31 OCT – LEADING SCORER – Read all about it, Sam tops the charts – Division One FC Inter striker Sam Read (pictured right) is the early leader of the Leading Scorer chart, closely followed by CBC Premier Handsworth Everest Inn’s Sam Marsden. Next come Civil Sports’ marksman Jordan Turner and Sheffield South’s Harry Pollard. Pollard’s team mate Jack Hollis-Smith is just a goal behind along with Max Rhodes of Crookes, Stannington Village’s Jack Haslam and Eckington’s Joe Renshaw. 31 OCT – CBC PREMIER – Sam’s the man to see Everest climb – In the only CBC Premier game to beat the weather, a Sam Marsden (pictured left) double helped Handsworth Everest Inn to a 3-1 victory over Norton Oaks and climb up to second in the table. Everest had plenty of possession in the first half, but couldn’t break down a stubborn Norton defence. Marsden had their best chance, but dragged his shot wide.

Everest changed to a 4-3-3 for the second half and got their reward within two minutes when a long ball from Ryan Goodinson was expertly brought down by Marsden before he fired home. Marsden then grabbed a second after a scramble in the box, but Oaks hit back and reduced the arrears when Chris Pigott set Billy Ireland up to score his first goal since March 2018. Everest hit back almost immediately with Liam Greenfield crossing for Perry Jackson to curl his 20 yard shot into the top corner. It might have been more after that with Marsden missing two headers and the chance for his hat-trick, and Joe France had one ruled out for offside. Referee Steve Clarkson said the attitude of both teams was what you would want in every game and he would have given both teams 20 out of 10 for the way they both conducted themselves.

31 OCT – DIVISION 1 – Pollard to the four, but Inter widen the gap – The two Division One games played produced no fewer than 17 goals, with Harry Pollard (pictured right) hitting four of them as Sheffield South maintained their perfect away record with an 8-1 victory at Colley. It was just 2-0 at the break, but the visitors ran riot in the second half with further goals coming from Josh Ing, Ryan Phillips, Jack Hollis-Smith and Louis Marven. Colley’s goal came from Chris Belshaw, but it will be little consolation after suffering the second successive 8-1 home defeat.

Still top and now five points clear is FC Inter after a Sam Read double helped them beat Wadsley Jack Athletic 7-1. Read put Inter ahead and although they were pegged back by a terrific 40 yard Brad Worsfold strike, they were back in front at the break thanks to a Tom Ward strike. The second half was one-way traffic with Read adding his second along with Lewis Whitaker, Rob Sturman, Russ Westby and a first ever overhead kick goal for Liam Richards. There was also plenty of praise for young referee Daniel Laugharne.

31 OCT – DIVISION 2 – Saxton invades the Tower, but Shakey hold the Reds – In the two Division Two games beat the weather, Denham Saxton (pictured left) scored twice as Chapeltown RBL showed their promotion credentials by coming from behind to win 4-1 at Water Tower. Not surprisingly, Water Tower adapted to the wet conditions at the start of the game and deservedly took a half-time lead when Lewis Fretwell cut in from the left before firing past the keeper. Chapeltown turned the scores around soon after the break when Saxton met the ball at the back post, before quickly volleying a second after being set-up by Niall Smith. They added a third when Adam Todd was fouled 30 yards from goal and he quickly picked himself up to score his third goal in as many games. Chapeltown keeper Ben Palmer then had to be at his best with a one-handed save to keep Tower out, before the final nail in the home side’s coffin came with Harley Wilson picking out Smith to race through and find the bottom corner.

28 OCT – ROTHERHAM CHARITY CUP – Jack's the Lad to see Joker Wickersley into the Rotherham Charity Cup semi-finals – Joker Wickersley played the remaining Quarter final of the historic Rotherham Charity Cup competition, against The Mexborough and District Sunday League side, Queens Utd and the saying about football being a game of two halves was never more true. Queens came out a slightly stronger attacking side in the first period and went ahead in the 37th minute when Enzo Guamni, cut in from the left and his shot from the edge of the box, through the crowded box found the back of the net. Queens made several attempts on the Wickersley net during the half, but were thwarted by the Joker Wickersley defence and the in-form keeper Jack Pasley (pictured right). Joker Wickersley's best chance came from a Ryan Smyth header a hair's width wide later in the first half.

During the break a couple of changes to the side and formation of Joker Wickersley, saw the side emerge as a committed and focused side, creating good goal-scoring opportunities as the half progressed. After 76 minutes Joker Wickersley, drew level when Liam O’brien, latched onto a ball on the edge of the area and hit a low shot into the Queens net. With the wind in the Joker Wickersley sails, O'brien came close to winning the tie when he hit a similar shot only to see it rebound off the post. Queens had a last gasp attempt on the net when a shot was deflected by Shaun Edwards just over the bar.

Penalties ensued, with both sides taking 10 penalties and both sides having chances to seal the match. Joker Wickersley’s keeper Jack Pasley, saved five of them and it was left to Kallum Nix to take the twentieth penalty which he placed past the Queens keeper to win the tie 7-6 on penalties.

This is the first time in the history of the charity cup that all four semi-finalists are from four different South Yorkshire leagues. Joker Wickersley join, AFC Three feathers (Rotherham Sunday league), Dog Daisy, (Mexborough and District Sunday League) and Wombwell Main (County Senior League). The draw is to take place in November with the semis being played in February.

17 OCT – SUNDAY JUNIOR CUP – Only two go out as 15 go through – Fifteen Blades Super Draw League teams will be in the hat for the Sunday Junior Cup Round 3 draw after just two clubs went out in Round 2. The most emphatic victory was New Bohemians’ 14-0 at Cross Keys Wath with both James Hastings (pictured right) and Sam Smith scoring four along with doubles for Lewis Currie and Sam Brown, and one each for Will Butcher and Oliver Maltby.

The next biggest victories, both 7-0, came for Mosborough Reds at the Imperial’s Swallownest Juniors Development, and Jubilee Rangers at Thurcroft. Jubilee started the game on the front foot with Adam Pocock opening the scoring and Danny Vigrass made it two. Pocock’s second, Josh Reaney, and, on the stroke of half time, Deegan Atherton extended the lead to five at the break. The second half saw Jubilee dominate again with two penalties from Josh Jackson completing the 7-0 victory. Another to win big was Boynton Sports with Ethan Wilkinson scoring twice in the 6-0 victory over Doncaster’s Carcroft Village. Boynton’s others coming from Richie Atkins, Jake Gamban, Marc Peacock and an own goal.

Matt Ellis (pictured left) found the bottom corner to give Mosborough Reds an early lead at Swallownest and they doubled it before half-time when Josh Smith’s cross was tapped home by James Arrand. After the break the roles were reversed with Arrand setting Smith up and it was Smith’s corner that was headed home by Ellis to make it four. Three goals in the last seven minutes from Gareth Coddington, Daniel Howson and Jack Hotchin completed the scoring.

Jack Hawkes hit a hat-trick in Brinsworth Phoenix’s 5-0 victory over the Imperial’s Red Lion Grenoside. A Reegan Howarth corner allowed Daniel Commander to get his customary goal with a bullet header to open the scoring and Commander then turned provider for Hawkes to get his first. Howarth got his deserved goal with a classy left foot rifle and the fourth before half-time came from a Hawkes penalty. The second half saw the Lion keeper do his best to stop any further damage, but he couldn’t stop Hawkes completing his hat-trick with a towering header from a Commander cross.

Another hat-trick came Mikey Vella’s way as Renegade Football won 4-2 at Thurlstone. After missing a load of chances and hitting the bar twice Vella finally made the breakthrough with some clever footwork before slotting past the keeper. Totally against the run of play a couple of long balls from Thurlstone caught out the defenders on a slanted pitch and it was 2-1 to Thurlstone at half-time. Renegade dominated the second half, but couldn't find the breakthrough until the 80th minute when a through ball allowed Vella to round the keeper and score. Within moments of the kick off Renegade won the ball back and a great run down the wing and a ball across the goal allowed Vella to complete his hat-trick. Super sub and manager Tom Evans produced a great left footed finish to make the game safe. Referee John Burrows had an outstanding game.

Niall Smith (pictured right) scored one and claimed three assists as Chapeltown RBL won 5-1 at Rotherham’s Bradgate. RBL took the lead when Smith crossed for Denham Saxton to tap in at the back post and Smith then created the second by heading in to the path of Adam Todd who went past the goalkeeper and slid the ball home. RBL started the second half brightly and Harley Wilson’s long ball set man of the match Smith free to calmly find the bottom corner. Josh Savage’s cross was turned into his own net by a Bradgate defender before Smith claimed his third assist when he set Joe Moorhouse off to show great composure by chipping the goalkeeper from the edge of the box. Bradgate grabbed a late consolation. Action from the game is below:

Josh Ing scored twice and Tom Davis, Ryan Phillips and Alex Masterson one each as Sheffield South also beat another Rotherham side, RUSC85 Travellers 5-1. Sheffield Sixers beat an Imperial side, Moorview Rangers 2-1. After Harry Buxton’s first half goal had been cancelled out in the second half, they needed extra time before Luke Clarke hit Sixers winner. Beighton Magpies, beat Swallownest United 4-0. Lee Hackett opened the scoring with a glancing header from a free kick and Magpies doubled their lead with a classic well worked team goal finished off by Liam Milne. It was more of the same in the second half with Aaron Winfield heading a third from a corner, before Matt Dickinson completed the scoring.

Brinsworth Whitehill, Colley, Cotts, FC Inter and Wadsley Jack Athletic all went through after their opponents withdrew. The only two to go out was Southey Social after they withdrew and, despite Tyler Carter and Alli Maleta goals, Sheaf House went out after extra time to the Imperial’s Chapeltown.

17 OCT – CBC PREMIER – Sportsman hit Oaks for six to go 4 points clear – Sportsman had six different scorers as they won the ‘Norton’ derby against Oaks 6-1 to go 4 points clear at the top of the CBC Premier. A good start for Sportsman, Michael Gibbons broke through to score and Robbie Cupitt then ghosted in at the back post to score his first goal in 4 years. Chris Lewis then scored from 20 yards to make it three, before Oaks pulled one back when Lewis Trevett did a one two with Will Carlisle and curled it round the keeper from 30 yards. Oaks then pressed forward a lot more and missed 2 great chances, but Sportsman took control again and scored three before half time via Anthony Holmes, Brad Bowland and a unbelievable 30 yard strike from Sonny Wilson. At half time it would have been easy for Oaks to crumble, but they came out and showed really good character to make sure that was the last of the scoring in a game played in great spirits from both sides.

Both Joker Wickersley and Oughtibridge WM missed the chance to go second when they drew 1-1 with each other Joker Wickersley. Joker’s Nathan Taylor twice forced good saves from Bridge keeper Corey Hawksworth in a goalless first half, but soon after the break it was Jack Ridge that gave Oughtibridge the lead. Hawksworth was doing his best to keep his side in front, but the pressure eventually produced an equaliser when Adam Daughtrey’s free kick into the box bobbled about until Taylor pushed it home.

They are joined on 7 points by Crookes after two Joel Purkiss (pictured left) goals helped them come from two down to win at Civil Sports. Civil took the lead when keeper Spencer’s long ball over the top bounced over a defender and Tom Bamford latched onto it to score. A second came when a long throw was flicked on by a defender and Jordan Turner pounced to volley home. Crookes got back into it just before the break when a clearance to the edge of the box fell for Gavin O’Reilly to volley home.

Crookes equalised in the second half when Purkiss hit a free-kick into the top corner and they took the lead when a Purkiss shot was saved, but Max Rhodes was on hand to tap home the rebound. Civil responded to level when Tom Bamford’s shot was turned past the keeper by Gary Eades. The Crookes winner came from the penalty spot when a defender handled in the area and Purkiss sent the keeper the wrong way.

Royal Earl are only a point behind them as a Joe Pearson double helped them to a 7-2 victory at Handsworth Everest Inn. Despite Ryan Goodinson and Sam Marsden goals for the home side, Earl proved too strong as Sam Smith, Theo Wilson, Tom Roebuck, Reece Cahill and Steve Brammer hit their others.

Wadsley Bridge Pheasant grabbed their first win of the season with a 3-2 victory at AFC Dronfield. AFC lost at home 3-2 to WN Pheasant. After being 2 -0 after 4 minutes..

Two mistakes allowed Carlton Carty and Adam Askwith to give Pheasant a two goal lead inside four minutes, but Adam Beresford headed home from a Josh Millen corner to put Dronfield back in the game. Another error allowed Danny Reet to restore Pheasant’s two goal lead before half-time. After the break, Alex Pursehouse scored a second for Dronfield to set up an exciting finish, but Pheasant managed to hold on.

17 OCT – DIVISION 2 – The Lion begins to roar – Red Lion finally got their promotion bid underway after a Lewis Fisher double helped them to a comfortable 5-0 victory at Shakey. Dan Beech, Richard Stirrup and Jamie Jones netted Lions others.
