31 OCT – LEADING SCORER – Read all about it, Sam tops the charts – Division One FC Inter striker Sam Read (pictured right) is the early leader of the Leading Scorer chart, closely followed by CBC Premier Handsworth Everest Inn’s Sam Marsden. Next come Civil Sports’ marksman Jordan Turner and Sheffield South’s Harry Pollard. Pollard’s team mate Jack Hollis-Smith is just a goal behind along with Max Rhodes of Crookes, Stannington Village’s Jack Haslam and Eckington’s Joe Renshaw. The full list can be seen in the Results section.

31 OCT – CBC PREMIER – Sam’s the man to see Everest climb – In the only CBC Premier game to beat the weather, a Sam Marsden (pictured left) double helped Handsworth Everest Inn to a 3-1 victory over Norton Oaks and climb up to second in the table. Everest had plenty of possession in the first half, but couldn’t break down a stubborn Norton defence. Marsden had their best chance, but dragged his shot wide.

Everest changed to a 4-3-3 for the second half and got their reward within two minutes when a long ball from Ryan Goodinson was expertly brought down by Marsden before he fired home. Marsden then grabbed a second after a scramble in the box, but Oaks hit back and reduced the arrears when Chris Pigott set Billy Ireland up to score his first goal since March 2018. Everest hit back almost immediately with Liam Greenfield crossing for Perry Jackson to curl his 20 yard shot into the top corner. It might have been more after that with Marsden missing two headers and the chance for his hat-trick, and Joe France had one ruled out for offside. Referee Steve Clarkson said the attitude of both teams was what you would want in every game and he would have given both teams 20 out of 10 for the way they both conducted themselves.

31 OCT – DIVISION 1 – Pollard to the four, but Inter widen the gap – The two Division One games played produced no fewer than 17 goals, with Harry Pollard (pictured right) hitting four of them as Sheffield South maintained their perfect away record with an 8-1 victory at Colley. It was just 2-0 at the break, but the visitors ran riot in the second half with further goals coming from Josh Ing, Ryan Phillips, Jack Hollis-Smith and Louis Marven. Colley’s goal came from Chris Belshaw, but it will be little consolation after suffering the second successive 8-1 home defeat.

Still top and now five points clear is FC Inter after a Sam Read double helped them beat Wadsley Jack Athletic 7-1. Read put Inter ahead and although they were pegged back by a terrific 40 yard Brad Worsfold strike, they were back in front at the break thanks to a Tom Ward strike. The second half was one-way traffic with Read adding his second along with Lewis Whitaker, Rob Sturman, Russ Westby and a first ever overhead kick goal for Liam Richards. There was also plenty of praise for young referee Daniel Laugharne.

31 OCT – DIVISION 2 – Saxton invades the Tower, but Shakey hold the Reds – In the two Division Two games beat the weather, Denham Saxton (pictured left) scored twice as Chapeltown RBL showed their promotion credentials by coming from behind to win 4-1 at Water Tower. Not surprisingly, Water Tower adapted to the wet conditions at the start of the game and deservedly took a half-time lead when Lewis Fretwell cut in from the left before firing past the keeper. Chapeltown turned the scores around soon after the break when Saxton met the ball at the back post, before quickly volleying a second after being set-up by Niall Smith. They added a third when Adam Todd was fouled 30 yards from goal and he quickly picked himself up to score his third goal in as many games. Chapeltown keeper Ben Palmer then had to be at his best with a one-handed save to keep Tower out, before the final nail in the home side’s coffin came with Harley Wilson picking out Smith to race through and find the bottom corner.

Second place Mosborough Reds missed the chance to close up on the leaders after they were surprisingly held to a 1-1 draw at Shakey. After a goalless first half it was Reds that took the lead when Terence Ncube’s ball from the right was slotted home by Matt Ellis, but Shakey were more than playing their part in the game and grabbed a deserved equaliser through Liam Moorhouse.
31 OCT – LEAGUE TWENTYTWO CUP –
Phoenix and Bohemians will have to try again – Brinsworth Phoenix delayed League Twentytwo Cup tie against fellow Division One side New Bohemians was postponed a second time, so they will have to try again on a date to be arranged.

28 OCT – ROTHERHAM CHARITY CUP – Jack's the Lad to see Joker Wickersley into the Rotherham Charity Cup semi-finals – Joker Wickersley played the remaining Quarter final of the historic Rotherham Charity Cup competition, against The Mexborough and District Sunday League side, Queens Utd and the saying about football being a game of two halves was never more true. Queens came out a slightly stronger attacking side in the first period and went ahead in the 37th minute when Enzo Guamni, cut in from the left and his shot from the edge of the box, through the crowded box found the back of the net. Queens made several attempts on the Wickersley net during the half, but were thwarted by the Joker Wickersley defence and the in-form keeper Jack Pasley (pictured right). Joker Wickersley's best chance came from a Ryan Smyth header a hair's width wide later in the first half.

During the break a couple of changes to the side and formation of Joker Wickersley, saw the side emerge as a committed and focused side, creating good goal-scoring opportunities as the half progressed. After 76 minutes Joker Wickersley, drew level when Liam O’brien, latched onto a ball on the edge of the area and hit a low shot into the Queens net. With the wind in the Joker Wickersley sails, O'brien came close to winning the tie when he hit a similar shot only to see it rebound off the post. Queens had a last gasp attempt on the net when a shot was deflected by Shaun Edwards just over the bar.

Penalties ensued, with both sides taking 10 penalties and both sides having chances to seal the match. Joker Wickersley’s keeper Jack Pasley, saved five of them and it was left to Kallum Nix to take the twentieth penalty which he placed past the Queens keeper to win the tie 7-6 on penalties.

This is the first time in the history of the charity cup that all four semi-finalists are from four different South Yorkshire leagues. Joker Wickersley join, AFC Three feathers (Rotherham Sunday league), Dog Daisy, (Mexborough and District Sunday League) and Wombwell Main (County Senior League). The draw is to take place in November with the semis being played in February.

25 OCT – Fixtures & Referees for November – Fixtures and Referees for November are now shown in the Fixtures section of the website. They include games in the Sunday Senior Cup on 14 November and the Sunday Junior Cup on 24 November that involve Blades Super Draw League teams, but there could be changes to those cup ties in due course.

All home teams MUST make sure that their home pitch is available on all the dates shown. Please email Keith immediately if your pitch is not available on a date shown. All home clubs MUST also confirm the details with your referees and opponents for all dates shown as soon as they are shown. If you are having to kick-off at a time other than 11 am, you MUST make sure that both your referee, opponents and Keith are aware.

Any team that have opponents shown as "No game yet" should NOT assume that they will have no game on that date as we have often had to change fixtures at short notice as we try to get as many games played as possible.

The home clubs should later (the Tuesday before the game) ring the referee to make sure the referee has got all the details.

If a referee says he cannot do a game listed for them, please notify Keith immediately.

Matches without referees must still go ahead and, if you have not been allocated a referee by the date of the game, the two clubs must agree on a stand-in 'referee' between them.  Although Keith will still be working to gain more referees, because we have a lower number of referees than in recent season, it is very likely that some games may not have an official referee allocated to them. If you find one yourself, will you let Keith know immediately please.

24 OCT – CBC PREMIER – Dixon’s electric for Joker and Porter lifts Dronfield – Parirs Dixon (pictured right) scored two and helped make two as Joker Wickersley won 5-2 at Crookes to go second in the CBC Premier table. Joker made a quick start when a Josh Hobson curler from the edge of the box hit the Crookes post and Hobson was denied again a few minutes later when a stretched Crooks keeper kept a low shot out, but the keeper could do nothing when Dixon latched onto a through ball before skipping around him to open the scoring

A Richard Patterson through ball allowed the ubiquitous Dixon to score his second in the space of five minutes, but Crookes fought back well and were denied a certain goal when Joker keeper Jack Pasley, tipped a low shot round his post at full stretch. Pasley was at fault though when he later failed to clear a Crookes long throw and Joel Purkiss got the final touch to pull one back for Crookes. Joker restored their two goal lead before half time when Patterson combined with Dixon to set Alex Hardwick for a close range finish.

Crookes came out strong after the restart and quickly reduced the arrears with Purkiss’s second of the game, but it didn’t take long for Joker to take control again and a Kallum Nix Corner was headed home by Nathan Taylor in a crowded six yard box. Josh Hobson, added the fifth from just inside the box after Dixon and Adam Daughtrey combined to set him up.

Still top though is Norton Sportsman after two James Archer (pictured left) goals helped them to a comfortable 6-0 win at Oughtibridge WM. A tight first half saw Sonny Wilson nodded in a Brad Bowland knock back to open the scoring and Chris Winters nodded a second just before the break. Archer’s double both came from the dangerous corners from Wilson to put the game out of sight early in the second half, before a Bowland header from a Montelle Kamara cross and a Kamara free kick completed the scoring. Norton wanted to keep a clean sheet and did so thanks to a Joe Taylor penalty save late on.

Royal Earl climbed to third after a man of the match performance from Harry ‘The Tash’ Bamforth and a single Theo Wilson (pictured right) header from a corner gave them a 1-0 victory over title rivals Stannington Village. Stannington were always in the game and Charlie Hobson hit the bar with a rasping 20 yard strike in the first half. They pushed hard and Jon Wall was thwarted by a great save in the last ten minutes, but Earl managed to soak up the pressure and see the game out.

Veteran striker Kieron Gallagher (pictured left) rolled back the years to score twice as Handsworth Everest Inn collected their first away win at Wadsley Bridge Pheasant. WB Pheasant FC 2 v 3 Handsworth Everest Inn. Gallagher’s first minute goal gave Handsworth a half time and although Pheasant had plenty of ball after the break they created little and Gallagher made them pay with a second on the break. Danny Reet pulled a goal back for Pheasant, but Jay Evison added a third for Handsworth, making Jordan Stocks’ late goal for Pheasant just a consolation.

Sam Porter (pictured right) hit a stunning hat-trick as AFC Dronfield coasted to a first win of the season, 6-0 at Norton Oaks. Only a Luke Watson goal separated the sides at the break, but there was no stopping Dronfield in the second half with Porter’s treble, a tap in for Tim Pitt and a penalty from Joe Taylor after Watson had been brought down in the area completing that first win.

24 OCT – DIVISION 1 – Gardiner treble lifts Eckington and Jake pegs back South in a thriller – Tom Gardiner hit a hat-trick as Eckington cult the lead at the top of Division One to just two points with a 6-2 victory at Wadsley Jack Athletic. Both teams created early chances, but it was Eckington that went ahead when a poor pass out by the keeper allowed Harry Bell through to score. It soon became two when a Tom Gardiner free kick from 30 yards flew in, but Wadsley got themselves back into the game before half-time when a free kick rebounded back to the penalty spot and Reece James – do Chelsea and England know about this ?? – turned the rebound home.

Eckington started the second half on the front foot and regained their two goal lead when a Tom Onions long throw was flicked home by Gardiner, but his third was more stylish when he fired another free kick into the top corner from 25 yards. Ali Haydock curled Eckington’s fifth into the top corner, but Wadsley got a goal back when Mitch Simnett bundled home. Eckington had the final word though, with Joe Renshaw firing into the top corner.

Close behind them is Boynton Sports after Jake Gamban’s hat-trick saw them outscore Sheffield South 6-5 in the game of the day. The most unlucky man was South’s Jack Hollis-Smith as he scored four, but finished on the losing side!! The game started as it ended - fast and frenetic. South started well and after hitting the bar, they scored with a ball straight through the middle and Hollis-Smith turned before lobbing the keeper. Boynton hit back and started to settle into the game and Gamban (pictured left) put a great free kick into the top corner. Man of the match Lee Jordan quickly put Boynton ahead, but almost straight from the kick off South equalised through a long ball again not dealt with by the defence, before bouncing over the keeper and Hollis-Smith slotted into an open net.

Another long ball, this time from Boynton keeper Adam Martin, saw Lee Jordan race onto it to put Boynton back in front, before a Hollis-Smith penalty and freak goal when keeper Tom Charlesworth’s clearance eluded everyone to put South ahead. Gamban then took on three players before slotting home to make it 4-4 at half time. Boynton started the second half strongly and two quick fire goals through Marc Peacock and Gamban made it 6-4, but South fought back again and won another penalty for Hollis-Smith to make it a nervous finish for Boynton. It was a game well refereed by Daniel Laugharne.

Sheffield Sixers maintained their good form with a first home win of the season, 2-1 over Brinsworth Phoenix. A very hard fought battle saw Phoenix lead at half time after Jake Slaughter met a Reegan Howarth cross. Their cause was then hampered as striker John Mellor had to take over between the sticks and Sixers equalised when Liam Davies headed in from a corner. Sixers then won it when Jack Battle scored a peach of free kick.

A Chris Belshaw (pictured right) double helped Colley maintain their perfect away record with a 2-0 win at New Bohemians. Colley started brightly and looked on top for large spells of the half, but it took them until the last minute of the first half for Belshaw to fire home from a tight angle to give them the lead. Bohemians were reduced to ten men due to injuries and the second half saw them struggle until near the end when their best chance fell to Will Roberts, but he scuffed his shot wide They pushed for the equailiser, but that left them vulnerable and Colley broke for Belshaw to knock in his second to wrap the points up for Colley

24 OCT – DIVISION 2 – The Lion roars again – Red Lion climbed to third in Division Two with a second consecutive victory, this time 2-1 over fellow newcomers Water Tower. A Sam Roden penalty in the first half and a Lewis Fisher strike in the second put Lion in control, but a Charlie Wheatley strike for Tower made it a nervous finish for the home side.

17 OCT – SUNDAY JUNIOR CUP – Only two go out as 15 go through – Fifteen Blades Super Draw League teams will be in the hat for the Sunday Junior Cup Round 3 draw after just two clubs went out in Round 2. The most emphatic victory was New Bohemians’ 14-0 at Cross Keys Wath with both James Hastings (pictured right) and Sam Smith scoring four along with doubles for Lewis Currie and Sam Brown, and one each for Will Butcher and Oliver Maltby.

The next biggest victories, both 7-0, came for Mosborough Reds at the Imperial’s Swallownest Juniors Development, and Jubilee Rangers at Thurcroft. Jubilee started the game on the front foot with Adam Pocock opening the scoring and Danny Vigrass made it two. Pocock’s second, Josh Reaney, and, on the stroke of half time, Deegan Atherton extended the lead to five at the break. The second half saw Jubilee dominate again with two penalties from Josh Jackson completing the 7-0 victory. Another to win big was Boynton Sports with Ethan Wilkinson scoring twice in the 6-0 victory over Doncaster’s Carcroft Village. Boynton’s others coming from Richie Atkins, Jake Gamban, Marc Peacock and an own goal.

Matt Ellis (pictured left) found the bottom corner to give Mosborough Reds an early lead at Swallownest and they doubled it before half-time when Josh Smith’s cross was tapped home by James Arrand. After the break the roles were reversed with Arrand setting Smith up and it was Smith’s corner that was headed home by Ellis to make it four. Three goals in the last seven minutes from Gareth Coddington, Daniel Howson and Jack Hotchin completed the scoring.

Jack Hawkes hit a hat-trick in Brinsworth Phoenix’s 5-0 victory over the Imperial’s Red Lion Grenoside. A Reegan Howarth corner allowed Daniel Commander to get his customary goal with a bullet header to open the scoring and Commander then turned provider for Hawkes to get his first. Howarth got his deserved goal with a classy left foot rifle and the fourth before half-time came from a Hawkes penalty. The second half saw the Lion keeper do his best to stop any further damage, but he couldn’t stop Hawkes completing his hat-trick with a towering header from a Commander cross.

Another hat-trick came Mikey Vella’s way as Renegade Football won 4-2 at Thurlstone. After missing a load of chances and hitting the bar twice Vella finally made the breakthrough with some clever footwork before slotting past the keeper. Totally against the run of play a couple of long balls from Thurlstone caught out the defenders on a slanted pitch and it was 2-1 to Thurlstone at half-time. Renegade dominated the second half, but couldn't find the breakthrough until the 80th minute when a through ball allowed Vella to round the keeper and score. Within moments of the kick off Renegade won the ball back and a great run down the wing and a ball across the goal allowed Vella to complete his hat-trick. Super sub and manager Tom Evans produced a great left footed finish to make the game safe. Referee John Burrows had an outstanding game.

Niall Smith (pictured right) scored one and claimed three assists as Chapeltown RBL won 5-1 at Rotherham’s Bradgate. RBL took the lead when Smith crossed for Denham Saxton to tap in at the back post and Smith then created the second by heading in to the path of Adam Todd who went past the goalkeeper and slid the ball home. RBL started the second half brightly and Harley Wilson’s long ball set man of the match Smith free to calmly find the bottom corner. Josh Savage’s cross was turned into his own net by a Bradgate defender before Smith claimed his third assist when he set Joe Moorhouse off to show great composure by chipping the goalkeeper from the edge of the box. Bradgate grabbed a late consolation. Action from the game is below:

Josh Ing scored twice and Tom Davis, Ryan Phillips and Alex Masterson one each as Sheffield South also beat another Rotherham side, RUSC85 Travellers 5-1. Sheffield Sixers beat an Imperial side, Moorview Rangers 2-1. After Harry Buxton’s first half goal had been cancelled out in the second half, they needed extra time before Luke Clarke hit Sixers winner. Beighton Magpies, beat Swallownest United 4-0. Lee Hackett opened the scoring with a glancing header from a free kick and Magpies doubled their lead with a classic well worked team goal finished off by Liam Milne. It was more of the same in the second half with Aaron Winfield heading a third from a corner, before Matt Dickinson completed the scoring.

Brinsworth Whitehill, Colley, Cotts, FC Inter and Wadsley Jack Athletic all went through after their opponents withdrew. The only two to go out was Southey Social after they withdrew and, despite Tyler Carter and Alli Maleta goals, Sheaf House went out after extra time to the Imperial’s Chapeltown.

17 OCT – CBC PREMIER – Sportsman hit Oaks for six to go 4 points clear – Sportsman had six different scorers as they won the ‘Norton’ derby against Oaks 6-1 to go 4 points clear at the top of the CBC Premier. A good start for Sportsman, Michael Gibbons broke through to score and Robbie Cupitt then ghosted in at the back post to score his first goal in 4 years. Chris Lewis then scored from 20 yards to make it three, before Oaks pulled one back when Lewis Trevett did a one two with Will Carlisle and curled it round the keeper from 30 yards. Oaks then pressed forward a lot more and missed 2 great chances, but Sportsman took control again and scored three before half time via Anthony Holmes, Brad Bowland and a unbelievable 30 yard strike from Sonny Wilson. At half time it would have been easy for Oaks to crumble, but they came out and showed really good character to make sure that was the last of the scoring in a game played in great spirits from both sides.

Both Joker Wickersley and Oughtibridge WM missed the chance to go second when they drew 1-1 with each other Joker Wickersley. Joker’s Nathan Taylor twice forced good saves from Bridge keeper Corey Hawksworth in a goalless first half, but soon after the break it was Jack Ridge that gave Oughtibridge the lead. Hawksworth was doing his best to keep his side in front, but the pressure eventually produced an equaliser when Adam Daughtrey’s free kick into the box bobbled about until Taylor pushed it home.

They are joined on 7 points by Crookes after two Joel Purkiss (pictured left) goals helped them come from two down to win at Civil Sports. Civil took the lead when keeper Spencer’s long ball over the top bounced over a defender and Tom Bamford latched onto it to score. A second came when a long throw was flicked on by a defender and Jordan Turner pounced to volley home. Crookes got back into it just before the break when a clearance to the edge of the box fell for Gavin O’Reilly to volley home.

Crookes equalised in the second half when Purkiss hit a free-kick into the top corner and they took the lead when a Purkiss shot was saved, but Max Rhodes was on hand to tap home the rebound. Civil responded to level when Tom Bamford’s shot was turned past the keeper by Gary Eades. The Crookes winner came from the penalty spot when a defender handled in the area and Purkiss sent the keeper the wrong way.

Royal Earl are only a point behind them as a Joe Pearson double helped them to a 7-2 victory at Handsworth Everest Inn. Despite Ryan Goodinson and Sam Marsden goals for the home side, Earl proved too strong as Sam Smith, Theo Wilson, Tom Roebuck, Reece Cahill and Steve Brammer hit their others.

Wadsley Bridge Pheasant grabbed their first win of the season with a 3-2 victory at AFC Dronfield. AFC lost at home 3-2 to WN Pheasant. After being 2 -0 after 4 minutes..

Two mistakes allowed Carlton Carty and Adam Askwith to give Pheasant a two goal lead inside four minutes, but Adam Beresford headed home from a Josh Millen corner to put Dronfield back in the game. Another error allowed Danny Reet to restore Pheasant’s two goal lead before half-time. After the break, Alex Pursehouse scored a second for Dronfield to set up an exciting finish, but Pheasant managed to hold on.

17 OCT – DIVISION 2 – The Lion begins to roar – Red Lion finally got their promotion bid underway after a Lewis Fisher double helped them to a comfortable 5-0 victory at Shakey. Dan Beech, Richard Stirrup and Jamie Jones netted Lions others.

10 OCT – SUNDAY SENIOR CUP – Revenge is sweet for Stannington, but Joker go out – Shaun Flynn (pictured right) set Stannington Village on their way to gain revenge for the previous weekend’s League Cup defeat at Civil Sports by knocking Civil out of the Sunday Senior Cup 3-1. Civil took a half-time lead when Jordan Turner smashed one straight through the keeper into the net. Stannington equalised when Jon Wall found Shaun Flynn who twisted and turned before chipping the keeper into the far corner. Lee Johnstone fired in from 20 yards off underside of the bar to put Stannington ahead the victory was completed midway through second half when Jack Haslam was bought down in the area and Charlie Hobson scored the resulting penalty.

The other all-Blades Super Draw League tie saw Oughtibridge WM squeeze past Red Lion 2-1. Oughtibridge took a first half lead with an own goal and they doubled it after the break when Matt Harrison controlled the ball on the half way line and lobbed the keeper. Lion pulled one back when Liam Simpson hit a rocket into the top corner, but they couldn’t force an equaliser.

Pete Smith and Andy Parkin both scored twice as Crookes went through 4-3 at home to AFC Trades. Parkin gave Crookes the lead only for Trades to level before the break. Trades then took the lead, but Crookes drew level with Smith’s first and Smith struck again to put Crookes back in front. Parkin extended their lead before Trades scored their third, but Crookes held on to go through.

Man of the match Sam Smith hit a hat-trick as Royal Earl progressed with a comfortable 6-2 victory at Woodfield Squash Black. Woodfield squash black 2 Royal Earl 6. Tough game on a tough pitch. Reece Cahill, Joe Pearson and Theo Wilson netted Earl’s others.

Adam Asquith (pictured left) also hit three in Wadsley Bridge Pheasant’s 10-3 win at Longley Ravens. Ravens started brightly and missed two great chances to take lead, but Joe Slater's neat finish and a Harry Holland strike drive gave Pheasant a two goal lead. Ravens pulled one back, but Asquith’s first made it 3-1 at the break. Carlton Carty added Pheasant’s fourth and Asquith netted his second after Ravens had pulled another back. Ravens struck again, but Kane Doughty hit Pheasant’s sixth before Asquith completed his hat-trick. Holland netted his second before Danny Reet and George Rudd strikes completed the scoring.

Aaron Moxam scored twice as Handsworth Everest Inn came from behind to win their local derby 3-1 at Handsworth Inn. The hosts took an early lead, but Everest drew level when Perry Jackson was fouled in the box and he picked himself up to send the keeper the wrong way from the resulting penalty. Everest took a half-time lead when Sam Marsden crossed for Moxam to side-foot home. After the break Everest continued to dominate and David Haggerty hit the crossbar before Moxam scored from close range to make the tie safe.

The day’s big shock though saw Joker Wickersley Youth’s three time grip on the trophy end as they were beaten at Brinsworth DC The hosts took a half-time lead and extended it twice before Ben Thornton netted Joker’s consolation.

AFC Dronfield also went out 5-3 at home to Dog Daisy United. Despite a Tim Pitt goal Dronfield were 3-1 down at the break, but Dronfield hit back with a 35 yarder from Jim Cottingham and levelled through Luke Wilson. Dronfield almost took the lead when they hit the bar, but Dog Daisy were then awarded a penalty before they sealed victory with a long range strike.

10 OCT – DIVISION 1 – Read treble helps Inter go clear at the top – A Sam Read (pictured right) treble helped FC Inter to victory at Wadsley Jack Athletic to go five points clear at the top of Division One and give manager Mark Cooper the perfect 60th birthday present. Rob Sturman and Adam Justice hit Inter’s others making Ross Lamkin’s double for Wadsley just consolations

Dan Commander (pictured left) struck twice as Brinsworth Phoenix moved up to third with a 4-3 victory at promotion rivals Cotts. After Callum Shaw had given Cotts the lead, Commander levelled with a spectacular overhead kick. Commander then put Phoenix ahead with a shot that hit both posts before crossing the line, but Shaw netted two more to give Cotts the lead. Phoenix levelled again when skipper Brad Rhodes went on a mazy run before lobbing the keeper from a tight angle and their winner came from their goal machine Jack Hawkes when he received the ball from Joe Statham to beat two defenders before slotting it past the keeper

Sheffield Sixers moved up to fifth with a 6-1 victory at Southey Social. Danny Barnsley gave them an early lead only for it to be cancelled out by an own goal. Liam Davies volleyed Sixers back in front and he extended their lead before half-time with a penalty. Connor McMain added their fourth before Brad Nicholson curled home a beauty from the edge of the box. The goal of the game was that last one though when Nicholson got his second from just inside the opposition half with a volley over the keeper to cap a great debut.

10 OCT – DIVISION 2 – Cowell lifts legion to stop the Reds – Mosborough Reds missed the chance to go top of Division Two when they were beaten 3-1 at home by a Chapeltown RBL helped by two goals from Morgan Cowell (pictured right). Chapeltown were quick out of the blocks and took the lead when Niall Smith crossed for Joe Moorhouse to nod across for Cowell to fire home. Legion were two up after just five minutes when Moorhouse beat his marker and pulled back to Adam Todd on the edge of the box and he found the top corner with a first time finish.

Mosborough reduced the arrears when Oliver Tupling found James Arrand to produce a sharp finish in the bottom corner, but RBL upped the pace again with Ash Gray and Harley Wilson getting on the ball in midfield. They restored their two goal lead when Jacob Walkland found Todd in space and although his shot was parried, it was poked home by Cowell for his second before half time. The second half was a competitive half with defences on top, in a game well refereed by Ross Steele.

Jacob Rickards also scored twice as Water Tower won at Renegade, and Shakey and Beighton Magpies fought out a thrilling draw. Tower started fast on a tough pitch and went ahead when Olly Beaumont latched onto a through ball from full back Jack Charlesworth before lobbing the keeper. Renegade levelled through Christian Dunning’s bullet header from a corner, but Tower went back in front before half-time when Rickards linked up well with Beaumount before firing past the keeper. After the break Rickards doubled his tally when he poked home a Sam Reed cross. Sub Sam Mumford first touch was to smash a volley past the keeper, making Mikey Vella’s goal for Renegade just a consolation.

Shakey and Beighton Magpies, drew 2-2 in an excellent entertaining game Shakey took the lead from a Liam Moorhouse corner that somehow found its way into the Magpies net, but Magpies responded with a well worked team goal finished off by Liam Milne. More of the same came in the second half with Shakey once again taking the lead with a Steve Dickinson strike, but Magpies grabbed a deserved share of the points when Dale Featherstone chested the ball down before ghosting past two defenders to put it in the bottom corner.

6 OCT – LEAGUE TWENTYTWO CUP – 3rd Round Draw – The draw for Round 3 of the Twentytwo League Cup was made by the Sporting Memories group at the Beighton Lifestyle Centre today and it saw two all-CBC Premier ties come out of the hat, with Crookes playing host to Civil Sports and Oughtibridge WM host to Handsworth Everest Inn. At least one Division Two side is certain to make the quarter finals as Brinsworth Whitehill play hist to Jubilee Rangers, but three other Division Two sides all face CBC Premier opponents as Chapeltown RBL host Joker Wickersley, Red Lion host Norton Sportsman and Water Tower visit Royal Earl. Another team outside the CBC Premier will come from Division Two Renegade’s visit to Division One Sheffield Sixers. The winners of the delayed all-Division One tie between Brinsworth Phoenix and New Bohemians will travel to CBC Premier Wadsley Bridge Pheasant. All games to be played on 7 November. The full draw as it happened is below:

Chapeltown RBL v Joker Wickersley Youth; Crookes FC v Civil Sports; Sheffield Sixers v Renegade; WB Pheasant v Brins Phoenix or New Bohemians; Oughtibridge WM v Handsworth Everest Inn; Red Lion v Norton Sportsman; Royal Earl v Water Tower; Brinsworth Whitehill v Jubilee Rangers

3 OCT – LEAGUE TWENTYTWO CUP – Jacobs hits a cracker for Renegade as 6 Division 2 sides go through – Matt Jacobs (pictured right) hit the winner as Division 2 Renegade beat CBC Premier Norton Oaks 2-1 on a day when 5 other Division 2 sides went through to the last 16. An edgy first half saw both teams barely giving anything away and it remained goalless at the break, but Renegade started strongly in the second half and got the breakthrough when a long diagonal found Tom Burns at the back post and although the keeper pulled off a brilliant save for the first header Burns managed to tap in the rebound. Oaks soon replied though when Kyle Grantham battled his way through from the right into the penalty area before laying it back to Matt Lennox who turned quickly and slid the ball into the corner of the net with the aid of a deflection. Renegade bounced straight back though when a Lewis Hanson free kick was parried out by the keeper only for Jacobs to push home the rebound.

Joe McGuiness (pictured left) netted twice and had two assists as Division 2 leaders Brinsworth Whitehill proved much too powerful for Division 1 Intake Old Boys, winning 6-1. Brinsworth started really well and took the lead when Joe McGuinness headed home from a Matt Claxton corner. Matt Claxton got his 2nd assist from another corner when he set up his younger brother Jonny Claxton to head home. Cory Goodwin, McGuinness and Drew Houghton all missed good chances before Goodwin finally hit Whitehill’s third. The second half was much of the same, as McGuiness set up Sam Sweeney for Whitehill’s fourth. McGuiness was then brought down in the area, allowing Ross Johnson to score from the spot, before McGuiness dapped his man-of-the-match performance with his second and Whitehill’s sixth. Helped by two Joe Moorhouse (pictured right) strikes, Division 2 Chapeltown RBL came from two down to beat Division 1 Eckington 3-2. Eckington started bright and took an early lead when Harry Bell broke through on goal to bundle home at the second attempt and they soon doubled their lead when Tom Gardiner hit a free kick from 45 yards flew into the top corner. Chapeltown got back into it before half-time when a corner allowed Dave Millen to nod down for Moorhouse to slam home his first. Chapeltown levelled when Morgan Cowell slid in Moorhouse for his second, before Millen played a ball over the top for Curtis Dennison to race onto and complete the turn-round.

Two Harry Groombridge (pictured left) strikes helped Division 2 Water Tower also come from two down to beat Division 1 Boynton Sports by the same score. Richie Atkins headed the opener from an Ethan Wilkinson cross and Boynton’s lead was doubled soon after when Curtis Priday won a penalty, which Jake Gamban converted. Water Tower immediately hit back with Jacob Richards sending Cameron Riley through to score. That gave Water Tower all the encouragement they needed and the second half was one way traffic. A penalty was awarded for a foul from a corner and Groombridge made no mistake to equalise. Only the heroics of Boynton keeper Simon Marsden was keeping his side level, but even he could do nothing to prevent Groombridge hitting his second and the winner when he got on the end of a long ball.

Another tight game saw a single Josh Jackson strike give Division 2 Jubilee Rangers a 1-0 victory over Division 1 Wadsley Jack Athletic. The other Division 2 side through is Red Lion after their extra time 5-3 victory over fellow Division 2 side Sheaf House. Lewis Fisher and Daniel Beech goals gave Lion a half-time lead and a further Sam Midgley goal in the second half wasn’t enough as Sheaf hit back to force extra time with goals from Nile Ions, Henry Bradshaw and Ricardo Guyo. Sheaf had beaten them the week before, but this time it was Lion’s turn to win with extra time goals from Sam Roden and Max Howard.

The tie of the round, the all-CBC Premier affair between Civil Sports and Stannington Village didn’t disappoint and a Jordan Turner (pictured right) treble helped Civil come out on top 5-4. Civil got off to a great start with Turner hitting one on the turn which looped over the keeper and he soon had his second when he met ball over the top and hit first time into the bottom corner. A third came when a shot was blocked and Dylan Fletcher volleyed the redound into the far corner. It then started to go wrong for the home side as Wes Bamford was red carded for a foul when he was the last defender and Stannington got back into the game just before the break with a Jack Holmes strike.

The second half saw a good cross from Harrison Case finished off by Harley Scholey and Stannington levelled when a neat cut back from Jon Wall allowed Lee Johnstone to score in-off the post. Civil manager Gary Eades decided to bring himself on and he quickly made his mark when a cross to the far post allowed Brandon Whitfield to head the ball into the 6 yard box for Eades to touch it past the keeper. Stannington levelled again when Ben Cook bravely headed home, but when Turner was adjudged to have been brought down in the area, he dusted himself down to smash home the penalty to complete his hat-trick and win it for Civil.

The other all-CBC Premier game saw goals from Harry Holland and Adam Asquith give Wadsley Bridge Pheasant a 2-0 victory AFC Dronfield. CBC Premier Oughtibridge WM were pushed all the way before winning 3-2 at Division 1 Colley. After a goalless first half, goalkeeper/stand in striker Paul Cadman (pictured left) got on the end of a cross to bundle the ball in to give Oughtibridge the lead and they doubled it when Simon Duckworth was quick to follow up after the Colley keeper had saved the first effort. Colley, having to field manager Neill Whitworth in goal aged 50 and his assistant Gary Dickinson aged 52 on the bench, showed real spirit and two Chris Belshaw goals levelled the scores, but the victory went Oughtibridge’s way when Charlie Tunnard hit an unstoppable shot from 30 yards.

Another CBC Premier side to be pushed hard was Norton Sportsman and they needed extra time before beating Division 1 Sheffield South 4-2. Chris Lewis knocked home a Luke Francis knockdown to put Sportsman ahead and although a Harry Pollard strike brought South level, Sportsman led at the break after Francis prodded home an Antony Holmes cross. South showed what a good side they are after the break and although it was an own goal it was a deserved equaliser to take the game into extra time. The first 15 minutes saw chances come and go for both teams, but Sportsman finally got their noses back in front when Alfie Dodsworth stabbed home from Will Warhurst’s cross. Skipper Chris Lewis then made it safe when he scored at the second attempt.

Handsworth Everest Inn came through 3-1 in a hard fought local derby with Cotts. Everest had a half-time lead thanks to Sam Marsden firing into the far corner from an acute angle, but Cotts ace striker Michael Blythen levelled after the break. Ben Shackshaft and Ryan Goodinson both hit the woodwork for Everest and Ollie Grady went close before Mike Golland crossed for Goodinson to head Everest back in front. A minute later the tie was settled when Grady sent Chad Gibson through to beat the keeper. They should have had a fourth, but Liam Greenfield saw his penalty well saved by the Cotts keeper. Everest dedicated the win to their Number 1 Supporter, Richard Poole who sadly passed away 3 years ago this week.

There was no drama at Crookes as Pete Smith, Tom Staniland, Joe Jerrison and Liam Cartledge goals gave them a comfortable 4-0 win at home to Southey Social. Royal Earl also won 4-0 at FC Inter with two each for Matt Morton and Joe Pearson. Despite a Jak Hotchin header cancelling out Alex Hardwick’s early goal, a strong second half saw Joker Wickersley Youth beat Mosborough Reds 5-1. Second half goals for Brad Morton, Adam Daughtrey, Matt Godley and Hardwick’s second saw Joker comfortably home.

Division 1 Sheffield Sixers needed a late Danny Barnsley penalty to squeeze past Division 2 Beighton Magpies 2-1. Harry Buxton’s through ball allowed Connor Lomax to give Sixers an early lead, but Beighton forced them onto the back foot after that and they eventually scored a deserved equaliser when Liam Milne finished off a good team move. Sixers re-grouped and with time running out Luke Clare was brought down in the area and Danny Barnsley stepped up to win it from the penalty spot. The all-Division 1 tie between Brinsworth Phoenix and New Bohemians was postponed and they will have to try again later in the month.
