture right). Dan Beech Sam Midge Jamie Jones with the winner  After a disastrous morning losing both starting centre backs stranded due to a player driving on the tram tracks and getting stuck, Brinsworth started the game well and took the lead through Ainsley Finney. Brinsworth should have doubled their lead when Brad Carroll found himself clear but a good save by the Lion keeper kept it 1-0. Brinsworth did double their lead though when Ross Johnson crossed for Cory Goodwin to head home. Brinsworth was well in control and should have been more up, but Ainsley Finney and Brad Carroll both missed clear chances.

Red Lion got into the game towards the end of the first half and Brinsworth keeper Ben Priestley made some good saves to keep them out, but Red Lion continued on top after the break and deservedly pulled one back through Dan Beech. Brinsworth almost restored their two goal advantage when Drew Houghton went one on one with the Lion keeper, but his shot hit the post. Red Lion were now on top again though and equalised with a Sam Midgley strike and two minutes later Jamie Jones struck the winner to end Brinsworth’s record.

Mitch Savage (pictured left) scored twice as second place Mosborough Reds fell to a 5-2 defeat at a Chapeltown Royal British Legion, who climbed to third with three games in hand on the top two. A quick turn and shot by Matt Ellis gave Mosborough the early lead, but it also seemed to spark Legion into life. Niall Smith was hacked down in the area and Morgan Cowell rammed home the penalty for his fifth goal of the season. Josh Savage then sent Mitch Savage clear and he showed great composure to take it round the keeper and slide Legion in front. Mitch Savage then doubled his tally just before half time when Smith found him in space 30 yards out and Savage hit an unstoppable shot into the top corner.

Skipper Jak Hotchin put Mosborough back in the game when he met a free kick with a superb header at the back post and began pressing for an equaliser. Legion responded with a tripe substitution, and two of them combined as Joe Long played it to Adam Todd to turn his man and fire home left footed. Joe Moorhouse then caused confusion in the Mosborough back line with the ball falling to Ben Stringer to hammer the final blow on the volley.

12 DEC – SUNDAY SENIOR CUP – Oughtibridge make it a Ridge too far for Pewter Pot – Oughtibridge WM are our first team through to the last 8 of the County FA Sunday Senior Cup as a Jack Ridge (pictured right) first half hat-trick was the cornerstone of their 6-3 victory at Rotherham Premier side The Pewter Pot. The home side took an early lead following a long throw, but Ridge quickly equalised with a shot from inside the box. After linking up with Matt Harrison, Ridge then put Oughtibridge in front with a rocket from outside the box, before grabbing his third. Pewter Pot pulled one back from the penalty spot just before half-time, but soon after the break Simon Duckworth leapt highest to put Oughtibridge back in charge. Callum Simms then paved the way for Jordan Holland to score from close range and Harrison made the victory safe with Oughtibridge’s sixth, making Pewter Pot’s third just a consolation

A Matt Morton hat-trick wasn’t enough to stop Royal Earl going out 4-3 at Mexborough Premier’s Queens United. Earl gave a great account of themselves, but admitted that their hosts were deserved winners. Handsworth Everest Inn also went out after failing to raise a team to play at Doncaster Premier leaders Scawthorpe Athletic. Wadsley Bridge Pheasant’s game at Athersley Recreation and Stannington Village’s home game against AFP were both postponed due to waterlogged pitches.

12 DEC – SUNDAY JUNIOR CUP – Hawkes’ eye for goal sees Phoenix through with four others – Jack Hawkes (pictured left) hit a hat-trick as Brinsworth Phoenix won 4-2 at Swinton WMC to go through to the last 16 of the Sunday Junior Cup. Stand-in keeper John Mellor had to make a good early save before Jake Slaughter set Hawkes up for his first. Swinton levelled before half-time and took the lead soon after the break, but when Hawkes latched onto Mellor’s clearance, the Swinton keeper brought him down and Hawkes picked himself up to score from the spot. Sam Firth marked his comeback from injury with a header from Slaughter’s cross to put Phoenix back in front and Hawkes completed his hat-trick when he out-muscled the keeper before lobbing the ball into the net.

They are joined by four other Blades Super Draw teams. Harvey Nolan netted twice and Ed Brown, Sam Bates and Jack Hollis-Smith one each in Sheffield South’s 5-2 victory at Barnsley’s West Bretton and Chris Salt (pictured right) and Michael Blythen strikes gave Cotts a 2-1 victory at Doncaster’s Balby. Ainsley Finney netted twice as Brinsworth Whitehill beat Rotherham’s Ravenfield Cavaliers 5-3. Brinsworth started brightly and took the lead when Joe McGuiness set up Matt Claxton to smash the ball home and Ross Johnson should have doubled it soon after, but he did double the lead before half-time with a penalty after Ainsley Finney had been brought down. Ravenfield hit back after the break to level the scores, but two Finney strikes put Brinsworth back in control. Ravenfield reduced their arrears, but Lewis Szanto made the game safe with a goal in added time.

Two second half Chris Belshaw (pictured left) strikes, the second a terrific solo effort, gave Colley a 2-1 victory at the Imperial’s Aston Lodge. Aston pulled one back late on, but Colley held firm. They will be joined by at least one other Blades Super Draw team from the postponed Renegade v FC Inter game and they could also be joined by Sheffield Six’s after their game at Doncaster Premier’s AFC Royal was also postponed.

12 DEC – CBC PREMIER – Sportsman held up by Pitt stop – Norton Sportsman lost ground in the title race when Tim Pitt’s goal put AFC Dronfield on their way to victory over them. Ed Willis doubled the lead and although Ant Holmes pulled one back for Sportsman, a Joe Taylor penalty just before half-time restored Dronfield’s two goal lead. After the break some Sportsman pressure led to Brad Bowland again reducing the arrears, but Dronfield deservedly held on to inflict only Sportsman’s second defeat.

Joker Wickersley Youth increased their lead at the top as Ben Thornton (pictured first right) with three and Alex Hardwick (pictured far right) with four helped them to a 13-0 victory over bottom club Norton Oaks. Thornton crossed for Joe Austin to give Joker a second minute lead and after linking up with Parirs Dixon, Alex Elwell doubled the lead. Nathan Taylor created the opening for Thornton to score his first and he soon added his second from the edge of the area. Dixon made it five before Thornton turned in a Sam Forster cross to complete his hat-trick. Hardwick replaced Thornton at the break and quickly got his first from a Josh Kirkland cross and Kirkland was again the provider for Austin to score. Hardwick’s second and third came either side of a Brad Morton goal and Morton grabbed his second before Hardwick completed the scoring with his fourth. Referee Andy Hogg praised both sides for their efforts in the game and both sides praised him for his handling of it.

12 DEC – DIVISION 1 – All games postponed – The two Division One games were both postponed due to waterlogged pitches.

12 DEC – DIVISION 2 –Lion roar to the top, but it’s a different Storey for Jubilee – Red Lion went top of Division Two with a 4-0 victory at previous leaders Mosborough Reds. Dan Beech, Sam Roden, Sam Midgeley and Dan Nelson scored the goals to take Lion to the top by virtue of a better goal difference over Reds.

Jubilee Rangers missed out on third place when a Kier Storey goal earned Beighton Magpies a 1-1 draw with them. A Josh Jackson penalty gave Jubilee a first half lead and they missed several good chances to extend it, but Magpies came into the game more after the break and Storey scored to give them a share of the points.

5 DEC – LEAGUE TWENTYTWO CUP – Pheasant to strong for Bohemians – George Rudd (pictured right) made it nine goals in two games with five as Wadsley Bridge Pheasant brushed aside New Bohemians to go through to the last eight of the League Twentytwo Cup. A fine chip and finish by Rudd gave Pheasant an early lead before bagging his second soon after. Adam Askwith made it three before Rudd completed his hat-trick. Jack Brownell grabbed Bohemians first just before half time, but Askwith added Pheasant’s fifth soon after the break. Jordan Stocks hit a thunderbolt for the sixth before Sam Brown netted the visitors second. Danny Reet got his first before Rudd hit his fourth and fifth. Reet made it ten before Zach burns hit Bohemians third. Askwith and Reet both completed their hat-tricks and Harry Holland made it thirteen before Brownell hit Bohemians fourth. Pheasant will now be at home to Joker Wickersley Youth in the quarter final.

5 DEC – CBC PREMIER – Chappell leaves Crookes without a prayer – Royal Earl went second in the CBC Premier as two Connor Chappell (pictured left) strikes helped them beat old rivals Crookes 5-0. A close first half saw Earl lead through a Theo Wilson header from a Chappell free kick. Earl doubled the lead at the start of the second half with  a good move from back to front leaving Steve Brammer to pull a great ball back for Man of the Match Chappell to smash home. Earl then took control and further goals from Steve Brammer, Chappell and Matt Morton sealing the win.

Liam Greenfield also hit two as Handsworth Everest Inn moved to within two points of the leaders with victory at Norton Oaks. A fairly even first half saw both sides create chances and Oaks hit the crossbar early on, but it was Everest that took the lead when Ollie Grady was fouled in the area and Ryan Goodinson scored the penalty. Everest started the second half better and doubled their lead when Goodinson crossed and the defender turned the ball into his own net under pressure from Tom Smith. Everest third came when Ollie Grady picked the ball up 25 yards out and his shot flew into the bottom corner. Everest 4th came when Goodinson crossed and Sam Marsden scored with a cheeky back heel, before a foul in the area meant Lewis Trevett was able to pull one back from the penalty spot. Greenfield came on as sub and scored his first a delightful chip over the keeper from 12 yards, before Michael Peake lobbed on the keeper for Oaks’ second. Greenfield then struck his second and should have completed his hat-trick when he fired wide with only the keeper to beat.

John Wall (pictured right) was another to score twice as Stannington Village came from behind to win 4-1 at Oughtibridge WM. Stannington started well with Wall’s glancing header shaving a post and Charlie Hobson putting the ball over when the goal was gaping, but Oughtibridge took over Stannington were thankful to keeper Ethan Mockford for some fine saves. Oughtibridge created enough chances to win any game, but all they had to show for it was a Matt Harrison penalty just before half-time. It was Stannington’s turn to get on top in the second half and they showed their hosts how to finish. They equalised when a ball over the top found Shaun Flynn who squared for Wall to tap in and they took the lead when Lee Johnstone squared it for Hobson to take one touch putting the ball into the roof of the net. The lead was extended when Wall cut inside from the left to bend a left foot shot into the top corner and the fina goal came when a corner found its way to the back post and Jack Haslam headed home.

5 DEC – DIVISION 1 – Southey shock Boynton and Jack’s alright for Intake – Boynton Sports missed the chance to go second in Division One when they were beaten by a fast reviving Southey Social. A Todd Guest goal gave Southey a half-time lead and they doubled it after the break with a Jarrod Lomas strike. Boynton had chances to get back into the game, but all they had to show for it was a Jake Gamban penalty five minutes from time.

Sheffield Sixs moved to within a point of second place with a 3-1 victory over promotion rivals Cotts. Sixers took the lead on 30 minutes when Harry Buxton latched onto Brad Howe's through ball to slot it away and on the hour mark Connor McMain headed home to double Sixs lead. Liam Davies scored their third from the edge of the area five minutes later and all Cotts got from the game was the goal of the game, a 39 yard left foot screamer by Alex Calton.

Jack Heald netted twice as Intake Old Boys twice came from behind to grab just their second win of the season with a 4-2 victory over Colley. Colley scored first against the run of play when Chris Belshaw saw him use his strength to hold off the defender and fire home, but Intake were level by half-time after Heald equalised with a penalty. Colley went in front a second time straight after the break when Belshaw beat the keeper to the ball to prod home, but a long throw wasn’t dealt with and Elliot Coles got a touch to head home. Intake took the lead when they were awarded a second penalty and Heald netted again, before Danny Meadows made it safe with their fourth.

5 DEC – DIVISION 2 – Beech treble as Lion roar, but Reds stay top – Dan Beech hit a hat-trick as Red Lion kept up their title challenge with a 7-0 victory over Renegade. Lion took charge almost straight away with two early goals and Renegade were never in it. Further goals came from a Sam Roden double, Jamie Jones and an own goal.

Mosborough Reds stayed top as a Dan Howson double helped them to come from a goal down to win 4-1 victory at local rivals Beighton Magpies. All the action came in the first half with Liam Milne giving Magpies a first minute lead, but it lasted just a minute when Howson tapped in his first. Four minutes later Alix Sorsby hit a 40 yard free kick into the top corner to put Reds ahead. Josh Smith set up Howson to tap in his second and right on the stroke of half-time Sam Fickling whipped in a free-kick for skipper Kak Hotchin to head home.

Another hat-trick came from Chapeltown RBL’s Denham Saxton (pictured left) in his side’s 6-2 victory over Sheaf House. Saxton opened the scoring after a Jacob Walkland cross, sliding under the oncoming goalkeeper and the same combination again saw Walkland pick out Saxton, who volleyed superbly from the edge of the area. Debutant Jed Phillips made it 3-0 after he was found in the area by Mitch Savage. Ricardo Guyo pulled one back for Sheaf, but it was soon 4-1 as Harley Wilson picked out Saxton to complete his hat trick with a composed finish. Ben Stringer hit the bar with a header, and then won a penalty which Morgan Cowell despatched for RBL’s fifth. Guyo netted his second for Sheaf, before Walkland completed a hat trick of assists by finding Adam Simpson in the box to guide the ball home first time.

Both Water Tower and Jubilee Rangers dropped points when they drew 2-2 with each other. Alfie Smith gave Jubilee a half-time lead following a corner, but Water Tower hit back after the break when man of the match Harry Groombridge volleyed home from the edge of the area. Jubilee retaliated by taking the lead a second time through Adam Pocock, but it was against the run of play and Groombridge netted his second to give Water Tower a deserved share of the points.

1 DEC – Fixtures & Referees for 12 and 19 December – Fixtures and Referees for 12 & 19 December are now shown in the Fixtures section of the website. They include Sunday Senior and Sunday Junior Cup ties on 12 December.

All home teams MUST make sure that their home pitch is available on all the dates shown. Please email Keith immediately if your pitch is not available on a date shown. All home clubs MUST also confirm the details with your referees and opponents for all dates shown as soon as they are shown. If you are having to kick-off at a time other than 11 am, you MUST make sure that both your referee, opponents and Keith are aware. The home clubs should later (the Tuesday before the game) ring the referee to make sure the referee has got all the details. If a referee says he cannot do a game listed for them, please notify Keith immediately.

Matches without referees must still go ahead and, if you have not been allocated a referee by the date of the game, the two clubs must agree on a stand-in 'referee' between them.  Although Keith will still be working to gain more referees, because we have a lower number of referees than in recent season, it is very likely that some games may not have an official referee allocated to them. If you find one yourself, will you let Keith know immediately please.

Any team that have opponents shown as "No game yet" should NOT assume that they will have no game on that date as we have often had to change fixtures at short notice as we try to get as many games played as possible.
